Great analysis. Sorry, Dave, but I'm with Sussan on this one. I think "Jesse" is no longer with Vessel here and has returned to her previous partner. The line "to remember what you ARE to him" and not "WERE to him" suggests that she is currently with the other person. It also ties in with "to fall asleep without you lying next to me," which suggests that Vessel can't fall asleep without her there. When Vessel sings that line in concert, he tends to put a lot of longing in his voice and finishes the line with one of his sobs. Stay safe 🤘 ✌️

This song is perhaps my least favorite from this album simply because it's the least delusional version of Vessel; I exist for Vessel's deranged mind, I THRIVE off of it. But lore-wise, I'll admit it's crucial to his story.

To temper your belief in all my promises
To swallow my desire and choke on it - (Vessel seems unusually pitiful here, and not about himself this time. Prior, he was always the victim; he gave us a snippet in "Blood Sport" and Sleep's perspective in "Higher" about how he also instigated and lashed back in the relationship, but he never fully admitted to his actions like he does in this track. This reality version of Sleep is giving fallen angel vibes, where even Heaven - probably an outside support system like family/friends or even the relief of substances - isn't opening their gates welcomingly anymore. Vessel wants to be that relief for her, even willing to put aside his own desires for her, but she's abstaining from him.)

The stories that you never told to me - (Hmm... what happened to this Sleep that is making his blood run cold? And how did he find out what happened despite her never telling him?)
Oh, but worry not
The blessings rain on battles in the heaven's arms
And my polite offenses won't last for long
The eager apprehension is wearing off
I'd give anything
To balance your conviction with certainty
To fall asleep without you lying next to me
To sever my connection with everything - (Vessel knows he can't help Sleep the way he wants to. His "polite offenses" won't be so polite now, and he won't hesitate next time around. He's actually going to rip off the bandage with certainty instead of just keeping it as a sugar-coated conviction. This is sounding an awful lot like a break-up from him... :c )

And I live like I've got missing limbs for you - (Wait, WHO'S HIM??? THERE WAS SOMEBODY ELSE THIS WHOLE TIME? Has Sleep already moved on long ago, and he's just finally coming to terms with his demons and getting over her? It seems like he's ready to move on in this epilogue... He's actually admitting to doing wrong before, and how he regrets everything he's done. He doesn't deny missing her, feeling like he's rendered useless without her.)
I sang this once on quiet nightshift, and my fellow nurse told me this is the saddest lullaby she's ever heard. I guess that's the best way to describe this song. This is definitely gonna be ranked at 35 for me. I love this song like any other Sleep Token song, but this song does feel like I'm missing something. Considering how clever Vessel is, maybe that was the point. Either way, I'm truly sad that we're moving on from this album. It's hands-down my favorite, and I am a hopeless nostalgic... but this feels like an appropriate send off. I'm so glad you allowed us to join you on this journey, Dave and Sussi :)
