Jake is the perfect addition to the sanctuary. I don't believe you could have found a better addition 😊. He is knowledgeable, willing to learn, admits mistakes, laughs, understands the struggles etc and he gets along with the humans and animals 🥰
Lester one thing we do is before you drop the bale to the ground leave it up about 6 inches to a foot off the ground and cut your strings. Then you can pull the all off before you set it on the ground. Then you won’t have the animals get string around their heads. It works like a dream.
If Tex is trying to floss his teeth someone needs to show him how 😹 Tex and Shirley have a lot in common Tex with the string's and Shirley getting her head stuck in the fencing! Good job Lester you also pulled off his hay hair piece.
Suggestion - cut the string while the roll is on the tractor picker. Lower it down to where you plan on dropping it, but leave it in the air a foot and cut and pull all the strings then. This way there's less string for him to mess with. Love you guys!!
That is the exact same thing I was thinking do not set the roll all the way down. If you watch Cross Timber bison he cut it while the role is on the spike🐃 and he does not have that problem with his buffaloes

I’ve seen where Daniel Arms cuts off all the string when the bale is up in the air before being placed on the ground. Good job with Tex. Mutual respect goes a long ways.
Lester I watch Daniel Arms put out his hay. He gets it into position on the forks or whatever that stabby thing is called.😁 He leaves it in the raised position cuts and pulls off the string and then lowers it into position. Does that help? Or are you rolling your eyes?😆
I love your videos. You always take great care of your babies. That being said laster you can cut the bailing store twine strings and then you can pull them and get them from underneath the bales of hay. Im a 68 year old woman and always pull the strings off of my round hay bales. Keep up the good work & having a keen eye with your babies.
I subscribe to all Morrows and Jami’s channels. My daily dose of happiness. I have to say my favorite videos have always been ones with Lester and Jake working together. You two work very well together. Some glitches and hiccups are expected along the way (duh) but you two collaborate and work hand in hand perfectly and I love it. Jake has quickly been an indispensable asset to the sanctuary. Kudos!
Lester you might try cutting the strings and removing them while the hay bale in on the hay fork before setting the bale of hay down. That is how we would do it on my grandparents farm.
Oh I worry about Tex and his soon to be palace pasture if the string saga continues 😢 I’ve seen where a farmer lifts the bale using the tractor in the air and cuts the strings off before setting it down. Love Tex to pieces ❤️
You might want to consider looking into purchasing a snake hook. The type that are for very large snakes like reticulated pythons or Burmese pythons. There's no sharp edge on it and you'd be able to possibly hook up under the string and pull. This way you wouldn't have to worry about cutting your him. I know you're very concerned about him suddenly moving accidentally cutting.
His running is so beautiful, I love to watch him. That scratch looks awful. He always seems to get scratched in the face, I think that eye has something to do with it.

When we put out a new bale we always cut the internal bottom strings, only leaving one or two on each side to keep the bale intact. Once you place the bale down those these strings come out easy.🇦🇺😉
Great rescue and you can tell in this video and all the tex videos...tex sure does listen to his dad even though he might try to rebel he know who the boss is and that's amazing to see...and oh my god how funny the help left you in danger to visit with the mail lady....I laughed so hard at the attention span that Jake has at times....but Lester you have more patience then what I could ever have. Would it be possible to cut, and remove all of the string, while it's still on the hay spear, just above where you are going to place it? Or would it just fall apart? I know local farmers get all that string wrap off the round bales. Actually know of a farmer who lost cattle because they ingested the string. Please remove all string before putting it out for the animal. This is something I have been wondering about when I've seen you feed.
We've always been vigilant about removing all of the baling twine because of it causing a choking hazard with our horses. Any livestock animal can accidentally ingest it.

Cindy here. I used to always take a lunge whip with me to go out and feed a bunch of horses. Not necessary to hit them, of course; just pop the whip and they give you space. No need in getting kicked!

I grew up around horses always wanted to own horses I never got one until I got married then I ended up having seven of them but my favorite one his name was lightning and I raised him from a baby coat up to 5 years old he passed away and I have not had any horses since then he was my heart and I sure do miss him love your videos and love you guys God bless you all 😪
I was a chef at a private school where they had stables. The staff and the students also lived there on the school campus. One of the teachers was working with the horses and got kicked in the face. Her face and jaw bone were shattered and she was medi-vacted to the hospital. It was very scary for the students of course. I'm not sure if the horse was startled or what happened. I wouldn't want to speculate. But for sure to use caution around all animals and equipment. Its not always the living and breathing things that cause injury. Anything from a tractor to a Hobart can change your life forever.
I am so glad that you were able to get the string off of Tex. That is so scary. Another thing that I am glad about (and please know that I honestly do not mean this wrong) is that it is good that Tex is still at your Sanctuary and not in another location in case the same thing were to happen while he was at his new location and you may not know that it happened. I honestly trust everything that you do Lester. You and everyone at the Sanctuary/Farm are so great with all of the animals and every thing that you do.

Lester , as an old disabled person , I have grabbers in everyroom of my apartment. Grabbers are a stick with a claw like end that helps you pick up things you drop or reach things high up that you can't get. I can't live without mine. Now I have an idea for what you need when things like this happens to Tex. If you get a grabber and place it on a LONG pole , you could reach from a safe difference and just grab that string right out with no fear of injury to him. Please give it a try. You can buy those grabbers on line anywhere.

I know local farmers get all that string wrap off the round bales. Actually know of a farmer who lost cattle because they ingested the string. Please remove all string before putting it out for the animal. This is something I have been wondering about when I've seen you feed.
Not with the way tex acts. It wouldn’t be safe.
We've always been vigilant about removing all of the baling twine because of it causing a choking hazard with our horses. Any livestock animal can accidentally ingest it.

Or, maybe if you've already made the cut when the bale is grounded, to roooolllll (or tilt) the bale over so you can catch what's buried under the weight...???

@@sharonwolfe5210 theres ALOT of string that holds those bales together. It’s impossible to get all of the string even when dealing with calm and gentle animals.

Good job Lester. If he ingested that it could wrap around his internal organs & cause a strangulation. If that happens it cuts the circulation off & begins to kill off the organ. I know you're aware but for those that don't it's just a little info. I'm so glad you were able to get it without upsetting Tex to much. Great job! 👏👏👏👏👏

Cindy here. I used to always take a lunge whip with me to go out and feed a bunch of horses. Not necessary to hit them, of course; just pop the whip and they give you space. No need in getting kicked!

I grew up around horses always wanted to own horses I never got one until I got married then I ended up having seven of them but my favorite one his name was lightning and I raised him from a baby coat up to 5 years old he passed away and I have not had any horses since then he was my heart and I sure do miss him love your videos and love you guys God bless you all 😪
I was a chef at a private school where they had stables. The staff and the students also lived there on the school campus.
One of the teachers was working with the horses and got kicked in the face. Her face and jaw bone were shattered and she was medi-vacted to the hospital.
It was very scary for the students of course.
I'm not sure if the horse was startled or what happened. I wouldn't want to speculate. But for sure to use caution around all animals and equipment.
Its not always the living and breathing things that cause injury.
Anything from a tractor to a Hobart can change your life forever.
I am so glad that you were able to get the string off of Tex. That is so scary. Another thing that I am glad about (and please know that I honestly do not mean this wrong) is that it is good that Tex is still at your Sanctuary and not in another location in case the same thing were to happen while he was at his new location and you may not know that it happened. I honestly trust everything that you do Lester. You and everyone at the Sanctuary/Farm are so great with all of the animals and every thing that you do.

Lester , as an old disabled person , I have grabbers in everyroom of my apartment. Grabbers are a stick with a claw like end that helps you pick up things you drop or reach things high up that you can't get. I can't live without mine. Now I have an idea for what you need when things like this happens to Tex. If you get a grabber and place it on a LONG pole , you could reach from a safe difference and just grab that string right out with no fear of injury to him. Please give it a try. You can buy those grabbers on line anywhere.
