- #BassGuitar Cover Series is an attempt to put out songs that I enjoy playing bass the most. Any musician who follows Indian Composer 'MAESTRO' #Ilaiyaraaja closely will agree with me that Bass Guitar plays a crucial role in his song arrangements (esp late 70’s, 80’s till abt mid-’90s) - Melodically and Rhythmically. This is one such example. I present to you - a bass cover of #NinnukoriVaranam from the movie Agni Natchathiram composed by Ilaiyaraaja and sung by K.S.Chitra.

I was 13 years old when this album was released. Even though I was a staunch maestro fan by then the modernity and grooves in this album took my breath away. We bought the first boom box in our house (National RXC40 with graphic equalizer) and the first recorded tape that came up with the set was this film. I was so happy to explore the settings of the equalizer to increase the bass and without knowing I fell in love with the bass guitar. Up until the year 2000, I was not aware that the maestro's bass lines are captivating me all the time. Guitar Prasanna wrote an article about Raja sir's bass work and how impeccable it was on most of his songs. Since then I followed most of Raja sir's song and almost by-hearted all the bass lines. It is so refreshing to see an amazing musician like you perform the bass and show us the magic in real-time. Your fluid playing shows how much time you put into practice to master the fretboard. Thank you so much, Aalaap.

Wonderfully played! We can clearly understand how bass supports/compliments the overall structure of the song, sometimes playing as Harmony and some times acting as a counter-melody.
