I played Dofus maybe 06 or 07 till like 2012. I was FTP almost that entire time and managed to get a Sad to level 50 in the FTP limits. I've played dofus on and off since early 2007 and it's a pleasure to see it reached outside of France to so many players. It's also the first time I've heard the classes names prononced in English and it was hilarious. If you didn't know most classes names come from reversed french words that loosely relate to the background of each class. As for the absence of interaction you've experienced it's likely because most of the players playing retro are old players that already have friends and communities and likely don't use the in-game chat to meet new people. I hope by now you found some friends to tag in. As for meeting players in the dofus forums, I advise you don't, unless you enjoy room temperature iq conversations. Cheers from France
Dofus and Ankama games in general are something I've followed since I was in highschool (2011~) and honestly, they're a blast to play with friends. Some of my friends in hs were Dofus players and they showed it to me and since then I've found myself hooked to these really silly turn-based games. From my experience, professions in Dofus really are the main solo content. While you can fight in Dofus with most if not all classes like you mentioned, I find it way more boring than playing with friends or in a group. I find you can draw many parallels to OSRS and Dofus. I think they're games you can enjoy in a similar manner in terms of grinding, except Dofus is more goofy and fantasy themed while OSRS is just medieval-fantasy themed. On a side note, I think both games have amazing soundtracks and very, very similar storytelling where they go more into the comedic side sometimes.
I'm a french person who used to play quite a lot of Dofus and little bit of Wakfu but was way too young to have known Dofus 1. I haven't really played it even in its release, but back when it was shutdown, it was on version 1.29. Now it's on 1.41, and afaik while they were pretty relunctant in adding new content at the start of Dofus Retro, they opened up more afterwards and they are trying to add actual new content.
@@VagrantVideos Definitely for 2.X, but I don't think any port was planned for Dofus Retro/1.X. I thought 2.X had already transitionned to HTML5 in the meantime before Unity, but turns out it's still running on Flash!
PvP at lvl 200? whatttt? I dont know if dofus retro is like back in the day, but if pvp was your thing, you could easily start at 30-40, I played for YEARS and only got to 190 so thinking id never done PVP is crazy talk Also for the chat options, it does have a general chat, on top of your chat there are colors that you can activate to see those channels. im suprised this game is still going and they they gave the players the retro option, as someone who played for over 5 years. me and my friend group had to stop playing because of 2.0 it was so diferent from the game we had fallen in love with.. awsome to see it still being talked about!
glad to see a couple of people outside of france seem to care about dofus retro it's very nostalgic for me, but definitely still worth playing, if you manage to find a few friends to play with (as the community evolved on very problematic ways the same way it did with wow classic) although i have to admit this 15 min video about it is very incomplete, with a couple of point wich are inaccurate, a bit disapointing
Dofus was one of my favorite games ever, and I've played MANY games. The thing that made me stop playing Dofus (around a decade ago, maybe more) was the power leveling, nobody would try to explore anymore because there was nothing to be discovered, so it wasn't worth doing that at all. People would just grab a wisdom set and pay people to power level you to 200, so the game started to get boring. Years later I tried to go back, but the new Dofus is simply not fun at all for me. In the old Dofus, each class had its specific characteristics, they were all really original and exclusive. Now, every class does a little bit of everything, it felt like they blended. I forced myself to play for a few days but it was just not fun at all.
In the 1.29 version ... i played for about 5 years and barely reached lvl 200. Guess i was doing a lot of pvp but still, 5 years to reach "end game" is pretty good, also i still had lots of places to discover, 2.0 is the reason i stopped playing. I was so sad when they announced it
They do add new content now. They added 2 new dungeons + 2 new dofus and a new pve arena called "gladiatrooll" recently. And even if there is less content than 2.0, the game back then was focused a lot on farming rare drops like dofus.
I read about that but I also read conflicting reports. The devs said it was only added because it was originally cut content? So not sure what’s true there.
yeah nothing really big and new. the only new content are the temporis, which arent the main game. the cut content was just a way to introduce the 2 new dofus in the game that retro didnt have yet. retro should get more updates, but meh@@VagrantVideos

Dofus retro is open for so long but still I sometimes want just to enter to chat with the ppl on "f2p" areas BUT Dofus retro doesn't allow that like before (pre-dofus 2.0+)
did you know Eniripsa reverse comes from Aspirine, a medicament here in France to reduce headaches. Osamodas reverse becomes sado-maso from (sadist-masochist), because the player use to send its creatures to the fight while doing nothing. A lot of puns can be found in this great game. Proud to be a french native speaker x)...Cra comes from arc (bow in english), ouginac reverse becomes canigou, an old french brand which was selling dog's food. Iop means poi (bean in english). The iop first fight then think, they got a bean as brain :3
Couple people in the comments pointed those anagrams out. Literally never knew them until this video!! Love the community for this game, wish I had larger reach to get it more attention.
now that im an adult and can actually afford the whole subscription id go back to dofus retro in a heartbeat if it not were for the completely dead international/english speaking servers
Ive played dofus retro about 4 months ago , im an old dofus 2.0 player and reached lvl 100 in dofus Retro. Its still a good game, but dofus retro is very grindy where i stopped. Also, 80% of the playerbase is french and its hard to find any english players. But its still a cool game, i hope they would bring back an old 2.0 classic server for those who missed the good old 2.0 times.
Great video! i would like to add that the English community's on dofus retro are there and strong. the guilds are mostly international guilds (anyone is accepted but guild chat must be in English) Im not super sure about other servers anymore but on the server (Bounce) (solo account server only) there are a few international guilds (Hope' / Regin) for lower levels and newer players (anyone is accepted) and there is also (Interference) for the more end game international players (level 190+ with good gear) so there is a place for everyone's play style and expectations.
When playing on the monoserver, it's important to engage and interact with other players, it's more interesting than playing solo. Soloplay is easy, but if you play either Sadida or Cra, the problem arises when you want to farm a dungeon. There are many players and bots, I abandoned this version due to this problem.
I loved this game as a kid. I played retro for a while and hearing the music again was like i sniffed a huge dose of nostalgia, but nothing is better than the friends I made during those days. The game itself is nice, but being one of the niche English speakers it was very hard to make friends or groups, but when you do find them we stick like glue, kinda have too because french players can be assholes. I've met my fair share of people agroeing me even when i'm not part of Bonta or Brakmar just because they know my guild is English speaking. Is that fully true? I don't know, when I ask my guild, that's what they say with a few of them being bilingual to french. The game is fully solo with most of the players actively using multiple accounts. Even the solo servers some people made duo or trio accounts using vpn to bipass the solo requirement. It's a good game overall, but it's also just nostalgia. Ruined by mid maxers.
sadly you havent explained what the differences between the 1.29 retro servers is there is a legacy server and a retro server but what is for what? whats the difference.
As far as I could tell from what little there is online the only difference is literally the legacy server is just the original server from back in the day and a retro server is a server that released when retro was made.
I've been on a retro kick lately, and all those clips of games in the first 15 seconds of the video really caught my my. Would be a big help if anyone could identify some for me! I think the only one recognized is FF Tactics in the first clip.
I have been on retro for the past 2 years, English community is strong and in my opinion all the players are better with treatment with eachother, i would say over 80% are veteran players.
Love Dofus, but never play it for a long period of time, every other year I have a urge and play for 2 months or so and leave it; The lack of people communicating is due to, everyone on mid-end game has 30 accounts and plays a full team of multibox The french community can be okay but it is not unusual for them to ignore you or just be straight up racist The Brazilian community in the game exists but is small, I would guess it is bigger then the american/english speaking one tho. All in all, fun game, grindy as fuck, and the engine is super dated, it is a 2-5 second load screen every 10 seconds simulator with loads of pop ups with stuff taking ages to load for each map. People who never played it, I would recommend joining in for the seasonal servers they have every year or so, called temporis, its usually a different spin on things and a more lively community due to being a seasonal server.
