(Well this may well be my interpretation, but...) He yells/raises his voice like that because he interprets the song as him being angry with the one he loved. So he yells in anger and frustration on why they separated, and how time was wasted in the relationship. But he hesitates yelling, and then suddenly stops yelling (or gradually softens his tone) because he believes that their love was/ is still delicate.
Wow! Simply stunning, I'm a big Damien rice fan and the highest compliment I can pay you is that if you close your eyes that was Damien! Only discovers this band yesterday and already loving their work. Excellent cover, stunning voice, great guitar
i cant get enough of this song!!!! chills, goosebumps, sadness, excitement, pain and freedom, all feelings within this song. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I honestly listen to this cover FOR the anger. My personal favorite version is by Cover Ward / TAward777. It's absolutely beautiful. But it's sad. Which is fine. To each his own, and I believe there to be both sorrow and anger in the original. But depending upon the mood I'm in when I listen to the song I alternate between the two covers. Great job, Alex!
I was doing HW while listening to this and kept accidentally thinking, "man Damien is so real, and good" and then I was like wait, this is a cover! hahaha absolutely best cover of this song in existence by far! you guys are unbelievably amazing! keep it up.
I think that the original also has anger in it, but its in different proportions. He does an excellent job of expressing a larger extent of anger while changing the confused undertones to match this different composition of emotion. And given that every ending of a relationship is different, I feel that Alex's interpretations of the song hold true to the original intent.
Dude Just saw ya’all on UNC-TV (North Carolina public tv) on SUN STUDIO and absolutely LOVED YOU GUYS!!! Shocked I’d never seen/heard of ya’all before... WHATS UP WITH THAT?
He plays it correctly by using the G where you feel a C should be. Something else I noticed is almost like he delayed progressing to the next chords slightly which almost threw the first chorus off. I guess it's for an aesthetic type thing, but the voice and lyrics are the only things thats drag on in that section of the song.
wrong.. it's the same pattern throughout. read up and listen a bit... the chords resolve every time to the G. His rhythm is a bit funky though, so that's why things sound a tad off.
10 years later and still coming back to this cover ❤️
Wish I could listen to this for the first time again. I had goosebumps the whole time.

Without the increased emotion/volume/"screaming" there is nothing but a sweet little melody. Loved it.

I come back to this every now and then. It’s like this has became a part of my timeline where I can revisit and still feel the same way as I first did
I had to go back and listen again. Damien is solid and gets you at the core of your being.
Nailed it. This song is suppose to climax to this anger and frustration. Any good cover belts the last lines and it's perfectly done here.
As they each have personal growth the whole group evolves. Dazzling
i can feel this cat!!!! What a voice....reminds me of the purity of Kurt Corbain...I felt him too!!!
This is such a good cover! It feels like it could even be yours Alex! Seriously it felt so real! Amazing interpretation!
Someone buy a drink to this guy. Excellent.
Goosebumps
He really got lost in the song at the end, that was amazing.
Stunning and beautiful to the bone.

agreed... you can "fake it" but it sounds as it. So the best approach to do it is travel through the feelings that are in itself
I like this better than the original, my opinion.
gorgeous sound!!!! love it to bits!
Beautiful voice!
Pushed "LIKE" before I even listened to it. Beautiful, man! Job well done to you and your team on Jimmy Kimmel last night!!!
Wow, awesome!!!
Just want to say... you are doing a great job.
Keep on going... don't give up!
Love your music but I do miss your brighter side.
Underviewed but deeply appreciated.

So fucking beautiful!

Shocked I’d never seen/heard of ya’all before... WHATS UP WITH THAT?
idk I am deeply, deeply moved by the "shouting" part you guys are complaining about; it just about breaks my heart to hear something so sorrowful.
23,000 views and I think I'm 22,000 of them
❤❤
真好💯💯
Chills.
Great cover!
That was awesome
this guy is fucking amazing.
Wow .
That pain is real...
vocals are quite a mix of Damien himself and Glen Hansard, beautifully done m8

3:30 Listen to it again
In some moments are confused chords
How is possible? This got just 2607 views? Can't belive.
ío you mean that he did play a C or he didnt and that was meant to be G?

At 3:30 he is just shouting .... he stands nowhere in front of Damein ... "Damein is Lord" we all know
i believe its the personal experience that affects how the singer sings. damien is sad, he is angry, simple
covers are meant to be interpreted by the artist.. what's the point of singing it the exact same way?
from the only place that you've known
- you played a G, should've been C
IM SO SORRY I DISLIKED IT ACCIDENTLY
it is fast and no emotion ........... just okey type cover
