This is a Southeast Asian game Thai people are the best now European and other countries are trying to play hopefully the entire world play this game and not change the game rules we like it the way it was invented original....just like volleyball they change to international rules and it suck they should just keep old school rules nice clean pass and sets and more other things that they have change suck big time

The second guy, the Korean, was still not mastered in the sport seeing from how he landed. He was still landed on his back. See the Malaysians and the Thais, they are the masters of the sport.
Thats a sunback spike thats why he land on his back. The malaysians and thai do is called roll spike thats why they land on their hands and feet.

Thailand is number one in Sepak Takraw. Both Asian Games, SEA Games, World Championships, both team types Individual teams and tournament teams Teams from Thailand are always champions.

The first sepak takraw game recorded in history was in the 15th century, in Malacca. Malacca was the capital city of the Malay Sultanate Empire in South East Asia (recent Malaysia). Usually this game would ended up bloody, with quarrels and fights due to provocations during game time. In that game, the son of Sultan (prince Muhammad, son of Sultan Mansur Syah of Malacca) stabbed the son of minister (Tun Besar, son of prime minister Tun Perak) due to fight after the game.
This game then went throuh evolutions, addition of rule sets and new stuffs. and so it becomes Sepak Takraw as we see today. Made in Malaysia, perfected by Thailand. Hence, the word 'Sepak' (kick in Malay) and Takraw (Thai word).
I have been seeing Thailand , Malaysia, Myanmar play this sport for long time. Check the medal table history in Sea Games and Asian Games. Japan, South Korea and India have just trained this sport. Sepak is Malayu word meaning that kick and Takraw is a Thai word meaning rattan ball or rattan basket.
In 1965 Bangkok was the host of SEAP Games ( the old name of SEA Games) Thailand and Malaysia had agreed that the name should to use 2 words from two languages combing since both nation initially introduced this sport into The Games. So Sepak Takraw means kicking a rattan ball. And this sport had been introduced and obtained into the national sport competition which there were only 4 countries on that time (Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Laos) in the competition as well as it was firstly obtained into Asian Games ( Beijing ) in 25 years later (1990).

reason this is not popular cause not everyone can play/learn it. Sports like basketball or football can be learnt relatively easily and anyone from babies to dying old men can play those sports casually. This game, even conditioned/athletic people will struggle to learn it
But people in South East Asia play this sport as normally as American play basketball.
It can be learnt. It is just not popular because it doesn't have a big investor that can expose this sport to the global stage.
Also most people have a hard time giving this sport a chance probably because of the common misconception that you need to do those crazy high flying spikes and rolling spikes lol but the only one doing the spiking is usually just 1 person, the "killer". The "tekong" (arguably the easiest position for a beginner) starts the serve and the "feeder" usually to the left of the tekong volleys the ball into the air so the killer can execute his finisher. That's how most of us learnt it, play as tekong (the server) with seasoned players in the other 2 position then gradually move up into the feeder and finally the killer if you fancy. That's how it usually goes at amateur levels anyways but on the higher levels it gets crazier ofcourse and during matches it's extremely common to see them re-arrange their position when the time calls for it and just let anybody get the 3rd ball finisher. The high tier players usually excel at the three positions too to better their chances of attacking.

We play this in America lol, I'm from Iowa & we play this here. My background is a Martial Arts Tricker, but ppl do come from soccer though. It's called a roll spike or flash kick gainer in Tricking.
Easy for me because I traing when I kid in school we play for fun with friends In Thailand local football is crowded and it is more difficult to find 22 people to play football but Sepak takraw is used by only 6 people

This sport is played normally and wildly in South East Asia as you guys play basketball dude. We have these courts in schools or communities backyards as you have the basketball courts.
