The “why” is so important to start this journey, staying true to who you are, doing it slowly, making mistakes, and not being excessive or too hard on ourselves. For me, it’s free time, a cozy little home (with decor items 😁), cooking fresh ingredients, traveling, my doggy girls, and semi retirement at 58.

Forgive yourself for starting over. Forgive yourself for relapsing. Begin again, over and over. Don't beat yourself up if it didn't work the first time. Be kind to yourself. That's what I would advise, for anyone along their journey.

First off your cookies look so amazing. My mouth waters every time you show them! Second: I definitely find my anxiety gets worse when the house is cluttered with my husband’s stuff. I try hard to remind myself it’s not causing harm and it’s just stuff. I definitely struggle with control issues.

So much truth in this video! Thank you for these gentle reminders 💛 one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned (based on mistakes I made at the beginning of my sustainability journey) is that mindset shifts have to precede material changes. And completely agree with you in that we need to move away from the all-or-nothing mentality and myth that there is one way that minimalism/sustainability/intentionality should look. There have been times when I don’t post a photo because I had a plastic cup and didn’t want to be hypocritical.. but recently realized that hiding those very real and imperfect moments of intentionality just add to the problem. Multiple things can be true at the same time and one of the lessons that have brought me more peace has been knowing that one thing can be true AND acknowledging that we can hold conflicting thoughts and feelings. A small example - I can be intentional about having a glass boba cup and calling the store to ask if they are taking cups AND still want and get boba in their plastic cups when they aren’t taking reusable cups due to covid. This myth of perfection can be truly detrimental, so I appreciate this vid lots :) thank you

Helpful tips and such soothing music in the background. Steps are being taken in the house but my husband has the "one day" gene so the garage will be as it is.

It's so refreshing that you mentioned the not so popular things with regards to minimalism. Wonderful video, as always!

    This is a great video.
It takes time and there is no hurry to get to the finish line, it’s very much a journey and one which should be a joy not angst.
My bedroom seems to be a dumping ground for my stuff and others unwanted clutter, the rest of the house isn’t anywhere near as bad. For me it’s important that my personal space is the area I work on first, we all need a haven.
Even if I only manage to clear the shelves & bedside table in a session, it’s an achievement and that needs to be celebrated. Clothes are difficult for me as I struggle to find clothes that fit me nicely and I often buy things that aren’t quite right, intending to alter them but never manage to. I would love a capsule wardrobe, I hate too much choice, so I’m gradually letting bits go, if I really like something but it needs to be altered, I give myself 3 months to do it or the piece goes. I will gradually build my capsule wardrobe & presently looking for a local seamstress to help me.
I believe that being more minimalist will bring more calm and peace to my life but it’s important not to beat myself up about not getting there quickly or for making a few mistakes along the way, I’m definitely not perfect and therefore just the fact that I’m trying to be intentional about sustainability and being more mindful about how I want to live is enough 😊

I think the "why" someone wants to adopt the minimalist lifestyle is also important to have firmly planted in your mind when family members or friends question your lifestyle change.People often feel uncomfortable when someone choose a dufferent path, whether ut be buying less, decluttering, or choosing to eat healthy food. I believe sometimes they can feel guilty for their choices.

Thank you for the gentle reminders and intentional words! I love the truthness of this mindset and hope as a society we continue to grow in a minimal and sustainable community without the pressures and unhealthy habits that can come with it.

Hi Christine...thoughtful video. It's true that embracing our imperfections also brings a sense of self love. As you say, minimalism is also an external manifestation but what truly is needed is to keep searching for the ultimate truth of this life...and minimalism is just a tool which helps...loved your video..

Thanks for this video. I like the gentle approach you recommend, especially when decluttering. A good reminder for me at this time when I am pressuring myself to finish decluttering our family possessions in a short period of time!

You'll watch an entire Netflix show even when the first episodes are slow and boring just because someone told you "it gets better." *But what if you looked at your goals like that and watched your life get better instead?*

Your presentation it's always impeccable and your ideas always resonate with me! Yep, think well before going into decluttering, be ready for it mentally as it's not always an easy process! Very welcoming video. I am beginning my minimalist/low buy life change. To be honest, it has stressed me out a bit. It did not progress as fast as I thought it would. 😕 I feel much better finding this information. Thank you. 🙂

So simple, refreshing and clean! I would love to know the name of the plant you have with heart shaped leaves? Looks to be in the kitchen on counter. I love hearts and have one plant that's a vine with leaves sortof in the shape of hearts that is variegated, called a philodendron. Would like to get one like yours. My most recent plant was the shamrock shaped leaves (not sure of name), for the luck of the Irish..lol. It opens at sunrise and folds in at sunset with little tiny flowers that bloom too! Different from my other more hearty thicker leaved plants, and its roots are getting bound and I think it will probably take different soil when I go to transplant. More to buy and store. Which I dont like. How and where do you store all your plant stuff? Can you make a video on having plants as a minimalist?

During your early stage of going minimalist, did you have different pov with your partner regarding minimalism? I wanted minimalism because coming back home to a hoarde of stuff in my house, bedroom, etc, making me anxious. Yet my partner still have hoardes of stuff and habit of putting stuff wherever, making it harder to have a clean space. Any thought on how to progress over this?
