I find it such a waste of a great series, when people start watching Fate with Zero instead of properly with the three Stay Night routes. Episode one of Zero gave me ALL the feels back then in 2011, and all the people starting the series with the prequel will get NONE of that. Also it's just confusing to someone who doesn't know the lore, doesn't know the rules of the Grail War, or how the mages work in the Nasuverse. Just look at all of these reactors here. Just big question marks and "what the fuck is going on" energy on everyone, because they have zero context.
Watching fate/zero first is the only option anyone should choose. That and stay/night both spoil each other either way. Watching it in chronologically order is the only thing that makes sense, esp since the story and animation is much better in zero.

Not how it happened or what happened in-between. Fate Zero on the other hand spoils the crest worms, Zouken, Saber being King Arthur, Gilgamesh being alive and Kirei's servant, Kirei being evil, Illya being Kiritsugu's daughter, Rin and Sakura being sisters... And as I said the countless moments that are awesome or heartwrenching if you know what's going on, that are completely lost on newbies. Episode 1 alone has so many great moments, and all people who have never seen FSN will react to them is either not noticing them at all or a raised eyebrow of confusion. Doesn't matter that it looks prettier. From a narrative standpoint you're just doing yourself a disservice. I hope ufotable remakes the Fate route soon, so that argument about starting with zero because the 2006 version being shit can be laid to rest.
It’s a *prequel* and for most ppl that’s enough for it to be a starting point, bcuz surprise surprise, ppl like watching things in chronological order. Besides ufotable kinda messes with the order anyway, for the original source material, fate zero assumes you’ve read fate stay night. For ufotables adaptation, the fate stay night adaptations assume you’ve seen fate zero first. Ofc no one’s gonna know wtf is going on, it’s literally episode one and the “start” of a new series. I’m not saying that this is the “intended” way for it to be watched, I’m saying that it’s the expected way to be watched concerning anime fans who know nothing of the series bcuz none of these ppl read VNs or LNs.
