Using SOLIDWORKS Routing for Pipe Design learn how the interface works and how editing the route is a simple 3D sketch with very powerful features. Use flanges, Straight T and Valves to complete the design. Separate the design for shipping by placing flanges where the spools will be taken apart, and if the flange happens to be welded to a T, then just use the option to Remove Pipe, and the smart pipe automatically adjusts. Then use the Spools feature to group the components accordingly and prep the top level for an automated drawing. With the Spool Drawing feature, SOLIDWORKS will automatically create individual drawings for each of your spools with automatic balloons and Bills of Materials. Not all automated drawings look perfect, so simple magnetic lines and editing the balloons for spools will make your drawings look great and make for easy manufacturing. Please help. I have problem adding Solidworks Routing. Templates cannot be created in the present location. I know what the locations of my two templates are. I tried the two. But still no. Thanks.
Excellent tutorial. It appears Solid Works runs great on your machine. When I enter the design library it takes ages to load. Care to share your PC specs?
Hi Mike,
We run Dell machines exclusively, NVidia Quadro graphics cards, 3.0+ GHz CPUs, and 16-32 GB of RAM. We find that slowness specifically with the Design Library sources back to where the Design Library is stored. If it is on a network drive it will load much slower than local storage.
I don't have the solidworks routing option in add-ins

When I save the 6." flange in assembly mode it converts to metric. When I try to dimension everything its mm not inches. But I save everything in inches. Just at the point of saving the flange in assembly, it goes back to mm? Can you help? Thanks

Is the library already equipped in solidwork?
It is included with Solidworks Premium!! It gets installed when the Routing option is checked upon install.

They are included with Solidworks Premium Licenses, you should see them automatically in your “Design Library
outing”. I don’t know of any location online where you can get them. Some you may be able to extract from the Solidworks Training Files for Routing - All SOLIDWORKS Training Files | Training Files | SOLIDWORKS Hope this helps!!

We have to number every connection. Flance , treaded, welds and so. how can you do that?
There is not a really good way to do that with only SOLIDWORKS Routing on it’s own, this is one of the reason they introduced the SOLIDWORKS Electrical suite of products. This way you can create a schematic P&ID, and then in Electrical 3D (SOLIDWORKS Add-In), you can connect to the same Project and Route the P&ID with all of the corresponding ID’s. There are also some 3rd party apps like Smap3D and SolidPlant3D.

I would use one of the existing flanges in the Library and Copy it, then modify the dimensions in the table to meet the E flange specs. Once the part is ready run it through the Routing Component Wizard (SOLIDWORKS - Routing Component Wizard - th-cam.com/video/p0lECUdJ2oI/w-d-xo.html) . Then it will be in your library and ready to use!!

Hey Parvati, after you place the part sometimes the triad will show up like it did in the video. However, if it does not, you can right click the part and select "Move with Triad" this will allow you to move the part the same way as was done in the video

I do not believe that design is in the default library. However you can create one and add it into the routing library with the routing component wizard.

How to close/open the valve?

I do hear a key being pressed there but you should not have to press anything, just drag the parts in from the library.

Additional components have been added to the library beyond the default routing library. This is why you see additional options in this video.

I have some problem as in video bends appear as yellow but I have red but tee and other stuff borrow from library appers yellow and after I exit it the red one disappears in the final output.

Hi Ashok,
If the radius of the bend does not equal the bend radius of the default elbow that was selected (@1:36 minutes in video), then the system will not be able to place the correct elbow on the route. I’m guessing you are using a custom elbow. You may need to make sure you use the Routing Library to add your elbow to the library with all of the needed sketches, attributes, and C-Points.
If this does not fix your issue then we would encourage you to contact your local Technical Support company to open an investigation for a fix. You can find out who that is from the link below:
