When Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror of the Ottoman Empire was planning to conquer the city of Istanbul, he had a dream one night in which he saw himself praying in the Hagia Sophia Church. He considered this dream a divine inspiration, which motivated him to conquer the city and convert the church into a mosque. He made architectural changes to the church, adding a pulpit and a space for delivering sermons. Later, during Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s era, the mosque was converted into a museum. Fortunately, in 2020, Turkey’s judiciary reopened it for worship and tourists.
