This amp is a piece of shit. You get what you pay for and for 60 something pounds I guess its not bad if you are just starting but you aren't going to be getting any of your favorite guitar players tones. Ever. That can be a turn of to people learning guitar, by not being able to achieve a proper tone (for example a lead tone) creates a situation where no matter what you do you are limited. A solid state clean tone is no indication of a good amp.
@Castlehill650 hey, you boutique snob. first of all, at the risk of sounding like a troll, the only people that post comments spewing hate like yours are the ones that lack the talent to back it up. I never post comments but for some reason yours really got under my skin. Sure, this amp is nothing special, but it wasnt designed to be used in a studio. it was built to be an affordable multi-functional entry level combo for entry level teenagers- like my 12 year old nephew that I bought this amp for after he had grown up watching me play. the point of me posting this Is to let you know that anyone that has the desire, drive, and wherewithal to become a seasoned player has to start on something. and a true master can make a plank of wood and a spider 3 sound like your tiny dick substitute marshall full stack bullshit. play for the love of it. not for how pretty you think your way too expensive rig looks sitting in your spare bedroom in front of your Rush posters, you fucking poser.
Best amp for the price, clean and distortion chanels are pretty usable. Take a fender frontman only if you don't use any kind of distortion. If you have extra money go for the roland cube.
Wow dude, you made this amp sound awesome! Not sure if it's the mic placement or your great playing, but you're really making me regret that I sold this amp haha. It was the second amp I ever had, so maybe I was just too inexperienced to coax a great sound out of it back then. Those chorused cleans in the intro were incredible!
I got the half stack and it's the best solid state amp I heard, great for budget musicians and who wants to have a clean hassle free recording tones, and the spider 4s have the ability for usb recording, and building custom settings in pod farm, and it also has the ability to mod any sound in the amp.
I've owned this amp for 12 years and it was the first one I ever owned! I bought another since the first one I bought was lost. Look I have people tell me that it sounds better then my fender tube amp in certain low volume situations. Bottom line is if you are looking for a versatile affordable amp that sounds good and can take a beating this is the one I mean man I have played 1000 plus hours into mine paired with a fender stratocaster (91' American custom) it really is the best spider line 6 ever made the quality is better without all the bells and whistles that they applied into later versions. You can really impress with this amp trust me!
Just bought the 30 watt Spyder 4 with celestion speaker , line 6. Are brilliant for bedroom practice but for some reason a lot of reviews on TH-cam give them a bad rep , excellent review mate , nice one .
I like the way you play guitar. Well, I bought this amp few weeks ago and I´m very impressed of it. The latest Spider IV is in a way much more a computer solution. Therefore you spend more time in connecting via usb and looking on your Screen than playing your Instrument. The more I like the older one, I love it. You said " If you nice to the shop keeper... he will give it to you for a 60 Pounds" - i got it for 38 Euros and cannot get enough of it. Your Video was very helpful for my decision. Peter from Germany
I would like to add a comment : I plugged an alesis guitarFX into it (AUX in) and take the "tube clean" amp simulation, a little bit of CHORUS and REVERB, gain 30%. The sound is very close to a typical Fender Blackface (Princeton or Deluxe Reverb). Michael says, that the 8" speaker sounds much bigger than its size - I´m of the same opinion and the open design of the amp gives me the sound I love.
I picked one of these up a couple of weeks ago, to replace an old Gorilla amp that had given up the ghost. I mostly use the clean channel, with a Blackout Tele, and I like it a lot and plan on playing restaurant and lounge gigs, with it. I have been playing guitar, for 50 years. As far as people laughing at me, I think they would laugh more, if I showed up with a huge Marshall stack to play oldies, in a small venue.
Ha! Nice one mate. I'm waiting on delivery of the amp for a mate who's younger than me. So what if you're an old git, so am I. Let 'em laugh, and ignore them. I've been playing for 37 years though, self-taught, flaws and all. Now I'm using a basic home studio that cost stupid money, and posting it on the net. Never got over stage fright, tried to deal with it using alcohol and class A's. Now I'm in recovery, and I feel fine. Rusty as hell on the guitar though. Keep on rockin'.......................dude!
Lee Hall ...Picked one up today used for $29.00 at Guitar Center. I was there just getting some picks and saw the price and didn't even think twice. I didn't need another amp but couldn't pass it up. I love it.
Keep this in mind before buying this, This is a beginner amp. You will not receive the best quality, but this should be your first amp to consider when first starting guitar.
you save the eq settings e.g. if you have it on clean and you want to keep it at treble 5,bass 7,mids,3 chorus on every time you go to that channel hold the clean channel button for 3 seconds it will save it until you change it the next time same applys for the other 3 channels hope'd it helped
@@indonesiansasquatch4926 i bought one second hand for 20 euro fucking love it even tho my small Squirer amp whos sadly broken and have a deep warm metal tone and my akron i think it is dunno bought it second hand too for 20 bucks the Squirer 30 but the Spider 3 beats both of them simply based on sounds
thnx man, u really walked me through the amp. o the salesman from guitar center really gave me a great deal, it was 75 for the amp and 5 for the nice 18ft live wire cable
This amp was great for its time. It may not sound like an Axe FX or a Mesa with boutique pedals, but for many it made the dream possible at a very reasonable price. I personally like the sound
I've been playing for over 20 years and I just picked one up. It's a good sounding little practice amp. I got it for $37.00 at the pawn shop. Until I can save $1000.00 for a Fender Champ, this will have to do...
@1ocd well ... as a typical american rock-n-roll fan , and son of a former pro guitar player, i must say i had never heard of him ...... i am now expanding my musical tastes into other types of music , and have been reviewing some of his stuff and i must say i find it interesting.. thanks for the poke in his direction !
1. yes dude 2. a locking nut is as seen here at the top of the fretboard. its a compulsory item for floyd rose bridges as it stops the strings going out of tune. you can have the nut locked and you can turn the machine heards to make it go out of tune but it will not go out of tune. if the locking nut is tightened too tight then the nut will push down into the strings which would cut into the fretboard.
Best amp I've ever owned its a modern marvel I can make this amp sound PROFESSIONAL with no pedals line 6 kept it simple with this one and without all the bells and whistles of its next model spider 4 which I sold because it has mush tone from too many presets and killed the quality this amp is AMAZING better than most amps triple is price also this is 2019.
This thing is amazing! Sounds so good and is ridiculously durable. I'll take a Line 6 over a Marshall any day of the week. I've owned several Marshalls, and they've all bit the dust within a few years, but this little Line 6 is still going strong.
Thanks for this very helpful review. I was thinking about getting one used from someone. Now I'm decided. I'm a beginer and like the effects on the Spider III.
He doesn't bash it, I respect him for reviewing it like any other amp, not a silly practice amp like most of the people who comment on this video. Sorry, but people, you're all idiots, every single one of you who says it sucks, it's not. It's a good amp for beginners and practicing, it's not meant to be played with at shows or anything, if you wanna do that get a Mesa, yes, Peavey Vypyrs are better, but still, this is good for what it's made for.
Oh and btw you are a great reviewer. Simply because every channel you do, you sort of fade into it, like one of the guys who reviewed an amp, what simply a blues player, for every channel he kept playing blues stuff, but with you , you play some blues , proper metal, ect Thanks for this review.
Glad you are asking for help bro, but the first thing you want to do is buy a guitar with more output power like a Les Paul or a Jackson. Also you need a good amp suitable for this heavy distortion tones, I personally have a Les Paul and I'm looking forward to buy this amp's bigger brother, which has good tones and effects: Well Hope this Helped :)
Best stomp box I have ever had. I run a Jackson Dinky with a Seymour Duncan SH8 Invader through this, with a 2 button footswitch, and run a lead from the headphone socket to my Marshall JMP 100W master volume and into a Laney 300 watt quad. After an hour in the studio playing with both amps I set the tones and now take it to every gig. I can't aford an Axe-Fx, but this combination comes pretty close. Valve headroom with digital FX. Btw I play hardcore and punk. Cheers.
I have had a ton of different amps thru the years and got tired of packing my head and 4x12 to small gigs...so I got myself a line 6 30 watt and I love it,if you take the time to play with it they are very versatile.
I plugged my guitar-electric drums-bass-piano through this and then use the line out into my tascam 24 track mixer, and i can get any sound I want using the two in tandam. Great little amp
I need help... Have the same amp and the same mic - SM57 I presume. Have the amp in an isolated room, and I can't get the sound of the amp to sound like the real thing at all... The mic distorts. What volume do you have it set at? Any mic placement tips? What am I doing wrong?
I picked one up from my recently deceased brothers house and cannot get it working..the unit above the on off lights up but no sound ,no other lights on ??? Was hoping to use it .
yup. go on metal, then u have to turn the gain up all of the way, then have ur bass and ur mid facing each other (the little dot on the knob facing directly at each other) then treble all the way. mine sounds way like metallica. wut do u think
go to the channel, set it the way you want, then hold the channel button that your using(clean, crunch, metal, or insane) till it blinks again and the settings will be saved
the currency is called "pound" for example in america and singapore, they use "dollar" as the currency. while the country this guy live in, they use "pound" as their currency.
I got the bigger version of this ( 75 watts ) and I what can I say is I can sound the same as mike casswell ( the guy from the video ). Its not only about the amp. Go check your pickup, cables you use and strings. All of these contributes to tone. There's one guitar player who plays with steve vai says steve vai sounded like steve vai even he uses a cheap old squier and a pignose amp. Tone is in the head not in your equipment.
Does anyone know what guitar apears on the video? I have this amp but the distortion sucks (my guitar is really cheap). So i want it to sound like that.
I have a Question , I saw one of these in your store for £70 but I can't make my mind up whether to get this one or the Micro Spider , from what I can gather they are identical except for that this is 15w . As they are the same price which would you recommend and are there any major differences I would miss out on if I went for the Micro Spider?
Anyone in 2024, Spider 3 75W+ has a dedicated reverb, you can find the 75W+ models for under 100 bucks then go for it. Pedals are expensive and you just wanna play? This is it. Your next go to is digital modelling (interface and VST3) which can go up to the 300-800$ range that being the price of a full head. I use a Line6 spider III and Scarlett 2i2, along with a small volume mixer into Fl studio with Guitar rig 7 loaded and that's a lot. But as a solo learning to gig, any of those components you can take 1 by 1. Spider 3 only? Good effects! Only have an interface? There are tones of free digital moderators. Fl studio? No problem. a recording is all you need! All 3? Now you can do whatever you need to (Within a tonal reasoning)
This is a fine portable 15w amp. Picked it up at GC on the clearance table for $24.99 and pleased with it. Never use the two metal/insane settings, but nice to have them anyway. The line-in is a great feature to play along with tunes via Mp3 or whatever...and the line-out when using headphones or dumping into a recording app. It is loud enough without unwanted cone distortion and the basic built in effects do what they say...and get along nicely with pedals to augment. I like the Tremolo and Reverb mix. It's a decent 8" amp to add to anyone's amp arsenal.
You can shred pretty well with LP, but the LP's are very versatile and suitable for many styles. If you want pure shredding, get some crazy metal guitar like BC Rich or Ibanez or stuff like that...
Hey, i have the same product. CAn you please help me out how can i record from the amp? I mean how do people record from the amp as they say they do? Also since there is a 'record' port on amp
@CallOfDuty14ful I had the same problem until I downloaded the instructions and learned how to do a reset, you will also learn how to store your own settings/sounds for each of the four channels. It comes from the factory pre-adjusted to what they figure sounds best. E.G., the clean setting has a couple of effects automatically when you first turn it on, My idea of a clean setting means NO EFFECTS AT ALL, so I reprogrammed mine to sound this way as soon as I turn it on, GOOD LUCK!!
Bought mine for $68. It's an amazing little amp which sounds great for what it is. The clean and crunch channels are pretty awesome. The metal and insane channels sound a little artificial so I don't use them much. The aux/ipod input is great for jamming although the sound quality is kind of poor...
I have the exact amp and had it for around 5 months. I have some problems with it, though: 1. It remembers settings from when I first got it, and I can't change it to remember new ones so it's annoying when going through effects. (If I click a new effect it goes to it, but to the saved settings) 2. After a minute or two, my Chorus Flange likes to turn into Phaser. Any suggestions?
I'm having a problem with the record out jack. I get a lot of ditortion, and when I mic it the quality is much better. Is there a way to fix this problem?
my marshall mg 30dx is finally 6 ft under, so i'm looking for a practice amp with gd distortion for the ibanez rg350 im getting, is this any gd and how does it compare to the Peavey vypyr 15??
I got one of these for $40 at pawn shop. Not bad. I replaced speaker with 10" celestion. Much better, but it's not a great amp. I am keeping it. I do like the insane setting. It's okay. I also have a Marshall dsl40c and I keep coming back to this one because of the low volume it's good for late night jams.
The Spider III's sound is pretty much Grunge across the board. If you want classic rock sounds, the closest I've gotten to a classic-sounding distortion on this thing is playing on the "Metal" setting with a Stratocaster set to the middle pickup. I recommend abandoning the Spider amp altogether and grabbing the VST plugin Boogex off the internet if you want what you're looking for. It's free and totally capable of GREAT rock distortion sounds.
hey i want something like this and there is a certain sound im looking for a angels and airwaves type sound very spacey and such and im playing through a gibson dirtyfingers pik up any ideas ? thanxss
The main difference is that the 75W and up models have a shitload of presets for individual artists/songs - and bigger speakers. Some of the larger ones (and the head version) have more effects and channels.
No its not. Its a very responsive amp, but once you max the drive knob, you realize that it is not exactly death metal territory; thrash maybe, certainly not death metal.
I've owned this amp for 12 years. It has taken one hell of a beating but sounds just as good today as it did the day I unboxed it.
Same!

I have a Question , I saw one of these in your store for £70 but I can't make my mind up whether to get this one or the Micro Spider , from what I can gather they are identical except for that this is 15w . As they are the same price which would you recommend and are there any major differences I would miss out on if I went for the Micro Spider?
wat was u playin when u was on metal? was u making it up?
u rock
Is it just a guitar with an amp? Don't have pedals connected?
That's a beautiful Valley Arts Custom Pro guitar [pre-Samick buyout; pre-Gibson buyout, of course.]
Please tell me your not going to play the whole demo on insane channel like every other teenie bopper on youtube?
Should I get this or a marshall DFX for a epiphone Les Paul Classic?
did you try gating the sound when the master was at 11? I think that would work?
this amp is amazing. it puts out the same sound as the 75W a friend of mine has but way more compact and way cheaper.
All you have to do is change some of the settings and hold the channel button down for a couple of seconds.
@lunapuwn where do you live? i live in portugal
Beautiful sound!
Robert Collins what??? Peavy totally sucks
Nice professional review brother. Thank you..
Hey, i have the same product. CAn you please help me out how can i record from the amp? I mean how do people record from the amp as they say they do? Also since there is a 'record' port on amp
@Codsrock could you please try more low chgugging?
amazing guitarist
What guitar cable do you use to run from your guitar to this amp? In your opinion, does it really matter what cable to use? Please reply.
hi, i just bought this amp so i got a lot of questions, how do u get rid of the delay while using the clean tone?
I've got one last year, great for beginners!
Yeah. The begining sounds amazing.
Can you set it up with delay and echo at the same time ?
Bought mine for $68. It's an amazing little amp which sounds great for what it is. The clean and crunch channels are pretty awesome. The metal and insane channels sound a little artificial so I don't use them much. The aux/ipod input is great for jamming although the sound quality is kind of poor...
I have the exact amp and had it for around 5 months. I have some problems with it, though:
1. It remembers settings from when I first got it, and I can't change it to remember new ones so it's annoying when going through effects. (If I click a new effect it goes to it, but to the saved settings)
2. After a minute or two, my Chorus Flange likes to turn into Phaser.
Any suggestions?
I'm having a problem with the record out jack. I get a lot of ditortion, and when I mic it the quality is much better. Is there a way to fix this problem?
@theshipsdrummer does it have to be a factory reset ?
my marshall mg 30dx is finally 6 ft under, so i'm looking for a practice amp with gd distortion for the ibanez rg350 im getting, is this any gd and how does it compare to the Peavey vypyr 15??
how did u get the clean sound, effects at the start, it sounds AMAZING
I got one of these for $40 at pawn shop. Not bad. I replaced speaker with 10" celestion. Much better, but it's not a great amp. I am keeping it. I do like the insane setting. It's okay. I also have a Marshall dsl40c and I keep coming back to this one because of the low volume it's good for late night jams.
orderd one of these a few days ago...cant wait till wensday or tuesday
i want to get an epiphone les paul std,and i'm looking for an amp as well.I want a,well, good practising-at-home-amp...would you recomend this one?
Can you hook up a pedal to switch channels?
Anybody have any recommendations for getting some classic rock sounding settings
Yes buy the 75 watt one it has 400 programmed pre-sets
hey i want something like this and there is a certain sound im looking for a angels and airwaves type sound very spacey and such and im playing through a gibson dirtyfingers pik up any ideas ? thanxss
yes, mine is like yours, what amp do you use? I use a behringer 15 w
Hello, i have the same spider III 15, can i plug in microphone in it? Thanks
The main difference is that the 75W and up models have a shitload of presets for individual artists/songs - and bigger speakers. Some of the larger ones (and the head version) have more effects and channels.
im thinking in buying one of these,is this any good for a death metal sound?
No its not. Its a very responsive amp, but once you max the drive knob, you realize that it is not exactly death metal territory; thrash maybe, certainly not death metal.
But it is a very good amp, good for practice and for playing in a small setting; worth the money.......
cheers for the little advice,but i bought a roland cube,and i f´ckin love it :D
Even better...
