Pitbull is really a category, not a specific breed. But all of the breeds in that category are predisposed to aggression, no doubt. Their original job was bull and bear baiting, as you said. Pitbulls were crossed with terriers to create a dog that has the mastiff/pitbull's strength, and the terrier's tenacity and ferociousness. Many, many pitbull lines have histories of breeding for aggression, whether for bull baiting or dog fighting. These are usually the dogs you can find in shelters. Like you disscused, predisposition does not necessitate the behavior actually occuring. Our genes are the baseline, and our upbringing and environment push or pull from or towards that to which we're predisposed for. The problem with pitbulls is that they're not easy dogs, and they're not for the first time owner. And when things go wrong, they go *really* wrong. Again, they're as powerful as mastiffs, and as tenacious as terriers. They have a lot of prey drive and high energy. So we have: dogs that are predisposed to aggression + powerful high energy + shelters having an abundance of them and paring them to owners who aren't ready for them yet = danger. Even if you have owners who know what they're doing, that predisposition makes them far more dangerous than your every day German Shepherd. Also, you seem to have taken most of this video out of this article: love-a-bull.org/resources/the-history-of-pit-bulls/. You should probably credit them. I also couldnt verify the claim that American Pitbulls were herding dogs.
@@ellabartal4652 yeh him taking half the information from that page is proof he actually doesn’t know what he’s talking about. That page is full of misinformation
The American Pit bull terrier isn’t an umbrella term, it’s a specific breed bred for an extremely specific purpose of dog fighting, encompassing the strength of larger bull terriers with the agility speed and tentation of a terrier, derived from Bull terriers. There are many dogs bred from the APBT such as the american staffordshire bull terrier, bred to have similar looks of the APBT without the incredible drive and AA of their working counterparts. Other than that ur point is accurate.
@Hannah-kg5cl regardless of its nature the fact still remains that its an artificially bred dog which has many health issues compared to a standard dog, it's no different than the pug in terms of how its existence is painful and any further breeding of pitbulls should be discouraged but also shown compassion towards it for its plight
@Layd36 not really. Pugs have nothing wrong with them when coming from ethical breeders who perform proper OFA testing. Seems like you’re just latching on to the trends without understanding cynology at all yourself. The problem affecting backyard bred pugs is their closed nares contributing to BOAS. It isn’t to do with the snout size, it’s to do with people who only care about making money, not preserving or showcasing the breed in any capacity, breeding shit pugs with closed nares without regard for health. With ethical breeders that doesn’t happen. Pit bulls don’t need to be discouraged from being bred for any reason. That gameness can and is applied to many other purposes in the working dog world. I’m struggling to work out what artificially created problems you’re even thinking they have?
No the breeds your referring to like the American bully and xl bully are mutts not pitbulls and also pitbulls have been around for over a hundred years why all of sudden after the American bully and xl bully were created that their a umbrella/ category when those are two new breeds that haven’t even been around for atleast 50 years 🤔
I am a pibble mommy, and I love pibbles. but unfortunately you can’t make the claim at 17:25 with certainty. Well treated dogs (pitbull or otherwise) can still attack people
Ya... I live in Atlanta and let me tell you this: When I used to go to the dog park with my dog and you would see a pitbull with clipped ears, a clipped tail, and a 5 inch thick spiked collar, that was a sign to GO. My dog was assualted by one at the park and when we confronted the owners they said it was just socializing. Then that same dog attacked 2 other dogs and it ended with the pitbull seriously injuring another dog and FINALLY the owners took the dog and left. I have more than a dozen stories like that and no longer go to dog parks when I see a pitbull OR a Cane Corso. My neighbor has one of those dogs and it almost killed another neighbor's Great Pyrenees in front of me. My neighbor is like 5'1" and has NO RIGHT owning a dog like that and at the time of the attack her dog launched her straight into the air when she had "settled him". She looked like a ragdoll. I can still remember the blood dripping from its teeth and those black, souless eyes. I know that it is the owner and not the breed but we then need to require licensing for owners or prevent idiots like my neighbor from owning these killing machines, even if they've become like that due to reckless owners. I have mace on my keychain and dont let my son out in the nighborhood because of that dog... I feel for them and hate that the people buying these dogs are destroying their reputation but I would rather they be banned then be born into a world where they will only see fear and abuse.
Anecdotal evidence and emotional arguments do nothing to change the fact that Pitbulls are statistically more dangerous than any other breed. If you, your child, or your dog are attacked, chances are it will be by a Pitbull. It's naïve to act as though the fact that friendly, passive Pits exist somehow erases this fact. Nurture and discipline definitely play a role, but it's ignorant to pretend there aren't innate qualities in the breed that make them more aggressive and less predictable than other breeds on average.
serious question no one seems to be answering: if it’s the owner and not the dog then why is just anyone allowed to own a pit bull? how are we going to stop the “stigma” when just this past month of november there have been at least 5 pit bull fatalities? how can we be sure that they will be adopted by the right people? it’s weird to me because most reasonable people wouldn’t adopt a dog like a greyhound if they didn’t have the time or space to let it to run around, a greyhound is shaped like a cheetah because it has been bred to run fast. a pitbull is shaped the way it is because of what it was bred for as well but nobody seems to think that a breed that was created for bl**d sports deserve specific consideration when adopting a family dog? like when i had a roommate who had a border collie, their dog would herd my cat all day long and nobody had to teach her to do that. it was bred into her breed for the past 100+ years. i’m just confused, because it seems obvious to me that it would be no different for a pit bull? never would i consider an animal to be evil, an animal cannot fathom good and evil, just its natural instincts. so my serious question is how do we make sure these dogs end up under the right ownership? they’re filling up every dog shelter, they adopt them out to almost anybody. i doubt most people are made aware of the risks, the risks that while yes a chihuahua might be more feisty more often, when a pit bull snaps it is far more dangerous and fatal. so owners should have a plan and watch for signs that their family pet may require some specific training and a watchful eye, but who is making people do that? nobody? pit bull fatalities equate to more than all other dog breed fatalities combined, how do we actually address this?
Your referring to xl bully maulings in this month, xl bullies have pitbull in it but they also have American bulldog, presa canarios, corso and mastiff, so therefore you can’t really call that dog a pitbull it’s really more of a mutt breed but in saying that I agree even though pitbulls are my favorite breed there needs to be a complete ban on the backyard breeding and it should be illegal for a first time owner to get a pitbull or bully breed but most of these pitbull so called attacks aren’t actually done by real pitbulls they tend to happen a lot with American bullies, xl bullies, corso mixes, and etc, there are atleast 10 breeds that look like pitbulls that aren’t 🤷🏽♂️
@ it’s a app called new break the attacks happened in New Yorkshire and police officers warned the owners to train their dogs but for the past 2-3 years all the so called pitbull attacks have been American and xl bullies and you can’t even look that up, there weren’t pitbull attacks until 1980’s and that’s the decade when they created the American bully but instead of calling it by its label they call it a pitbull when in reality it’s a mutt that has multiple power breeds in it 🤦🏽♂️
Two of them were xl bullies, an other 2 were American bulldogs and another was a American bully on a elderly black women, but they all have one thing in common, they came from backyard breeders, it says it on the article but yeah 90% of the attacks were bully breeds 🤦🏽♂️
I have a chocolate lab pitbull-mix. Shes the sweetest thing ever. She never has bit anyone. Anytime we have guests she will run up to them and ask for one thing, pets. All she wants it pets and its so cute!
You outline how they were bred specifically for dog fighting, then go on to claim how the breed is "known for their kindness". Based on your video on Pugs I was hoping for an objective approach and something to challenge my belief, but your view is very biased. And the way you use Stubby is very manipulative, that dog is far from being associated with the general Pitbull breed this video is about.
yeah I feel like all these types of videos skirt around the very obvious fact that an aggressive pit bull will do more damage than an aggressive poodle, we're not idiots so don't try and avoid talking about it
My mate has two amstaffs. Really lovely at home, one was best mates with my cat when young. He got them as pups and always treated them well. But … both would fight other dogs in the park and he got into trouble and ended up having to muzzle them when out. They also killed several cats, mostly strays, that were using his yard as a thoroughfare. It’s a difficult issue
Hi I would like to add my opinion to the topic As far as I am concerned, it is not a matter of genetics or environment, but a combination of both Genetics is not everything but it plays a key role in the behavior of any animal species, it’s what we call instinct, we humans are no different either In the selection of dog breeds, in addition to various shapes and colors we can also notice different behaviors: high prey drive, high tendency to defend territory or an extreme docility for examples And of course aggression, but what kind? The American pit bull terrier has been selected to be docile toward humans, really docile but, at the same time, to be aggressive towards other dogs Unfortunately, while many breeders are attempting to select pit bulls free of intraspecific aggression many “traditionalists” continue to want to maintain it, no comment In this regard “Pitbull” is often misused to describe any molossid dog that vaguely resembles it, even though there is no trace of pit bulls in their genealogy (even a boxer x jack russell mix might be called a pit bull by some) For example, the APT is not big at all; in fact, it is a medium-sized dog that while robust is also quite slender most so-called pit bulls are mutts or the result of backyard breeding, you don't know what's in them, they could have any kind of temperament Now I talked about temperament that has to be considered and has its impact but that remains a very small part And then there is the environment in which they are raised and for that you have already said enough I think I don't have to add much I just want to reiterate that love alone is not enough: Training, socialization, care and a stimulating environment all things that should not be overlooked Oh, by the way 2 just videos in a short time and you are already surpassing 3000 subs, that’s great bro keep it up P.S. Just a little correction, I’m not aware of other european countries (maybe england) but italy didn’t ban pitbulls, Simply the APT is not recognized as a breed and you can't participate in exhibitions and stuff like that, but onestly who cares You can totally have pit bulls both purebred bred by a few fanciers and the thousands waiting for a family in shelters I myself have been a dog walker for my neighbor's good girl.
It’s how they’re raised… We could say that about tigers, chimpanzees, bears, hippos, crocodiles, and more. The blatant problem is the capacity for violence and innate behavioral challenges that require training to mitigate, not eliminate because any dog in a novel situation may respond in ways you don’t expect. And here’s the real truth, if pitbulls were truly such a desirable breed they wouldn’t be flooding animal shelters. Let’s be honest with ourselves
There is too much ignorance with their rabid supporters to ever attempt reason, and facts. They don't care. They only want to live in their echo chamber, while also being racist, and keep on trying to compare murder mutts to human races, as if it is some kind of 'discrimination' to speak the truth about this breed.
Pitbulls are so desirable because of the not so bright people that view them as a status symbol, a boost to their edgy looks and others. It's a vicious cycle, because these poor animals are going to end up in the animal shelters that you mentioned. With that being said, a family next door has a pitbull and an infant child. That pitbull is everything but that innate behavioral theory you pulled out of your ass.
Thank god someone here has some sense. I get that a bad owner makes the inherited traits worse, but even in a ‘loving home’ they have issues. I have heard so many tragic stories of owners and their friends and family being attacked out of nowhere. (Jaqueline Durand level- look her up if you haven’t heard of her) I’ve heard from so many people that were once major advocates for the breed going back on their previous views, realizing it wasn’t worth the potential risk. (Just like keeping a tiger or lion) I think the problem is beyond a mandated culling or a ban however. I honestly don’t think there is a solution unless the dog owners wake up by themselves..
@@HuheJass Many people also don't know how to have dogs. I've seen many videos of owners pushing their dogs' boundaries, and then wondering why their dog hurt them. Many people have dogs without knowing the basics of dog language and not knowing anything about it, they believe that the dog attacked "out of nowhere"
Easy to claim rates of attaks are lower in other countries considering it's mostly anecdotal. US has great statistics regarding fatal dog maulings for each year. Statistics for most other countries is almost non existent.
Because most other countries are not dumb enough, or sociopathic enough to allow these mutts in the first place, they are banned. And more each day are banning them.
You say they're banned in Malaysia, but I remember distinctly walking my pup back from the park and seeing 2 pit bulls in the alley way. I was scared cause they both had collars on but I didn't see their owner anywhere. So I just picked up my pup and walked away slowly. I think what you say in the video is true, it's an owner issue, not a breed issue. But I can't lie, I was scared for not only my pups life, but also my own.
I can’t help but feel that there needs to be a little more nuance to the discussion around these breeds. They often have a strong prey drive and their protective guarding instinct can lead to physical action that isn’t always warranted. They’re beautiful and powerful dogs, but I think it needs to be emphasized that this breed isn’t for everyone. Just like someone with a sedentary lifestyle living in a studio should not get husky, someone like me (a 5’2” 105lb woman) shouldn’t get a pitt. If a pitt bull spotted a squirrel and took off after it, I am not physically capable of controlling it. I don’t know whether or not the prey drive and resource guarding can be mitigated through socialization with small dogs and other animals at a young age and good training, but I imagine it can. But if we don’t acknowledge these things, owners may not know that it’s necessary. Certain behaviors are characteristic of breeds (and by behaviors I do NOT mean aggression and I do not mean the behaviors will be present in all individuals). Pointers will point and shepherds will herd without ever being trained to do these things. Selective breeding is powerful. I think part of the problem is that many people adopt pitts and pitt mixes from shelters without knowing what it takes to own one and more importantly, what kind of background the dog had. It may be difficult to train out anxious-aggression from an adult dog raised in a cruel home, and with a dog as powerful as a pitt, this could be dangerous for unprepared owners and the people and pets around them. And of course, shelters sometimes deliberately obscure a dog’s breed composition (calling a pitt mix a lab mix) and will reframe challenging behaviors in language so positive that adopters aren’t prepared for behavioral issues. I don’t think it’s fair to chalk it up to cruel owners when the physiology and selective breeding of pitts gives them the potential to do damage on the scale of grievous to lethal. Which doesn’t mean they’re evil. I think it’s like sharks. No, sharks do not want to eat humans. Yes, it’s true that sometimes great whites bite out of curiosity like explorative toddlers. But the tendency to bite out of curiosity coupled with immensely powerful jaws means that we needs to treat the great white with respect and admiration. I’m speaking as someone whose PhD advisors own a pitt mix they bring to the lab every day and I love him dearly. He’s a gentle, mellow, non-reactive dog with zero food motivation, resource guarding, and prey drive. I’ve also been chased down and nearly bitten as a child by a pitt who lived in a loving, happy home! I just so happened to cross into the yard to retrieve a toy which triggered the dog’s guard instinct. A good dog trying to protect her home, not realizing I wasn’t a threat. The owner was nearby and was able to intervene, and he was bitten pretty badly in the process. They put up a fence after that, and all was well and I had many positive interactions with the same dog following the incident. I’m sorry this comment is so long-I feel very strongly about encouraging people to admire and respect the breed and I think making sure potential owners have a very clear picture of what tendencies to watch out for (ESPECIALLY in shelter dogs with uncertain backgrounds) is a critical step in repairing the public’s relationship with the breed. If you take the time to read this all, I’d love to hear what you think!
Whichever dog breed is the most popular attack dog will be the one with the most fatal attacks. Training Pit Bulls to attack humans is animal abuse and needs to be outlawed. I purposely got my Pit Bulls from a strain known for being gentle with small children and none of them were human-aggressive. That Sports Illustrated issue promoted the misuse of Pit Bulls as attack dogs. The Humane Society of the United States is the primary promoter of attack-training Pit Bulls and using them as fighting tools, because the HSUS profits off animal abuse.
@@KanaevM The American Pitbull Terrier are exactly the same they just need massive amounts of attention and love and fun training good discipline not abuse leave the tail and ears they look even better if not intended for breeding de-sex them calms them down especially males a lot of regular exercise and watch how beautiful calm well behaved and obedient and yes the protection and love they give back from my experience Frank my red nose was a angel if those who hat APBT’s met Frank I swear they’d change there minds in a flash
I stopped watching the video when Cane Corsos and Tank the American Bully were used as clips of "pit bulls". The cherry on top was calling them nanny dogs. They were fighting dogs through and through. It was their purpose, and the dogs that were too big to fight were used as hog dogs. Pit bulls aren't naturally aggressive solely because of their history. A true game bred pit bull will tear up another dog, but a fighting dog that attacked people wouldn't be too useful in the pit. They make great hog dogs, though, which is what true pit bulls are used for a lot now, but I don't think you or many others here have ever seen a purebred game bred pit bull. Don't believe they were like this? Read Thirty Years With Fighting Dogs by George Armitage. Also, I don't support dog fighting, but know your breeds, man. You're no better than those persecuting them.
A pit bull is a branched term for both well and bad bred dogs, in getting a dog under this branch you need to understand 1, the possibility of getting a reactive dog is high. Considering most of the breeds development, you cannot ignore the fact that this breed has been bred to fight, nip, bull bait etc. many akc breeders that have bred for the breeds betterment, but almost all good and ethical breeders with consider this issue when selling a puppy, most breeders keep their dogs separated and knows the risk of dog aggression. This is a working dog, not a nanny dog, all dogs can be sweet and nice, but never underestimate them. 2. Badly bred dogs will be predisposed to this behaviour in a higher rate. If your pit bull is badly bred, the chance of having these genetics are higher, as the breeder is not breeding them to decrease these genetic, rather looks and for sale. This is also probably why many end up in shelter due to bad breeding making them unfit for most owners. 3. Again, don’t ignore genetics. We all agree that a border collie will herd sheep and a Labrador will retrieve, then we also should believe that pit bull terriers will have these genetics to fight and will be predisposed to aggression like behaviour, they will in fact practice what they have been bred to, you might have a good dog, but never throw shade over how a breed really is. It is also important to take into consideration that you lack giving your dog an outlet to let out their genetics, and I am not meaning dog fighting, but read up on the breed and find something that will fit for your dog! Some breeds aren’t as bad when they don’t have their outlet, but pit bulls definitely are bad if they lack an outlet in many cases Your dog might be a sweet loving family dog, but your dog doesn’t represent the breed’s genetics as a whole, yes this is a dog that will and have worked wonderfully as pets, but definitely not a breed for most owners, this is a working breed that will have genetics drive etc just never ignore the obvious signs of how this breed is supposed to be.
You can of course alter how a dog acts, based on how you train them and how their first year is. Also take into consideration that most people don’t know how to properly socialise depending on breed and what to work your dog in, which can lead to these problems or other issues in the dog
Hi, thanks for the video. Here, in Brazil (exactly in Belo Horizonte) people are So scared of dogs. I find it ridiculous many times. Women are lifting their babies acting like they see some kind of terrifying monster. Old ladies are jumping on the cars suddenly (no, I am not exaggerating) or some people are climbing up the trees.. It is so strange to me. I have never ever seen anything like that.
I had cousins who owned 2 pitbulls. One was the sweetest dog I had met up to that point. He needed no leash or reprimands. The other was vicious and violent. Neither had ever been trained... my cousins weren't exactly the sharpest tacks in the box...
Most people in my area live in tiny apartments where they do not exercise their pitbulls or socialize them well. Most get them from shelters because they feel bad for them, or seek them out because they want a powerful dog. Most dogs in my neighborhood are aggressive/fearful shelter dogs. But when you combine that abused background with the power of the pitbull... You have big problems.
I disagree on three fronts 1. It's definitely possible to modify behavior through genetic selection. We go from wolves to here in 15000 years only. Pugs are a living example of how much we can breed a dog physically. Pitbulls were bred for aggressiveness, a trait that we no longer desire. 2. You only provide anecdotal evidence. That is not a good basis for decision-making. 3. This is a human society. That a small (but not insignificant) percentage of the population fear pitbulls is enough to place controls over their adoption. We make species go extinct for much less. Keeping the streets safe to walk for everyone is much more important than preserving the right to own a particular breed of dog. I do agree with you, that most pitbull attacks are to a great extent the owners' fault. But assuming owners aren't perfect for all breeds of dogs, the fact that it's the pitbull that attacks more often is telling of their genetic predispositions.
The American pit bull terrier became an established breed in 1898 and was the first breed recognized by the UKC. The ADBA is the leading authority when it comes to the American pit bull terrier hairatge conformation standard and has recognized the breed since 1909. The AKC has recognized the American Staffordshire Terrier, originally titled Staffordshire Terrier, since 1936. 50 UKC registered American pit bull terriers were selected to be retitled by the AKC. Those 50 dogs were then registered with the AKC under the breed title Staffordshire Terrier. ADBA American pit bull terriers and AKC American Staffordshire Terriers are not the same. They are two separate breeds and are bred to different standards, with each having bloodlines unique to their breed. The American pit bull terrier is the foundation of the American Staffordshire Terrier. Selective breeding has produced two separate breeds. Wisdom Panel claims that they have the ability to determine whether a dog is an American pit bull terrier or an American Staffordshire Terrier. You can't talk about breed genetics and how a breed has been bred in a way that has genetically predisposed yada, yada, yada. When you use the umbrella term pitbull. American pit bull terriers are purebred dogs. Many dogs that aren't American pit bull terriers are labeled pitbulls. You have no clue what you are talking about. A dog that displays aggression towards other dogs is no more likely to display aggression towards people than a dog that doesn't display aggression towards other dogs. Dog aggression isn't human aggression. American pit bull terriers were never bred for bull/bare baiting, as those practices were outlawed long before the American pit bull terrier was established. The extinct Old English bulldog, as well as Bull & Terrier type dogs, were used for those purposes. American pit bull terriers were bred for dogfighting. Bull/Bare baiting and dogfighting don't involve human biting. Protection work/sports, Involve biting people. I don't care how dangerous you imagine my dogs are because are they really posing a threat to you or anyone else, no. Your safety equals my freedom. I value my freedom more than I do your safety. I would feel terrible if my dog hurt someone, and I would take full responsibility and expect to be held accountable. My dogs aren't a danger to my community. They are friendly, well cared for, and securely kept where they belong. Dogs are considered tangible property. Whatever other people choose to do with theirs has nothing to do with me and mine. My dogs have plenty of desirable qualities, just like my boots. My dogs are suited to fit my needs, just like my boots fit my feet. You might live a lifestyle in which your feet have no need for boots, and you'd be just fine without them. However, you might still own a pair of boots you don't need. American pit bull terrier breed as a whole (purebred American pit bull terriers) are healthy, mentally stable, eager to please, willing to work, have a friendly disposition, physically durable trainable/intelligent, adaptable dogs. American pit bull terriers aren't poorly bred they have far fewer health issues than many other breeds. They typically have a friendly disposition and are more accepting of strangers and warm up to new people faster than other type of dogs. A dog's genetics do have a lot to do with how they are. American pit bull terriers are high-energy, prey driven dogs that, more often than not, display some level of dog aggression and don't do well with other animals. They aren't genetically overprotective or weary of strangers, compared with breeds such as the Fila Brasileiro of Cane Corso or Doberman. Your feet might not require boots, and an American pit bull terrier might not fit your lifestyle. But my feet are safer in boots, and my lifestyle is that which an American pit bull terrier fits in just right.
@@thedoginspectorbro that Dog is the ONLY one that attacks humans the MOST then any dog i hear. They are Killers and breed to do that. And thats why they should be banned. So many graphic accidents with those dogs
I think you did a great job on this video. I really had hope for this video. Unfortunately you ended with the 'it's all how they're raised' BS. This may be true for pits, and they're wonderful dogs, till they're not. You cannot love or train away genetics. I don't care what you say. Why didn't you cover all the countless people and pit owners in detail that was mauled by their own lovingly raised pits? Instead you ended with something from the dodo, a sob story about the pit hearing the old lady and although this may be true, I would have appreciated this video more if you interview the Bennards, or Ian price's family. And if you don't know who these people are, go do more research. And by the way, I grew up with a wonderful pit. He was an amazing dog. But I'm not blind to just because my putty was nice, they're all angels. Pits are not family pets. There's a reason they're being banned in a lot of countries. I can say a lot more, but I'm tired. Tired of entitled pit owners who put everyone at risk because their cuddle bug won't hurt a fly....
Wow, in the end I don't know if you liked the video or not after reading the whole comment. The truth is that from my perspective and according to the studies I have been able to verify, around 20% of the behavior of Pitbulls comes from their genetics. That is why I wanted to close the script in that way. Because really if these activities were not promulgated for these dogs, perhaps this video would not exist. It is true that there are dogs that have gone crazy, yes. But it also happens with other breeds and they have not been so incredibly preyed upon, unlike what happens with Pitbulls. Perhaps their physical appearance has much more to do with it than we think...
@thedoginspector I do like your video. You did a great job with your research and everything, but.. Unfortunately almost everything out there is basically nanny dog BS. The pitbul issue is highly controversial and this is why if you really, really want the true facts, you have to dig a lot deeper. Just do a simple search and see how pit puppies play with their siblings. I'll let you decide if that's normal puppy play behavior. Or best yet, go watch the fifth estate's documentary on pitbulls. And also another TH-camr called Raleigh Link on why she cannot support pit ownership anymore. You must think I absolutely hate pits, but I don't. I specifically want them banned because I believe it would be the kindest thing for these dogs to not exist anymore. Why are the shelters overflowing with them? Because they're owned for all the wrong reasons. I really hope that they'll be banned one day. So they don't have to suffer under the hands of humans that created them. That pit mauling a baby is just doing what it was bred to do by humans. And now we're sitting with the results. And it's nothing to be proud of.
Problem is, I believe the dog is extremely strong and agile. I guess, just as how we don’t let people to have leopard, we don’t let people to have this dog too. as you said “education for the owners” would be good but simply banning the dog is cheaper and easier solution You could say why don’t we ban the German Shepard, well other strong dogs are not the favorite of the criminals I guess. So less danger
I grew up with pitbulls from a very early age and never have I ever been attacked by them or any other dog for that matter. People need to understand that dogs are closer to a child than a toy... they need care, training and attention.
and for the next video, please find me the occurances of other non pitbull attacks on human children that ended in child's death and let's compare it yo he instances of pitts doing the same lets have a statistic comparison then we'll talk who's misunderstanding here
Well, even if the owner was the only reason. That is still a very good reason! If this breed is prefered because they look menacing, and those owners love that their dog evokes fear in others, and copled with their build, that is a very good reason to ban that specific breed. Education wouldn't stop those people from buying those dogs and making them agressive! If they'd chosen the german Sheppard I'm sure they'd have banned that one too!

Hm, no mention of how and why reports about pitbull attacks are more frequent and dramatic because of the amount of damage a Pit can do compared to say a Chihuaha or Dachs attack?? If a Pit attacks, you lose a limb or a face, might potentially die, just because of their power and force of bite. If a small dog attacks, which might even happen much more often statistically (I don't have data), there are no consequences, so there is no news story. Missed thisfor a balanced video.
I am one of the rare people who needed 13 stitches after a chihuahua attack! But I lived through it, albeit very angry at the little dog's owner whose strange way of treating her treasure led to the attack. I love big dogs, had two boxers and a mutt - collie Staffie Pitbull Rhodesian Ridgeback and Lab mix and none of them were aggressive - but if any of them were, they could inflict much more damage than the most neurotic chihuahua
You should show us the statistics that proves Pittbull is safe dog. I believe there are many statistics that indicate that breed provokes many incidents every year.
@@eduardostapenko6808 No. It's genetics. It has nothing to do with the owner. Loving owners have dogs that attack, and kill. You people know zero about how genetics work, and that all dogs were bred for WORK. And in the case of PBs, that means they were bred to kill. It's that simple. Retrievers retrieve. Pointers point. Herders herd. Predators kill. I'm sorry way too many of you lack basic intelligence, and morality. Dogs are also NOT people. So whatever applies to people, cannot be used to try to say it's 'discrimination' against a dog. Dogs are breeds, not races. You cannot be 'discriminatory' to an animal. They don't have human rights. Comparing them to people is offensive. Dogs are also incredibly stupid, contrary to popular myth. They evolved to eat feces, and all they care about is food.
i absolutely love dogs and your channel in my recommendations is an amazing gift. my uncle had pitbulls 20 years ago and loved them, even had a tattoo on his back. this breed is indeed one of the most loyal to the human being. your uploadings about Pugs and Pitbulls made my day. good luck on your journey with the channel man!
Great discovery today! I really dig your videos here, keep up the good work. The history of humans and dogs is so fascinating. Maybe two breeds I’d love for you to investigate next 😊 Dachshunds and Jack Russel terriers. Greetings from Berlin
❤❤❤❤thanks for sharing those lessons in that good way hope people get enlightened their mind after seeing your video hope our world learns how to update things about pitbull dogs instead of banning them ❤❤❤❤
If you think pibulls are only influenced by their environment, how they are raised and handled then unfortunately it shows you do NOT understand dogs. They were bred for a specific purpose, one that does not need to be trained this is what selective breeding actually is. Posting cute pictures and making videos in a belief that this will prove how safe they are just shows the level of ignorance when it comes to those promoting these dogs as something they are not. Generations of inbreeding and breeding from dogs that displayed unnatural behaviours such as ignoring other dogs appeasement signals and continuing to attack despite suffering serious injury to themselves has created unstable dangerous dogs. Ones totally unsuitable to be kept as pets. Some have attempted to breed these dangerous traits out but unfortunataly others have done the complete opposite. Those people are the reason these dogs and many who come into contact with them suffer. It will take many generations to fix this problem, in the meantime many with these dogs literally have ticking time bombs. And no the dogs are not to blame they are doing exactly what they have been bred to do, it is the owners who are responsible along with the breeders and the pitbull properganda machine which includes many rescues promoting these dogs as your average all round pet. If you love dogs then don't be part of their suffering ❤
Exactly! Pugs are a living example of how far we can take physical alterations via breeding. Positing that we can't do the same with behavioral modifications is naive.
@@lucyanderson9064 I don't blame the dogs they are doing what is natural to them. It is the same as blaming a retriever because its instincts are telling it to fetch something. Unfortunately the whole breeding of dogs with a desire to fight reveals a very ugly side to humanity that still exists in some places.
I really love the editing and I appreciate the work put into these videos, I am not a dog enthusiast and I still found it very enjoyable. Just one comment, It'd be better if you stop using Ai generated images in your videos :)
My uncle has a pitbull and she would never hurt a fly. but every dog is different, I hope this helps. it's just because of dog fighting! She would lay next to me when I was a BABY! Never bit anyone. A CAT attacked her, she didn't.
i knew a pitbull named Shtrudel. i was not aware of agression at that age, so we were so much friends, even better than with some other presumably less agressive dogs. also he was very attached to his owner, to a point where he screamed when she went away.
I don't have a pitbull, but i have a Rottweiler abd they are hated too. But i don't think it's because of the breed it's the way you treat them my Rottweiler's name is Rocco and he isn't trained but i raised him with love and care that's why he's a sweetheart
I agree, it depends on upbringing, sames apply to people as well. I had a few Staffies (english ones - staffordsire bullteriers), they don't look intimidating or dangerous to most people, but there is also some prejudice toward them (maybe trough simmilarity with other bull breeds). Both of them, and also bunch of other staffies i know are just sweet, friendly (sometimes too friendly) dogs. I would not trust them to guard my house.. they would want to play with the thief and forget about everything else.
@thedoginspector, I appreciate you not using an AI voice at least. You have a genuine warmth when you speak that makes the robo-pictures seem all the more unnatural. Anyhow, thanks for doing these pups justice (one of my family's 3 dogs is a pittie, total creampuff.)
First.. just subscribed to you watched your first video and was craving for more 😊 also really needed the pit bull video as I’ve been starting to become a little stereotypical about them
To where I live pitbuls used as attack dogs they torture animal so animal to be cruel. I sadly fear when I see Pitbull in place I live but I love the breed I want to own one one day. But If you lived in my place my city (Istanbul) they use pitbull for bullying.
I have 12 mixed dogs, from small to big, from calm to energetic, many of them were abused in the streets. I will never had a pitbull, no matter how many times people says "is the owner" and show me dumb tiktok videos about pits being cute. I'm not going to ever put my dogs in that potential deadly danger, ignore statistics, physical differences and behavioral patterns. I don't hate them, but I hope the breed goes extinct and people stop breeding them, same with chihuahuas, pugs, bulldogs and other completely flawed breeds.
Bulldogs are currently lost but people are breeding healthy retro pugs ( they outcross). Chihuahuas don't belong on the list. They are one of the healthiest breeds, little threat because of size, and readily respond to appropriate care .
This video is incredibly misinformative. American Pit bull terriers are incredibly powerful and driven dogs developed for the sole purpose of dog fighting. They were never Nanny dogs. Most of the dogs shown in this video and spoken about are bull breed mixes, not APBTs, who when temperament and drive are not carefully bred for, can create conflicting drives and produce many biting dogs. Misinformation like this is incredibly dangerous as it downplays the very important role genetics play in a dogs life. You wouldn’t deny a border collies herding instinct, so why deny a pit bulls just as designed animal aggression instinct. A true APBT does not show blind aggression, and are incredibly eager to please and friendly dogs towards humans, however they do have insane prey drive for other animals and dogs.
@@thedoginspectorSorry to burst your bubble but the world isn’t perfect. It doesn’t matter how well you train a pitbull. They will rip your kids face off they are genetically inclined to bite
I used to have a pitbull named Shay. She was one of the sweetest dogs me and my family ever own. One day, she got out of the backyard, but she stayed on the front porch till a lady got scared and called the cops. She showed no aggression at all but was still taken away. She lived with my papa till she was 13. I still missed her, but i know she is resting. Now, we have a pitbull mix cane corso name Zeus. By far the biggest sweet pea ❤
Loving these videos educating us all. We need to shine a light on 'elwood's organic dog meat' that's is literally killing dogs for profit. Absolutely disgusting!
Staffordshire bull terrier is considered the nanny dog. Here's my thoughts on bully breeds. They are more genetically geared towards violence as it was bred to do a bloody job. However, I feel unless there is a medical reason that prevents otherwise a dog can be well behaved with a responsible owner and responsible behavior around all dogs.
Your videos are awesome. This channel can grow to insanity. Make a video maybe on the different breeds of dogs and how/why people who want to be dog owners for the very first time in their life should go about their choice. Cheers!
@@TheWolfspirit22 The only thing where the owner accusation is valid, is the fact that anyone psycho enough to own a PB in the first place, is obviously an unfit human.
Well treated dogs (pitbull or otherwise) can still attack people
this account has 3 whole videos, underrated as hell, and is already better than most yt channels

It could have lashed out because it’s ears and tail are clipped and it’s very traumatic and painful
@ sorry can you please provide me with a reference about this month’s pit bull fatalities only being committed by XL breeds? how do you know that?
@@makaiperry can you please provide me with that article you just mentioned?
I have a chocolate lab pitbull-mix. Shes the sweetest thing ever. She never has bit anyone. Anytime we have guests she will run up to them and ask for one thing, pets. All she wants it pets and its so cute!
You outline how they were bred specifically for dog fighting, then go on to claim how the breed is "known for their kindness". Based on your video on Pugs I was hoping for an objective approach and something to challenge my belief, but your view is very biased.
And the way you use Stubby is very manipulative, that dog is far from being associated with the general Pitbull breed this video is about.
@@TheMchef have you ever met an actual pit?
yeah I feel like all these types of videos skirt around the very obvious fact that an aggressive pit bull will do more damage than an aggressive poodle, we're not idiots so don't try and avoid talking about it
My mate has two amstaffs.
Hi
I would like to add my opinion to the topic
As far as I am concerned, it is not a matter of genetics or environment, but a combination of both
Genetics is not everything but it plays a key role in the behavior of any animal species, it’s what we call instinct, we humans are no different either
In the selection of dog breeds, in addition to various shapes and colors we can also notice different behaviors: high prey drive, high tendency to defend territory or an extreme docility for examples
And of course aggression, but what kind?
The American pit bull terrier has been selected to be docile toward humans, really docile
but, at the same time, to be aggressive towards other dogs
Unfortunately, while many breeders are attempting to select pit bulls free of intraspecific aggression many “traditionalists” continue to want to maintain it, no comment
In this regard “Pitbull” is often misused to describe any molossid dog that vaguely resembles it, even though there is no trace of pit bulls in their genealogy (even a boxer x jack russell mix might be called a pit bull by some)
For example, the APT is not big at all; in fact, it is a medium-sized dog that while robust is also quite slender
most so-called pit bulls are mutts or the result of backyard breeding, you don't know what's in them, they could have any kind of temperament
Now I talked about temperament that has to be considered and has its impact but that remains a very small part
And then there is the environment in which they are raised and for that you have already said enough I think I don't have to add much
I just want to reiterate that love alone is not enough: Training, socialization, care and a stimulating environment all things that should not be overlooked
Oh, by the way 2 just videos in a short time and you are already surpassing 3000 subs, that’s great bro keep it up
P.S.
Just a little correction, I’m not aware of other european countries (maybe england) but italy didn’t ban pitbulls,
Simply the APT is not recognized as a breed and you can't participate in exhibitions and stuff like that, but onestly who cares
You can totally have pit bulls both purebred bred by a few fanciers and the thousands waiting for a family in shelters
I myself have been a dog walker for my neighbor's good girl.
It’s how they’re raised…
We could say that about tigers, chimpanzees, bears, hippos, crocodiles, and more.
(Jaqueline Durand level- look her up if you haven’t heard of her)
I’ve heard from so many people that were once major advocates for the breed going back on their previous views, realizing it wasn’t worth the potential risk. (Just like keeping a tiger or lion)
I think the problem is beyond a mandated culling or a ban however.
This argument would work if there wasn't a major difference between domesticated Dogs and wild animals LOL are you perhaps stupid ?
Easy to claim rates of attaks are lower in other countries considering it's mostly anecdotal. US has great statistics regarding fatal dog maulings for each year. Statistics for most other countries is almost non existent.
Because most other countries are not dumb enough, or sociopathic enough to allow these mutts in the first place, they are banned. And more each day are banning them.
True. In my country if a dog attacked me I wouldn’t even go to the police unless owner making a problem during our discussion about the incident.
Never had a Pitbull, but owned two AmStaffs. The most loyal dogs in my life.
A pit bull is a branched term for both well and bad bred dogs, in getting a dog under this branch you need to understand
1, the possibility of getting a reactive dog is high.
Some breeds aren’t as bad when they don’t have their outlet, but pit bulls definitely are bad if they lack an outlet in many cases
Your dog might be a sweet loving family dog, but your dog doesn’t represent the breed’s genetics as a whole, yes this is a dog that will and have worked wonderfully as pets, but definitely not a breed for most owners, this is a working breed that will have genetics drive etc just never ignore the obvious signs of how this breed is supposed to be.
You can of course alter how a dog acts, based on how you train them and how their first year is. Also take into consideration that most people don’t know how to properly socialise depending on breed and what to work your dog in, which can lead to these problems or other issues in the dog
There is no such thing as a bad dog. Sometimes, there are good dogs that have been corrupted by bad humans.
Oh wow!
I disagree on three fronts
No, we don’t only provide anecdotal evidence. We analyze everything in general with scientific studies too
The American pit bull terrier became an established breed in 1898 and was the first breed recognized by the UKC.
Protection work/sports,
Involve biting people.
Discovered you channel earlier today and I'm so excited to see your future videos ! Any plan on talking about Dobermans yet ?
Yes!! We will :)
Cmon man, chat gpt.....
Problem is, I believe the dog is extremely strong and agile. I guess, just as how we don’t let people to have leopard, we don’t let people to have this dog too. as you said “education for the owners” would be good but simply banning the dog is cheaper and easier solution
You could say why don’t we ban the German Shepard, well other strong dogs are not the favorite of the criminals I guess. So less danger
I once met a Pitbull (or pitbull mix) who was actually nice, and she was allowed at CTECH’s animal science program
Her name was Nina
We need to try our best to restore how our founding fathers saw this breed
I really want a Pitbull now.
i'd love to see a video on mutts and the patterns we find among them. do you know anything about it? great videos btw :)
Can you credit your sources? I want to look up the research papers you cited but it’s hard without a works cited / links
I grew up with pitbulls from a very early age and never have I ever been attacked by them or any other dog for that matter.
People need to understand that dogs are closer to a child than a toy... they need care, training and attention.
and for the next video, please find me the occurances of other non pitbull attacks on human children that ended in child's death and let's compare it yo he instances of pitts doing the same lets have a statistic comparison then we'll talk who's misunderstanding here
This idiot quoted the fake nanny dog story. He's not interested in having objective conversation.
Pit bulls are forced into dog fighting and also I was growled at by a golden retriever and people say they’re the nicest dog breed
I just thought they had more testosterone
Well, even if the owner was the only reason. That is still a very good reason! If this breed is prefered because they look menacing, and those owners love that their dog evokes fear in others, and copled with their build, that is a very good reason to ban that specific breed. Education wouldn't stop those people from buying those dogs and making them agressive! If they'd chosen the german Sheppard I'm sure they'd have banned that one too!

These dogs were bred for violence.
even with this video there’s still people like this
Did you know dogs can have autism my neighbors pitbull has autism and waddles instead of walks no leg condition or anything but he is just the cutest.
I believe there are many statistics that indicate that breed provokes many incidents every year.
that is just the way the owner treats the dog.
@@eduardostapenko6808 lol totally FALSE.
@@lucyanderson9064 it really depends on how owner treats the dog.

Don't blame the dog, blame the owner
Agreed
No blame the breeder
No. blame the dog. Pitbulls are unironically demons that should not exist.
To me, the real worst breed would be the* Chihuahua due to the worst owners own them, and crappy dog personality.
Exactly
❤❤❤❤thanks for sharing those lessons in that good way hope people get enlightened their mind after seeing your video hope our world learns how to update things about pitbull dogs instead of banning them ❤❤❤❤
My pleasure 😊
I really think pitbulls should be in the us. The pictures i see when those dogs rip the face of there owners its crazy! But yea banned them
I think I see pitbulls in a new light now so thanks for that ❤ they are really cute ouo
Originally, all pure breeds from Pit Bull family have never been bred to be human aggression.
now I need a video about people's _loved_ small dog breed: Chihuahuas...
True, but there is no reason why we shouldn't blame the dogs also. Why do you even care? If they are dangerous, then remove them from the planet.
@@lucyanderson9064
I don't blame the dogs they are doing what is natural to them.

Please make a Video on Dogue de bordeaux Too…
I dont hate him😢
For sure, this fits perfectly into the shark of dogs.
Just like Bryson said "there are no bad dogs, only bad owners"
I totally disagree
@@thedoginspectorSorry to burst your bubble but the world isn’t perfect. It doesn’t matter how well you train a pitbull. They will rip your kids face off they are genetically inclined to bite
