    56:14 is perhaps the most important thing said in this entire interview. Chris says to just pop an EQ plugin on you master bus to adjust the headphone EQ curve when you're using the headphones and turn it off when you're not. Isn't that what everyone pulling their hair out about?

    Hi Justin, I just discovered your channel and it was so good that I subscribed on the spot! I am just an headphones fan and listen for the fun, nothing pro about it. I got LOT of infos from your videos and so they are very useful to me. I will be VERY interested by a full comparaison video between the Audeze MM 500 and the MM 100 as I do not have € 2000 to spend on a MM 500! (I am in Belgium and so price are in Euros here). As I am not the only one to not have € 2000 for a pair of headphones this video should be very useful to a LOT of people (MM100 are € 500 here...but not yest in stock in Belgium...). Also what is your opinion of the Sennheiser HD 560S? They impress a lot of people when they came out, especially in the $ 200 range price point...Best, Olivier Mannie, belgium

    Hey Justin! Have you been able to do a full review of the MM 100s line? I’m on the fence between the NDH-30 because I heard that the MM 100s have a narrow sound field and no low end.

      Yes, I am 100% biased in favor of Audeze headphones.
      I wasn’t originally. But now, after comparing them to every other major pro audio brand, they are easily among my favorites that I’ve ever heard.
      As with most of our sponsors, they are sponsors because I like them, not the other way around! :-)
      In any case, I hope the conversation is useful and informative about headphone design and tradeoffs in general, regardless of what brands you prefer or are considering.
      Very best,
      Justin

    Great video ! Thanks ! I'd like to be able to read an article that sumarize all that was explained here : the 2 branch series, the differences between LCD and MM series, the differences and the goals achieved between the same series models, like MM100 and MM500 for example, etc. I think users need more structured explanations on makers sites. Articles with more straight forward approach with less detail that could be provided on other more focused articles. Thanks for all !

    I just want to use one earphone and don't want to be tired of switching devices all the time depending on the type of music. I listen to 80% classical and 20% jazz , pop. I have also seen the mm500 so far, and I think the instrument part is quite good, and the vocals are in the front, so the female voice sounds good. Do you recommend other headphones at this level? I think the sound field of the mm500 is okay. For classical music, the instrument tone is not too modified. , the bass dive is enough for jazz. I don’t know if I understand this right?

    Hi Justin, a comment on a different topic: your analysis of the different headphones is the BEST I ever saw, so on the audio side you are the best. Now as I love photography I noticed that your video quality is not at all at the same level as your audio side: could you please get a better camera to film you? Your video is quite blurry, your skin tone is way off,...and it is distracting from the amazing message you give us as like I said your audio knowledge you give us is the best I ever heard on the subject of headphones...and your interview of the Audeze people Chris and Peter was amazingly rich in useful data...So please buy a good camera to film yourself and so your video quality raise to your audio quality...low quality video degrade your amazing content and message....Canon R50 or Canon R10 come to mind or Nikon Z30...(all those camera because they have the flippy screen which allow you to see yourself when you are filming and so monitor your quality and touch screen to set the focus point by touching the screen) Canon has a 10-18 mm wide angle lens coming soon (not released yet)...or the kit lens 18-45 mm should be good...they have "creator kit" with mic and mini tripod...B&H can advice you on what is best to buy for your usage...I was in USA for 26 years and so I know a lot about the market there....Adorama in NYC is also a good shop...This contructive critisism here, I try to help, even if you do not change your video quality your content is still amazing! I see you in your next video! Best regards, Olivier Mannie, Belgium

      @SonicScoop  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the kind words Olivier.
      I think what you are noticing is not camera quality, but the fact that many of these videos are livestreams, and especially when multiple guests are on the bit rate per person gets a little crushed.
      I’ve been using a Canon 70d and Canon t6i for many years now, but that hasn’t been the weakest link in the chain.
      Until recently, my lighting has been abysmal, and I’ve made efforts to improve it in recent months.
      In livestreams from earlier this year there was also an issue with interlacing that has since been resolved.
      I’m working on it bit by bit, but video will always be secondary to me, and I think the lowest hanging fruit is not the camera itself! (Though I may upgrade it some day.)
      Thanks for the feedback.
      Very best,
      Justin

Now what about my other comment on headphones: a detailled video comparing the Audeze MM100 et MM500? Coming? And what do you think about the Sennheiser HD 560S which sound amazing for his price point? (less than $ 200) (they do need some amplification as they are 120 ohms) Reading your answer soon! Best, Olivier, Belgium@@SonicScoop

      I’d love to do a 500 vs 100 comparison! I’ve only heard the prototypes of the 100 so I don’t feel right making a full public analysis based on that. I am looking forward to hearing the final production models of the 100 and saying more then.
      I have not heard the HD 560, and had not heard of them until now! They are a consumer model, so they were not on my radar.
      Have you tried them? What have you thought? Would love to hear them. But I don’t know if they will have them at AES when I will be there this week, since they are not in the pro line.

    I wish there was some real discussion about Audeze's future after their acquisition by Sony Interactive Entertainment. I'm not super confident that the Sony deal won't affect the Pro Audio side of the company going forward. Then again, Sony itself has a pro-audio division and makes some nice mics at least, but there are no premium audio products AFAIK in their catalog. I guess time will tell - hopefully they'll keep at least providing earpads and other parts for their current line-up.

    • @SonicScoop
      @SonicScoop  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Umm… have you never heard of the Sony C-800G??? 😀
      Sony definitely make some super high end products on both audio and video, so I wouldn’t be worried that Audeze would stop making any high end headphones.
      That said, from a business perspective, I’m sure Sony stands to earn more from the fact that Audeze is already able to produce high quality planar magnetic and electrostatic drivers in large quantities at high quality and relatively low cost. That’s the bigger market.
      But, 1. Retaining some super high end products is great marketing for more affordable units
      2. High end designs are usually high margin and profitable and
      2. Sony bringing economies of scale to high quality Planar magnetic headphone driver instruction probably means that more people (and more brands) will be able to afford better headphones than they currently can.
      I’m not too worried, as Sony has a great history of having independently operating business divisions that are largely autonomous within executing reasonable sustainable business targets.
      I’d imagine the lineup would be optimized and streamlined and solidified over the years.
      And I also imagine that a lot of other companies will benefit from purchasing Sony/Audeze headphone drivers in the future, just as they now benefit from buying Sony made chips and sensors for their own camera designs.
      Sony make sone of the best of those available, and I hope and predict that’s roughly how this will play out.
      I mean… does anyone complain that Sony has ruined cameras??? Or that they’ve driven the design of the c800g into the ground???
      That’s some perspective right there :-)
      Hope that helps!
      -Justin

      @@SonicScoop Just wanted to clarify that yes I have heard of the C-800G but I actually made a mistake in thinking that its discontinued. Can't find it on the shelf anywhere here in Europe. All we get is the C-80 and C-100, but maybe the C-800G just not stocked and needs to be custom ordered because of the prohibitively expensive price! :) Now, on the video/camera side they're been truly breaking new ground with their DSLR models (with Panasonic in tow, competition = good) and I applaud them for that. I do hope that Audeze can keep doing what they're doing and they have promised as much, keeping the brand name and production facilities, etc. I don't know anything about Sony's history with its subsidiaries so I'm taking your word for it and hope you're right. Was thinking of upgrading my LCD-1 to the MM-500 before I heard these news and started hesitating because acquisitions are not always the best thing for companies' business practices or the consumers.

    • @SonicScoop
      @SonicScoop  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, it is hard to find the C 800 G on the shelves, because they are constantly on back order!
      To their credit, Sony refuse to reduce the quality of the microphone in order to be able to make and sell more of them.
      Not every merger and acquisition works out well, for sure!
      But I think Sony has a pretty good track record for continuing to offer some really high-end stuff across all the product categories, even though the real money is to be made in more affordable stuff.
      If the way they handle this technology is like their other divisions, my guess is we will continue to have at least one great high end model indefinitely, and some real breakthroughs in the affordability of what is a newer and better technology for the broader market.
      Is it possible that they could wind up with a smaller number of high-end models? I would guess that’s possible. But honestly, that might be kind of welcome. Audeze has a lot to choose from, and streamlining the high end offerings could prevent customer confusion and be good for the brand and its bottom line, without sacrificing quality.
      At least, that’s the kind of thing I would be thinking about if it was my job to revamp the business. Which it isn’t! :-)

I tried mm-100 and gosh the high frequencies on that one for the price were terrible. mm-500 on the other hand is a work of art. So like just be honest yu know. So mm-100 arguably for me as a m&m consumer is a terrible product. Stuff like that right

      It can be done! MAJOR mixers and mastering engineers are doing it. Manny Marroquin. Glenn Schick. Many more.
      A lot of the Audeze headphones sound much better than many treated rooms and monitors.
      Not all headphones are up to the task. But some are. (And many rooms aren't!)
      Ultimately to get the kind of quality of playback you can get out of a great $1k-$4k pair of planar magnetic headphones, you'd need to spend MUCH more than $1k-$4k in monitors and room treatment.
