Spent the last 15 minutes of my 60th Birthday watching your video, I too love stamps, in the misted of completing 1934 to 1970 British mint never hinged, hard work as some are a bit pricey, not far off, spent time and money today as an treat,it's a bad bug and you just can't let go, keep your videos going and I will keep warm, regards Clark.

Its wonderful how a little square piece of paper can invoke memories. Hopefully in the future "Junior" will look at those stamps and have the memories you both made on your trip.

Well said, Mr. Silk. Stamps tell us a lot where we came from and who we are, that´s for sure. And I also think that the DAVO binders are a perfect home for your collection of American stamps. A little bit pricey, but the quality of these items is worth every penny. Thanks also for the history lesson. Happy completing, and see you on the next one. Greets from GER, U.

I mostly agree... they are quite $$$, but they do look great on a shelf and I know they protect the stamps well. Besides, I love em, so that's worth the $. What do you use?

@@silkontheweb Mostly Lighthouse stock books because I am a little bit more specialized: single stamps, plate blocks, Zip Code and Mail Early etc.

Good evening Mr Silk. Loved the stamp albums. That's the reason i love stamps, the art work and the history. Great road trip to the fort, in a very sad time of history

Thanks for raising the fact that most American history as taught to children and remembered as adults is often based on myth rather than fact.

Cat stamps brought back memories. Set the block to my former roommate from Thailand. He said that they were too pretty to send...

I don't really collect U.S. stamps except for 1901-1919 for a worldwide album. However, looking at your collection I realize that there are a lot of really beautiful U.S. stamps that have been issued over the years. We tend to criticize the USPS for their stamp program, but seeing it presented like this, it's actually very pleasant to the eye. Keep the videos coming, I really enjoy them.

Going bonkers its not the domain of the average stamp collector. You do it very well. And thanks for the story of Ft. Snelling. I recall hearing about the place during WWII. (the answer to your question is '93'.)

Glad you tried the Commemorative Stamp Albums route. Note in the 1970's until mid 1980's there were commemorative, definitive and postal stationery albums. It was spotty the issuance but look for them. The only proviso is that some of the stamps kept in their original packaging with the hinges risk sticking to them and getting damaged if they were stored in a hybrid place.

Thanks again for a great video, Mr. Silk. I really enjoy your story telling! That is a great surprise - that you love stamps. 😆 Well, one should also remember there is more history and stories before recent history, and there are also things that should not be repeated among other also done by "indigenous people" or "first nations". Those stories are rarely told and highlighted. Or am I wrong?

Thank you for the history lesson, I'd never have known about Fort Snelling had I not watched this, even if it did lead to spending far to much time on Google and Wikipedia 😂

Thanks for the history lesson…. We’re the soldiers at Ft Snelling in 1860’s “regular” Union soldiers, local militia or “galvanized Yankees?”

    • @silkontheweb

Regular army... one of the Minnesota regiments played a critical role in the Civil War, story for another time perhaps

What is the size of the albums on your shelf? Is it A4? B5?
Are all your albums the same size? Do you prefer 64 or 32 Pages?

    • @silkontheweb
      @silkontheweb  ปีที่แล้ว

A4... and just depends, for topical collections I prefer 32 pages since I wouldn't use 64...

stamp collecting, or philately, petered out from mainstream hobby concisciness a long time back. the end of the last century was its last hurrah.
with the demise of the post office as a viable message and parcel delivery system, the need for modern stamps is nill for the general public. most people's contact with paper via mail is either government or advertising. neither use stamps, including the post office. point is, collecting stamps is a futile endevor.
items produced after the early sixties is mostly non postal, but designed to separate you from your money to keep a non vital system afloat. look for their demonitzaon along with currency in the near future. gasoline powered vehicles will also join that heap.

Removing mint stamps from the packaging is always a good idea. The plastic used by the post office to package things is not acid free nor meant for long term storage.
