- The Ikarus 266 is a popular member of the 200 family. It has leaf spring suspension and rear engine. The 2 door variants are mostly used in intercity service, but the series also had 3 door city buses. Originally they were equipped with 5+1, later 6+1 speed manual gearbox and Rába D 2156 HM6U diesel engine. The 266 series was based on the famous 55 and 66 series, that's what made it so popular.
The series was introduced in 1971 at BNV (Budapest International Fair). Its dimensions are similar to the Ikarus 255, it was designed to be a simple and cheap vehicle. More than 6600 buses were manufactured between 1972 and 1990, 5000 thereof were operated in Hungary.
From 1982 transport companies started to replace these buses with the modern Ikarus 260 series, but some buses were still in service even nowadays.

This is a timeless classic, the most characteristic bus for countryside routes.
The quality of the OMSI version stayed the same. Good, but could be better. I miss the phototextures at some parts and the model also has some minor errors.

This is quite the nostalgia. I remember my first miles in OMSI where on this bus.
It's pretty rare, that the creators get the sounds and the movement right for harmonica doors... Thumbs up

I sometimes wonder how Ikarus went out of business. I mean, it was the biggest bus factory in Europe. Their buses were everywhere. What happened?
***** As far as I know the whole process started in the second half ot the 80s. The economic state of the Comecon countries was bad, which had a negative effect on the Hungarian industrial companies. Ikarus' main market was the Soviet market, which had a similarly bad economy at the end of the 80s. Then a failed deal with Moscow and Saint Petersburg, the economic crisis in 1998, etc. Irisbus bought Ikarus in 1999, and they closed it in 2003. The Special Coach Factory (EAG) was closed at the end of 2007.
Fun fact: in the 90s both Mercedes and Volvo showed interest in buying Ikarus.
That's really interesting... so that's like saying that the Irisbus Citelis and the Ikarus 260 could be somewhat related, like step brothers of sorts? Regardless, I have a video on my channel about the version we had at RATB, in Bucharest, up until 2008 or so. Mind checking it out?
Victor Gradinaru i think what happened to cause ikaris to go bankrupt was trying ikaris tried to get back in the north american market in early 1980 to 1984 and ontarion canada 1984 to 1987 but the body ikaris hungry built the crown ikaris 286 and orion 3 ikaris 286 sud stanard for north american weather conditions/ need to use road salt in winter and the frames rusted out way too soon and had early rusting in the first year. Later ikaris newer american buses fixed all rusting issuses but by then in the 1990's orion simply did not deal with ikaris anyone. At least with the ttc fleet many of the ikaris 286's were retired and almost all had some reconstuction before they were retired early and some even were put back together as a stop gap mussure for shoarate of buses till about 2001 amd 25 exttc did get sold to and rebuilt by octranspo with brown seats.

I also forgot the the late 1980's had a major market crash world wide whick badly effected every thing expecially the heavy bus markets such as gmdd and ikaris.
Elinndítom a buszt TAB 1 beteszem sebességbe és lefullad. Máskor ha pl. 2-esben vagyok és megállok akkor is. Mit tegyek?
Tartsd lenyomva a kuplungot álló helyzetben, vagy tedd üresbe. Sajnos billentyűzettel nem lehet "csúsztatni" a kuplungot, lehet hamar leugrasz róla, vagy nem adsz elég gázt.

Nekem csak annyi a gond vele hogy mindig lefullad amikor megállnék vele.
Kuplungot ne felejtsd el használni.
Ugye szeptember előtt betudjátok fejezni, sajnos nekem idén érettségi és szeretném még nyáron egyszer jól ki omsizni magamat.
