Chanute teached them everything, how to build the Chanute-Herring biplane glider, to use a monorail and weight dropping catapult. We need more men like Chanute, who mentor other men, and get them to do the best. Undoubtedly the Wrights where extremely skilled craftsmanship putting high standards and devoted for best quality. Afaik they were the first to build a proper propellor and surely they were the first to control a powered flying machine. Of course they wanted to monetize their invention, but they were very wrong to hide their discoveries and worse, to hinder and sue other pioneers. They wanted to monopolize flying, and extended their patent on wing warping to the whole concept of controlled flight. Using roll to control flight (by ailerons or other) must be so obvious that it was already invented, described and used before indepently (Matthew Piers Watt Boulton, John J. Montgomery, Henri Farman, birds) Imho their patent surely didn't cover Curtiss his ailerons, which were NOT attached to wings. Be skilled and devoted like the Wrights, but don't be an like them. Chanute who had mentored them for years (and probably sponsored), was be trailed, and never spoke to them anymore.
Thank you for laying all of that out. Very good to know. Our culture always celebrates the names we hear most and never give enough credit to people like Chanute.
5:50 heeey wheelchair accessable❤
that looks correct... one thing that is a bit odd is the wind. it generally comes east-west or west-east from the 2 bodies of water...
great review!
Hey thanks so much!
Awesome video 😁👍
Hey, thank you!
Question do you think you could show more early aircraft was just wondering 😁👍
It wouldn't even take off not sure what I did wrong....besides get in it.
Even though there is no throttle on the Wright Flyer, you have to give it full throttle with your throttle and it should takeoff soon afterward.
This is flying too fast. Those first 120 feet took 12 seconds. Not 3.4
