- I hitchhike across Tahiti and go spearfishing with a man I met on the side of the road. The images are layered with excerpts from my journal entry that day, I guess spearfishing makes me think of a kissing.
Please note that parrotfish are really good for the reef because they clean the algae off the coral which allows the reefs to flourish and they should not be shot in excess. Parrotfish also are responsible for creating about 70% of the white sand beaches in Hawaii and the Carribbean because they digest coral skeletons and poop out sand :) Another cool fact about them is that many of them can change both gender and color!

First off, Olivia, I LOVED hearing the whale song - it was completely mesmerizing. I thought it was - brave? - maybe alittle naive? - to go off with a complete stranger and make yourself so vulnerable - but then again, that is what gave you this experience you wouldn't otherwise have access to. As to what the spear fisherman said - that he loves his life now better and that it is better - yes, better for him but definitely not the poor parrotfish. I understand the need for $$$, I guess I just don't have much of a heart for killing.......Travel safe -Darcee
You reminded me of an old story of Orca betrayal…
The Orcas ran the whales into a bay,,were men slayed them, the men were supposed to allow the Orcas the tongue, while the men could have the rest. The men violated the agreement. The Orcas herded the whales no more.
Always enjoy your videos, but I have to say on this one you were definitely flexing the film maker muscles!! So many great shots, and well-edited, with just the right amount of poetry.
And of course a good story... nice to see a young man pursuing simplicity and beauty, instead of obsessing over getting off that island and becoming some sort of big shot, or sinking into dissolution.
You have the most unique, amazing videos! I don't know if you tweak the colors but they are so rich and vibrant, always. I think the most colorful string of fish I've seen. The whale sound was such a perfect fit. To the simple life!

I watch your little movies, I love the plot, the beginning, the end. I love them. I marvel at what the brain can do when it is unleashed from banking and insurance and all of the other weights of civilized life. While you are thinking of whales french kissing, I'm thinking of insurance .. INSURANCE ... why is it always insurance? Good fun.
