  • This new implement will give us a big bang for our buck, and this is my first time using it. It took a while to understand this. But the horsepower rating has nothing to do about the power or torque of the tractor. But everything about the size of the tractor. So, the reason it did not dig deeper, is because it’s made for a smaller sub-compact, tractor which would be lower to the ground. Nonetheless, for what I need it for, it will work fine.

It's not deep enough, even when lowered all the way. After buying it, I later saw in the specs that it's made for 30HP tractors (or less). I have a 47hp. In other words, since my tires are much larger than the tires on a 30HP, it was not low or deep enough (too high), even on the lowest setting. I need a welder to extend the shaft. Then it will do much better.

@@ForensicPI I noticed that the shaft was short on this one. I actually have three of these (two were inherited), one of which I bought. The exception is that I bought the sub-soiler with the longer shaft and a separate spade blade to put on it. That thing will dig some ditches. I put in "cross ditches" where the water runs just to slow it down, but also runoff ditches that carries the water completely off the field. I found that I can run it in hard ground and cut a ditch about 4 inches deep and then go back over it to cut out another three or four inches. It works great. In my field where there is softer dirt I can drop it while moving and it will sink down 7 or 8 inches and throw that dirt up and out. I personally like the sub-soiler better for water management, but for ditches this middle plow works great.
