Well, with all the HGAC kits we’ve been getting lately, we may get some Endless Waltz stuff after the HGAC Shenlong.
Probably the best 1/144 HGFA kit honestly, saying that, the competition isn't exactly fierce.
This was my first gunpla kit and I don’t care what people say about the quality of these older kits! This little kit got me into the hobby and it was a lot of fun building it!
I got this during the first gundam craze in 2001. Serpent was by far one of the best from the hg ew line.
For its age, it's one of the better 1/144s from around that time, I feel. Still badly needs an update.
Also, this mobile suit represents one of my biggest Gundam pet peeves: suits with "custom" in the name where they're clearly not. GM Custom has the same issue. The name implies it's been customized for a particular pilot or function, but these are just mass produced. What is a "regular" Serpent, then? It'd be like if Zaku II existed, but not Zaku I.
Well, to be fair, the "Custom" in GM Custom is less "Customized" and more "Revised".
much like the Heavyarms/Sandrock, it would have made more sense with the "Kai" moniker
Yeah this. "Custom" was basically just used to denote it was from Endless Waltz and not the show(Before they came up with the "EW" moniker) to distinct the kits.
Yeah, I would argue this kit is no worse than some of the early HGUCs like the original Guncannon. It feels like one of those things where it doesn't feel bad to get this in 1/114th scale because there's no way it's getting updated anytime soon, bu unlike say...the original 1/114th Heavyarms, it looks reasonably color accurate, and the articulation is...passable. Like I said, it feels more like early HGUC than 90s NG.
Technically, this could be based on the slight variant that Trowa/No Name used in the OVA, judging by the double gattlings
It's a mess with the naming to differentiate the 1/144 from the 1/100.
The names should have been reversed as the 1/100 one has the loadout for the customized version that Trowa uses in his infiltration (along with the cannon) while the 1/144 only has the standard loadout of one of each (though only one should be equipped). So the 1/100 should be the custom and the 1/144 is the standard unless you buy a second kit.
Ahh memories, this was my first gunpla kit back in 1999 when I was in 7th grade! I broke the right arm two weeks after I built it. 😒
Anybody else excited for the new HG Leo?
I love this review format, and also wanted to echo you on the 1/100 being the way to go with this mobile suit. That shows its age in some ways, too, but has opening missile pods, the two double gatling cannons, as you said, but also has a bazooka to go with those and the beam cannon.

Only experienced this kit via a Bendi bootleg(1/100 boxart for 1/144 kit). It was on an odd desert pallette(different shades of beige) that I assumed was the original color until I saw this video...
This was the first kit i actually took the time to paint, brings back the memories :D

I had this kit and it was pretty good. Literally I had this on my shelf and was offered cash for it due to the popularity of Endless Waltz when I worked I Best Buy back in 2000. I built this and the Sandrock Custom. After the OVA man these kits were showing up at TRU and some Walmarts. Was on the fence at first but $10 at Wallyworld was not a bad deal. So I picked them up. Compared to the 1/100 for both these kits were much better than the original Wing kits. As far as stability somewhat better than the original 1/100 Wing kits. I use my 1/100 HG Epyon as an example it looked great but it was not stable. My friend did build the 1/100 Serpent Custom so yeah there is a lot of detail and features missing, but I will say they were impressive for there time. I cant remember why I am such a 1/144 fanatic now as apposed to back then it had to be HG/MG and 1/100.

serpent is one of my more preferred grunt suits. it honestly makes me think they got data from the heavy arms gundam and made a grunt of it.

yep it is, just like Leo that was mass produce (and downgrade) version of tallgeese, serpent are mass produced and downgrade version of heavyarms
Am I the only one who thinks that this kit needs a 2.0 with some extra equipment, like beam sabers and a shield? I can’t be the only one.

I love this mobile suit and Leo! I hope they would rework Serpent Custom. If not at least a new Serpent Custom on Gundam Diver series :)
These do make for decent troop builders given their price at the very least. I've got 2 of them to fill out what minimal excuse of an AC shelf that I have.
did OZ grunt suits get model kits back in the day??? stuff like the LEO and Aries.......I don't remember ever seeing model kits for them . it was all the gundam and the Mercurius and Vayeate

Bandai should make an HGAC kit of this mobile suit after the Leo release.
I'd love one, though I'd rather have a Taurus, preferably with the Sanc colors.

I second that Taurus statement! I adored that suit when I watched Wing back on Toonami nearly 18 years ago and I'd kill for a DECENT kit of one! (I know there's the LM version, but I've been unable to track one down...)
I actually had the old MG Serpent, but the elbow joints couldn't hold up its massive weapons either...
I thought at first that the maganac is the predecessor of the serpent since they are quite similar. @ kakarot, do you plan to get other old EW model kits?
maybe with a bit of work, (maybe by using an ibo graze frame or something), then i can see this kit towards up to modern standards (with some sacrifices of course)

Surprised you didn't get the HG 1/100 Serpent Custom. Then again, this one does have better knee articulation (the 1/100 only goes to 85 degrees).
800 y? Where I live, I remember buying my Endless Waltz 1/144 HGs for $16 at the time. The 1/100 would go for $35.
Only one gattling? Why does the 1/100 has double the weapons?

The add name (custom) is for the movie, so how dose the original serpent look like?
still not sure HG Builders Option parts can help fix the joint issues, if they were compatible in the first place considering how ancient this kit is.
Yeah there's only so much you can do with those crappy polycap elbows that plagued most 90's kits. I've been heavily modifying an old 1/144 Mercurius to update it to "relatively modern" standards and I've pretty much had to remake the upper arms and elbows from scratch.
Been wanting the 1/100 but they price has been goin up in places. If you found any places that sell it close to original retail price let me know.

Gundam Wing had the best grunt suits out of all the timelines...no dumb spikes like the zaku, no goofy designs like well...90% of zeon suits...simple, utilitarian designs like mass produced suits should be...to bad the Gundams were overpowered in Wing

Ludovico il Moro Federation has better looking grunt suits. However, there's the Geara Zulu, Gouf Custom, and the Bawoo for Zeon.
