@ KeyofGeebz,Twilight of the Thunder God was my introduction to Amon Amarth 12 yrs ago, still a favorite. Amon Amarth is named after Mount Doom from Lord of the Rings. The whole discography is worth your time. Thanks for your awesome dissections of many genres!

Melodic death metal for a reason, they have amazing singable melodies but they choose to (perfectly) growl over them

    • @Wurzelknecht
      @Wurzelknecht ปีที่แล้ว +6

IMO they are the perfect gateway band for heavy- and power metal fans like me to get into melodeath, especially because Johan is the best growler in terms of actually growling "clear" enough to understand the lyrics.

Love to see Amon Amarth on the channel! This album is a concept album that follows a young Norseman who is exiled from his village before joining a band of mercenary’s known as the Jomsviking, so you were absolutely correct in your assessment of this being musical theatre! I love the album and the story they tell within it!

Amon Amarth is one of my favorite bands in the genre. Been listening to them for so, so many years. While this song isn't bad (I don't think they have a bad song), there are a few other songs you should check out:
•Across The Rainbow Bridge from 2002's Versus the World
•Fate of Norns from 2004's Fate of Norns
•Valkyries Ride from 2004's Fate of Norns
•Hermod's Ride to Hel - Lokes Treachery Part 1 from 2006's With Oden on Our Side (since is my person favorite from then)
•Cry of the Black Birds from 2006's With Oden on Our Side
•Twilight of the Thunder God from 2008's Twilight of the Thunder God (this is probably their most famous song and will definitely get you some clicks)
•Embrace the Endless Ocean from 2008's Twilight of the Thunder God
•A Beast Am I from 2011's Surtur Rising
•Doom Over Dead Man from 2011's Surtur Rising (really nice orchestral work on this one, prob my second favorite song)
There are a lot of great songs on their most recent three albums too, I just don't know them by name because I'm generally stuck in their 2004-2011 era xD

Hope you’re having a good one Geebz. I will continue requesting that you please check out the band The Dear Hunter, until I perish. Songs I’d recommend to start with are “The Bitter Suite I & II: Meeting Ms. Leading/Through the Dime,” “If All Goes Well,” and “Ring 3 - Luxury.” Keep her going Geebz, been loving the new content

Amon Amarth is just endless Riffage on every album. It's a great band to ease people into heavier music

I really like this one in particular - just like the lyrics, it gives you the right punch.
Whoever suggested this deserves a thumbs up.
The video is also very well done, worth watching.
I think "Twilight of the Thunder God", "Guardians Of Asgaard" and "The Pursuit of Vikings" are the "classic" examples of AA.

Such a crisp sound, so clean, guitar sounds so fucking heavy, vocals are awesome it's perfect. I'm not a fan of power/heavy metal but this is exceptional.

If you're into this vibe, another great viking folk metal band is TYR. Try 'Hold the Heathen Hammer High' or 'Sunset Shore'.

Love the video! Ghost has a newer album out! Could you do a video covering their song “Call Me Little Sunshine”?

Twilight of the Thunder God, War of the Gods and Deceiver of the Gods are my favorites of Amon Amarth. Great choice though, Geebz.

As Johann, the lead singer once said at a concert, "You don't need to know the words. It's fucking death metal!". lol
