@@PointsInFocus great... I have been trying to get my R5 to do just what is shown here and it never seems to go well. Like say,,,, track a logo on a coffee mug someone is lifting up to their mouth and back.
Tracking a logo on a mug like that is challenging any way you cut it. If the orientation changes significantly that's all that you need to lose tracking. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, it really depends on the subject. This is definitely one situation where a person pulling focus can do better than the camera can since the person knows what should be tracked, even if it changes shape or is obscured.
@callumleakfilms, I don't see how that helps here. On the R5C, the AF Lock button disables the AF system, it doesn't cause it to lock the track to a single subject.
@@PointsInFocus Thanks for your response. Yes, if you could - that would be amazing! It’s one of the most annoying things I deal with while using this camera. It’s perfect to me aside from this and the battery life
i made the front button my tracking button!
It is still frustrating to use when in the field for run and gun. Remembering these quirks is key. Thank you for explaining this ❤
You can touch to track if you set it to whole area
can this be don in photo mode????
Yes, though it's done differently. Remember, in photo mode, the R5C is just an R5. I'll be covering more of the R5's autofocus stuff in coming videos.

Do you have a video on tracking one face among many? I find it hard to track a single subject in a crowd or even a 2 shot.
So I often select a face then press the AF-lock button. It is a right pain though, another reason to go with Sony probably.
Not yet. In fact, it wasn't even something on my list to do until you mentioned it.

@@PointsInFocus I thought it did hahaha 😂
