Most paleontologists are agreed that liopleurodon was probably a good deal smaller than it was portrayed in this series; even if the lower estimates are more accurate it must still have been a formidable hunter, and a man would have made a tasty snack for it had there been any men around at the time which, of course, there weren't . And when dealing with the subject of prehistoric life there is, inevitably, a good deal of educated guesswork involved.

Liopleurodon was about the same size as a great white shark-only 1/75th the weight of the WWD depiction.

For some of you who asked if he could've just crawled back into the ocean with his flippers, the lioplerodon is too big and heavy to do that. Just like when a whale may have accidentally stranded itself on the beach, whales are too heavy for that as well. And when they wash up on the shore, the weight of their immense bodies crush both of their lungs, slowly suffocating them. So the lioplerodon was unable to work himself back into the water due to his enormous 150 ton weight, and he slowly suffocated by the hour, until he passed on.

Though the programme does show _Cryptoclidus_ lounging on a beach like a seal, modern scientists doubt that plesiosaurs could do this.

I love the mix of CG, and real life models in this series. It’s quite out of date, even only being a little over 20 years old. Not to mention the CG looks kind of fake, yet it’s quite charming and informative for its time.
Highly encouraged others to give it a watch.

I have to disagree with you in regards of cgi. The WWD cgi still holds up even for today's standards in many shots. Sure there some shots that looks awful. But majority of the scenes. The use of cgi is quite good and still better than most of modern dinosaur documentary today. Except prehistoric planet

Even the actual Liopleurodon (only 2 tons) would be unable to move on land at all; plesiosaurs (which include pliosaurs) simply lack any of the adaptations seals, etc have to retain some mobility on land. They completely ditched the land to become fully aquatic, and were as immobile on land as a whale or a boat would be.

Of course, Prehistoric Planet has better CGI and more up-to-date information, but Walking with Dinosaurs was the audiovisual pinnacle of paleontological documentaries. The epic and dramatic soundtrack, the serious narration, the genuinely beautiful photography. These are qualities that are lacking in the most recent products.

I am about to bash this kaiju Liopleurodon but i decided to watch the entirety of Cruel Seas
And oh my goodness even though it is monster-sized it sure acted like a real animal. Yes the first scene is realistic and it looks tame if we compared it with orcas that literally beach theirselves just to grab a sea lion. The real Liopleurodon, the 25 feet long one, could ambush some dinosaurs on shores if occasion comes like how was it's shown here.
The portrayal of Liopleurodon behavior here is making me forget the size inacuraccies. It didn't act like a monster despite looking as one. They even made a tragic death with it being caught by storm waves, then beached and suffocated from it's weight, like some big whales also end up today.
There are no exaggerated behaviors no silly anthropomorphism or evil guy trope, it's not the Liopleurodon that made cruel seas, *THE SEA ITSELF IS CRUEL*
