See, the rush she puts in during the chorus provides a leaning feel. Almost as if you're walking, dancing, and spinning at the same time. You feel that sudden fall forward, but you use it to build something. Whether the push forward is good or bad, you pushed in some extent. To me, that provides a more natural feel than keeping time within the measure. When you do that, it becomes too damn mechanical, taking out the element of human error, which makes this piece wonderful in a way.
Thanks for the feedback! I personally think playing it at the speed of the original song is too slow on piano, it just becomes a bit monotonous. Most of my covers are not identical to the speed of the original song, because I think singing something and playing it with no words is totally different. The lack of words allows you to interpret it in a different way, and to pull it around more ^^ Think of this as a cover, not a copy. However, I agree that the chorus was rushed a little too much in comparison to the verses :D
I was using the tempo freely in the sense that the tempo of the bar was at a certain BPM compared the overall tempo of the entire piece. She didn't keep a steady beat in the bar, which results in a faster tempo within the bar. I wasn't adhering to tempo being exactly what it is defined as.
You play this very nicely. One of the best tong hua recordings i've heard on youtube. You're not playing the F# version that you linked to though. Do you have the sheet music for the version you're playing?
