One of the best solo in history so beautiful and complex.. but maybe only guitarists can understand the level of complexity and writing that Jari did on this solo
these solos are amazing but not so complex, sweep picking following chords all the way. YET, super technical, fast and difficult at this speed. impressive composing dont get mw wrong
@@korth26 have you heard the first 10 seconds of the solo theres no sweep picking just brilliantly placed chords and probably the swankiest intro to a solo fucking ever its amazing
The demo version of this song was the thing that sealed the deal for Kai Hahto. He gladly agreed to play the drums for the band since he loved this song so much.
Hey guys, excellent video and review. I think you guys were spot on. The melodies in this song were great! Wintersun is quickly becoming my top melodic death metal band. Props to you, gents! Look forward to future videos. :)
Couple fun facts: The demo version of Winter Madness also included an intro, similar to this but not as long. The one you heard in this version was used as a live intro in the band's early days. The first Wintersun album was recorded by only two musicians, Kai Hahto (drums) and Jari Mäenpää (everything else). Kai used to be in Rotten Sound, a grind core /extreme metal band, hence the crazy drumming.
Time I is probably my favourite album from Wintersun, but the first album has the best guitar-riffs and solos that Jari has written. This song is a prime example of what a classic metal masterpiece sounds like! But yeah, I think you should do Land of Snow and Sorrow next Sunday, and then move back to debut and do rest of the songs from this album.
They did raise more money that they've hoped for this crowdfunding and it was named the most successful croudfunding in metal history. They planned on having three crowdfundings for the studio but now i think they will do just one more, it's great! And the material in it was awesome
well, they planned 3 crowdfunds but this first one alone reached 500k already so next year (or early 2019) the 2nd crowdfund will happen and it will probably be enough. The crowdfund is closed now so you'll have to wait till the next one, like I said, next year. As for reactions, stay with the original album, the reaction to starchild cannot come soon enough
Wintersun is touring through the whole 2018, and I believe Jari said they start to plan the next crowdfund on 2019, so you still have to wait a year or two from 2019 for the 2nd crowdfund.
#HEYGUYS! Please stay with the first album. It is an *masterpiece* ! And you will change your opinion a lot because every song could be an all time favorite.
Next sunday: Sleeping Stars, I hope. It comes next in the album anyway. I would love to see your reaction to the one remaining song from the Time I album, which is Land of Snow and Sorrow. There's also When Time Fades Away, although it's 4+ minutes long, it's merely an intro to Sons of Winter and Stars. It's not terribly exciting by itself, no vocals, no drums, no guitars and no bass, it's purely orchestrations.
it IS exciting and majestic, but it would be weird to watch a reaction of it without also reacting to Sons of Winter and Stars. By saying it's not "terribly exciting" I meant that since it's "just" an intro, it's just orchestrations so if you're expecting a metal song, you can't find it there. It needs Sons of Winter and Stars alongside with it.
When Time Fades Away is absolutely awesome but it's just an intro to show what level SoWaS is on, musically. One is incomplete without the other and I always have to listen to them both. That said, once they react to LoSaS, they'll probably listen to the entire album again and find the instrumental tracks anyway (also darkness and frost which is muted in the time video)
I don't know why no one have reacted to "when time fade away" from time I album! there is no reaction video on youtube and its unbelievable! that song is a divine masterpiece
the first crowdfunding made about $500K...so it was wildly successful. It's possible that they will hit their $750K ultimate goal with only one more campaign (they originally envisioned 3, but with the success of the first, I think it's a slam dunk). That's pretty much where they're at. I backed the first one...no brainer for me, I get so much pure joy reveling in Jari's & the band's genius that I would consider the $100 I "donated" to be the bargain of a lifetime. Before you move on from this one, please do Battle Against Time. I think it's as epic as anything else on this CD, and it's not one that's been reacted to, as far as I know.
Definately stay with the first album. So many great songs (IMO all of them better than the one song you haven't done from Time I) and incredible solos. Jari really cut back on the solos after the first album which is a shame considering how great they all are :(
I call bullshit on that, Jari managed to put a 1.5minute solo in this 5 minute song (which is crazy when you think about it :D), i think he could have managed to put a little more solos into +10minute songs if he wanted to. Yeah "The Way of the Fire" which they have played live on a few tours and which will be on Time II has a long ass solo. Jari also promised more solos on it after people were surprised to hear so few on Time I.
Okay, well, my point was that not every song needs a solo and obviously from the production, Jari feels the same. This isn't DragonForce, this is WinterSun.
he cut back on the solos in Time 1, because most of the solos are on Time 2 and they were originally supposed to be one album. Time 1 and Time 2 was supposed to be a whole, and the first part is building for the second part.
Beat Conductor If you listen to the live version of The Way of they Fire you know it's going to be their most epic album ever. Lots of guitar solos, trust me.
You should definitely stay for at least one song from this album, the other two song has been quite high-tempo and energetic, so Sleeping Stars would be a great ending for this albus series. It has such a beautiful flow and melody, while remaining quite heavy and simple. One of the best songs from Wintersun in my opinion! :)
They made more with the crowdfunding than they expected, but their country government takes a ton in taxes. So they're planning on doing a second one soonish that should push them over the top for enough for a studio. Also, I recommend you guys stay with this first album until you finish it. Time I is only 5 tracks (two of which are instrumentals) and it's really better if you listen back to back.
Great reaction! ... And touching ;) I still find "Sons.." the best song, and "Lonliness" as number 2. You should check out some stuff of Ensiferum =) Requesting, as always: Finntroll - Nifelvind, and now I do know the father is a fan of folk metal ;)
The Forest Seasons crowdfunding: www.indiegogo.com/projects/wintersun-crowdfunding--3#/ They were originally going to do 3 crowdfundings, but because of the overwhelming support from the fans, they will probably only have to do one more before they can build the studio. Raising THAT much money is such an incredible feet and it just shows how dedicated Wintersun fans are and how much they love the music. Soon we will all be just entranced in euphoria as Jari will be able to push out albums like it's nothing from his own studio with the highest possible production quality and perfection.
It's really nice that you see the Forest Seasons Documentary, it's great and yes, the crowdfunding made about $500K. About the song : Fucking amazing album, amazing song and of course fantastic solo Hope next you listen to Starchild or Battle Against Time.
The crowdfunding lasted from march 1st to may 1st 2017 and they raised 468 k from something like 9000 supporters. Best guess is that a second crowdfunding will do it. The problem is that many people were displeased with what came out of the first campaign and felt that they were deceived (Jari sharing everything on youtube and all that). So this means that we need you guys to save your bucks for the next one because we cannot have them fail! Cheers guys!
Definitely stick to this albums first, my 2 favorties fromt his amazing album are Death and the healing & Battle against time, so you still got some reacting to do before you can move on guys! ;)
Continue doing this album until you've done it in full. You only have 1 song remaining on Time anyways and while it's nice it's imo the weakest on the album considering both Time and Sons of Winter and Stars are masterpieces. Check out Battle Against Time next from this album
I discovered proper heavy metal when I was your son's age. One of the first songs to make my hair stand up and give me goosebumps was Take this Torch by Razor. The intro is just so fuckin heavy metal, I can't describe the awesomeness of it. Dave Carlo, the founder and guitarist from Razor is a riff machine. They're from Guelph, so they're fairly local (I'm also a fellow Torontonian). I think you'll love this one. th-cam.com/video/8N2f1Tzdigo/w-d-xo.html
+Jabrane Amami I think we will go there finish it and then come back to do all of the Wintersun album songs that are left with some live videos sprinkled in there as well.
If you guys want to see Teemu from Wintersun rip through this solo, definitely check out this video: /watch?v=_YBaEyTIOi4 (Teemu Mäntysaari wintermadness giveaway by Troy Grady) Great reaction as always!
How about one of the really epic ones on the album like Starchild or Beautiful Death? Btw The drummer actually came from a grindcore band called Rotten Sound.
+Bendkabruh we will be doing every song on this album but we have one left on Time I so we might just finish that and devote all of our attention to this album.
I've never understood why this song is so special to many. I don't find it any remarkable. It's good but not brilliant. Maybe because of the sound image. I like deeper and more charged feeling and that equals for the big sound. That's why I like more songs like Sons of Winter and Stars and Awaken from the Dark Slumber. When talking about progressive structures you said you like, just wait for Nightwish. You're gonna be surprised. When that will be actually coming? :P
what do you mean? You can barely hear the difference tbh. The audio quality is just overall slightly improved. Go to the "remaster or original video" and see if you can even tell the difference. The remaster is very subtle.
Rebecca Hope When you listen to something hundreds of times, even the smallest of differences makes the other version sound "wrong" if you know what I mean. It doesn't take that much at all. And even when they make the song sound technically better (f.ex. Cradle of Filth's Cruelty album) I still prefer the original. Each to their own I guess.
Exclusive Interview with Jari Mäenpää from Wintersun is now up on TH-cam.

One of the best solo in history so beautiful and complex.. but maybe only guitarists can understand the level of complexity and writing that Jari did on this solo
Simply amazing. Pretty sure even if I never had touched a guitar in my life I would find that thing absolutely epic.
these solos are amazing but not so complex, sweep picking following chords all the way.

1st album, death and the healing, starchild, and battle against time are amazing songs.
winter666madness And Sleeping Stars !
really good songs death and the healing next week
winter666madness Starchild is the best Wintersun song to date.
Beautiful Death too. Love the lyrics.
Still love to see your reaction videos to Wintersun. Checking them all now and then. Always get "Wintersun-hyped". :D

Auringon kai wasnt on this record.. jari used a drum machine... kai him self said that in a interview.. sorry for my bad english
He wasn't on Forest Seasons, but on the other two albums he definitely played the drums, album credits clearly say that.
David Rivas Kai played on this album. The only time a drum machine was used was on Forest Seasons.
I knew you'd love that one! Such a great song
Since you enjoy Loneliness, you're going to love Land of Snow and Sorrow as well. Another beautiful ballad.
Yeah!! Absolutely agree on the solo!! :) It's one of my favourite metal solos of all time.

You know what I call "Wintersun?" Art. They're like the combination of Mozart, Bethoveen, Vivaldi, Bach, Chopin when it comes to metal.
Great video, guys!
