  • Inspired by some videos I've seen from Jeff Berrier Videos youtube channel on steam locomotives, I decided to take a reasonably good quality shoot of a travel on this 1912 steam locomotive from Baldwin Locomotive Works.
We are going to board a 4-6-0 12x18-38 2'6" BLW locomotive, #38050 unit produced, originally #44 in the railway, now painted as #42. Produced in July 1912, so 107 years old engine.
The trip is from São João del-Rei to Tiradentes, both in Minas Gerais state, just about 10km away in a 45 minute long trip with little to no cuts on the way, so one can enjoy the full course from the left of the first passenger car after the locomotive.
This is a very small locomotive compared to the huge ones in Jeff Berrier's, but the gauge is somewhat comparably narrower, so we can get nice wobbles even though the machinery is much smaller. The locomotive pulls a 9-car composition.
I found the technical information, among other sources, from the University of Texas online archive on the Baldwin company, located at legacy.lib.ute...
They got an amazing material that helps unveil century old secrets or lost info from railways! For instance, I found that the numbers currently printed in the locomotives don't match the original numbers it was shipped with.
EDIT: How unfortunate I'm forced ads in this video where I want to just share this part of story to everyone, only because of a background music played during the train unboarding. I'm trying to remove the song from Djavan without completely muting audio, but I will just mute that part if it does not work out. Hate ads, and that background music adds nothing to the contents. :)

Salve!

    What’s the railroad called

EFOM; stands for "Estrada de Ferro Oeste de Minas", translates to "Minas West Railroad", whereas "Minas" refers to the state name, "Minas Gerais". Only a small portion of the track (~10km) is preserved, the vast majority just buried in dirt or scavenged/stolen for iron.
