I have possibly The Most Unpopular take on all of this. 2 main things. 1) Did everyone else forget Fields told us in a post-game talk that he doesn't know what his coaches expect of him? (This was never resolved nor followed up on btw. That is suspicious).
      2) When he started staring at instead of throwing to open receivers, how was not one staffer on the Bears not concerned _nor _*_surprised?_* I want people to _think_ of that. Because Matt Eberflus waved all questions regarding this away a few times, then we acted like we didn't want to upset him. _Then_ we made up excuses _for_ it saying this was somehow them "simplifying" the offense because fields couldn't handle it.
Both these things would have gotten any HC fired by any team that was trying to win. If Justin Herbert ever came out & said his coaches weren't helping him Staley would have been out that week. If Joe Burrow started staring at open receivers, he'd be taken into the blue tent.
The *_ONLY_** way* this raises no concern nor surprise (lack of surprise = 'expected') is that it wasn't a surprise: this is what Eberflus called for him to do. _That's _*_WHY_* he waved away questions regarding it, because he could not tell us this.
Lastly, Poles. If Fields succeeds elsewhere, it almost would not matter if Williams succeeds. The fact is that if they don't *win the S-B with Williams* but could have fared about as well with Fields, then _he traded away_ his ability to trade the #1 pick needlessly & could have traded it for the players they needed to win. This could haunt or end his career.
So the fact that _he showed_ no concern about Justin's issues either tells me that this was The Plan all along, to pick "their" choice at QB.
I can add more to support this position if anyone asks. (But it will be links to other Yt channels, possibly competing ones. So I won't do it without your express permission).

Keep Fields, I just feel he needs seasoning and development under Warren an experienced playcaller will be a huge boost that people are underestimating. I also feel like unless we get a first round pick from the Fields trade it may not be worth it to me considering we traded up for him in the 2021 draft to get him.

Guys, the “you’re gonna have to pay Fields” argument ignores the fact that if you get 3 R1 picks, you can get salary advantage and contractual control on 3 players at premium positions… effectively giving MORE salary benefit. This means we won't have to go to FA and overpay for DE, WR, OL.
We should always mention this when we say “You’re gonna have to pay Justin”

    • @dorbeans777
      @dorbeans777 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

that’s assuming the 3 first round picks become superstars and even still the salary difference would be pretty much nothing because of the massive contract fields would have to be given. if you’re choosing to trade the first overall pick twice to keep fields, then fields is gonna ask for top 5 qb money minimum and the bears will have no option but to give it to him. if this was any other team in the league it wouldn’t even be a discussion, you can get younger, better and cheaper it’s a no brainer. there’s also not the usual value in getting 3 first round picks at this point for the bears, they already have a lot of draft capital and you win super bowls by getting superstars on your team, at some stage you have to just say fuck it and use the draft capital to move up or trade for superstar level players. getting a lot of draft capital is great when you’re starting a rebuild, similar to what detroit did, but the bears have a playoff level team already and are just missing that franchise qb. the only argument to keep fields is the attachment bears fans have to him, but why give up a clear chance to become a super bowl calibre team

Lions are a couple quality defenders away from being solid. A LOT of defenses in the NFC North were better. So the offense carrying this team as far as they did with a solid defense is going to be hard to beat. But it’s going to be a crazy next couple of years.

Yea it’s interesting what the Bears did with Montez Sweat. I thought trading for him was good and it worked out so far. But having a guy like Jaylon Johnson is honestly rare. A quality corner is harder to find then a quality edge rush. I’d imagine that Johnson would be worth more than Sweat because of the position. But again, it’s be nice for them to keep both. And I’m a Lions fan.

As a Bear's fan in Chicago. Fields took a really big leap this past season with Moore and Kmet in the passing game, if he wasn't hurt for 4 games, the Bears would probably have won 9 games and made the playoffs. The 2023 season was about making the playoffs and Fields taking a big leap. This season, if the Bears take Williams, the expectation is playoffs IMMEDIATELY especially when looking at what Stroud did this past season. But, as is the case with rookie QBs you're basically guaranteed a 5 win season. IF Fields goes to the Falcons and they go to the playoffs, then Eberflus and likely Poles will lose their jobs. On the flipside, if Fields doesn't progress and Williams does well for another team, then its a wash and the whole staff will have to be replaced.
Regardless it is a tough decision, but honestly, it makes more sense to trade the pick to get even more impact players in the 1st and 2nd round to sustain a team that can compete for the next 5-6 years as opposed to going all in on Williams, who may or may not fail with the Bears. (My gut tells me he is going to be a bust if he goes to the Bears) If Fields doesn't work out next year, at least you have more draft capital to replace him next year.

You keep fields and add Marvin Harrison Jr and you have a chance to win next year, although that division is becoming a difficult division for any NFL team to win.
A GM that wins must take chances including putting his job on the line. The status quo only allows a average gm to stay and keep the franchise average or worse off. If the Bears take Williams and he doesn’t work out, the gm will be fired 3 years too late and a overrated draft prospect, with the same dilemma you have today. Except the talent they do have now has been wasted by taking the traveled road, instead of trusting the players in the locker room(Pro Fields) and a few nfl ready starters and also a few more contributing not and promising young pieces on the depth chart, they would be able to add trading the 1st pick.
I believe drafting Williams is the safest route for the front office, but the surest route to be the Bears we know and expect anymore. A carousel of qbs, wasting very good defenses and underperforming as an offense. I don’t think the Bears want to stay their coarse of the Cowboys-lite. They got a new relocation out of the city and into the suburbs with an new stadium to build. Why not take risks and reinvent the wheel. What do they have to really lose staying with Fields and trading the first pick and getting a generational WR instead of a question mark of question marks for the Bears.

But Burrow didn’t have much around him at the start and got hurt. Didn’t impact him. Herbert has very little high end talent around him and he hasn’t ever looked like he didn’t belong as a top starter in the league. It looked like a man begging to keep his job as he was once again swept by the Packers. He can’t even fully claim that the defensive improvement was all due to his own efforts as a coach, as it was Poles that signed Sweat right as the defense seemed to turn things around.

Here's how I see it: if you sre a franchise that has a well-known reputation of never being able to find a franchise QB, you can not pass on using the first pick in the draft two years in a row to possibly acquire one.
Also, if I were running the Bears, if I were to use the first pick to draft a QB, I would also look for a new head coach, and go for a complete franchise overhaul. To me, I think that keeping Eberflus for another year runs the risk of wasting a year (think the 2023 Chargers with Brandon Staley). But, I could be wrong. Perhals Eberflus flourishes in his third season, similar to Zac Taylor.

I like fields *BUT* Bryce young as terrible as he was averaged more yards per game than JF!!! Who has 3yrs experience.
One could argue our little run at the end of the year was in spite of his shortcomings at processing. And, more of a defensive run.
Also, fields had the a top 10 amount of time to throw in the pocket.

If Caleb wasn’t 6 feet I wouldn’t be against moving on from justin. We also play in cold weather. Small guy like that in cold weather will not mix well. Sorry to let u Caleb fans down. They’re either trading down for Drake or keeping fields

If you think “he might not be good in cold weather” would actually have ANY effect of him being drafted then you are truly delusional, good thing you’ll never be a GM. And we both know they are taking Caleb, keep coping.

The Bears do not need to bring in Marvin Harrison Jr (even though that would be awesome). They do need to add a legitimate WR2 and WR3 to the roster.
*If* the Bears keep Fields (which seems unlikely) that's likely to only happen if they get a massive haul, for example by trading back multiple times. I don't think there's any scenario where they pass on Caleb for 1-2 extra picks. It's got to be a situation where they get so many assets that they come out ahead even if Fields doesn't make a big leap and they're forced to draft a new QB in 2025 or 2026. 1 or 2 picks plus Marvin Harrison is not it.

As the draft comes up I wouldn’t be so sure that Rome is still around at the 9th overall pick there are a lot of teams ahead of the bears that could use a wide receiver, I wouldn’t be shocked if both Rome and Malik neighbors are gone by pick 9

Although it’s more than likely Caleb is a Bear there’s an argument that Ryan Poles and Matt Eberflus are the right leaders to have around him. Caleb has a strong/unique personality and I’m not sure they can handle that

Poles & Flus jobs were never on the line. These two are saviors that have to clean up the disgusting mess from the previous regime. Everyone has zero patience and focuses on negatives like the record while these two have exceeded the expectations on the course of the rebuild

Can't wait for the Bears to draft another QB, suck, then fire their coaching staff after a year or 2 with the Rookie QB, ruin Caleb Williams, then repeat the cycle once again
