This was easily the most detailed Naruto game of them all. I’ll never forget when storm 2 released. I was 15.. me and my brother tried clashing for the first time and boy, the level of disappointment was through the roof🤣 I’m 25 now. me and my Brother still cherish the nights spent picking every character to look at all the different clash animations

This game has aged incredibly well, visually speaking. It really did feel like you were playing the anime. I remember being so enamoured with how the character models moved, making it feel like they did in the show. And the giant battles were so fun, I would replay them a multitude of times. Good memories. :D

There were so many mechanics in Storm 1 that made fights a pain in the ass. Every time people wonder why wall fighting or jutsu clashing never made a return, I wonder if they ever even played the game. I always hated how the fight would just stop every time you sent someone flying into a wall or every time you knocked someone down while fighting on a wall. And then there were broken awakenings that would heal you and slow down time around you. And that substitution system was nonsense, too.

Honestly, most of the ultimates in this game were pretty boss... I enjoyed all of the Storm installments, but there was so much thought and love put into Storm 1.

P.s It wasn't visible so it's probably a millisecond early right before Kirin hit. Mid-transformation, probably.

Honestly not surprised they did take most of this stuff out. The amount of tedious work they’d have to go through to put all these details into ninja storm 4 which has over 100 characters would be ridiculous. Especially with all the combinations of teams and stuff.
The Ultimate Ninja Storm series took a lot of inspiration from the original PS2 games. Ultimate Jutsus were always animated away in a different place where the character would do ridiculously complex jutsus with their own music timed well with their attacks. Also, Awakens were a little more unique as it played with character abilities from the anime/manga.
I love hove Kakashi could copy justsus of oponents his fighting in the old ultimate ninja games. It was funny as hell when he used sexy jutsu and we got a female naruto turned to female Kakasi with sharingan and his mask on. Also it was cool how we had 4th hokage and he used his yellow flash teleportation long long LONG before we got any info about Minato and what he can do, like un3 came out in 2005 and had Minato while shippuden started in 2007.
One thing from the first storm game that they changed in later installments is that originally ultimate jutsus didnt freeze time for a split sec. It may be such a minor detail but it allowed you to be much more sneaky with your ultimates like using a support to create smoke or obstruct vision and then using your ultimate catching people off guard. Later on that became completely obsolete due to the game freezing for a split second so they always know what you're doing.
The only thing I dislike in Storm 1 is that they shouldn't have made the story shorter, the forest of the death is barely utilized since the sound trio does not exist in the game and they acually fight three times there (That would be Lee vs them, Sakura vs the three and Inoshikacho vs them). Shino, Chouji and Shikamaru also don't fight in the preliminars because of this. And they shouln't have cut Haku and Zabuza also.
By the way, When i watch this video, i dont know why, it's like i am going back to the year of 2008 when i played this game, this game is very nostalgic i think...

I agree with points 1, 2, and 4. But not 3. It may just be me, but the second half of the game feels like filler. To be honest, I felt that Storm 2 did better in the Story Department. If you are talking about Storm 3 having better presentation then sure I agree. But the way it was paced and how irrelevant Naruto felt until the very end of the game.

You're joking. Storm 4 objectively has the best gameplay. It's smoother, flashier and just overall much more engaging and responsive. 1 - 2 are awfully slow when you're just used to Storm 3, Rev and 4.

(If I remember correctly wall walking was easier because it merely required a stable "not too much, not too little" -output of Chakra, while with water the amount you need changes constantly...)
Storm 4 is not a bad game but here's an issue. The Storm series was always. 1 step forward. 2 steps back. They add a fun new mechanic. They remove a combo and some other thing. They give us a banging story mode fight. They take away some character details. If Storm 4 kept all the little details this game had with all the competitive upgrades it would he the best game in the series. But instead we all have to compare it to this game. Even though I do think that Storm 4 is more fun.
TLDR; Storm 1 was meant for a small group of friends to play and nerd out to their favorite anime characters with an ambitious new game engine. TLDR; Storm 2 on up was meant for a mass community of players(Probably without the aforementioned for Storm 1 friends to play with) who wanted a competitive experience with fast pace fights matchmaking.
Storm 1 really wanted to make you feel like you were IN the world of Naruto, not just a fighting game where everything has to be balanced or standardized. The characters were designed to feel genuine to their source material first, so balancing wasn't so important. But then again, this was also way before the series' infamous power creep due to which the developers now have to deal with characters that ranges from "barely stronger than human" to literal Gods. Even if there is no way something like kid Tenten could possibly win against Itachi, it's still much more likely than Konoha-maru beating Jubii Madara to death... Let alone, Kaguya.
The truth is there were less characters to give this level of attentions and detail in the first game and no one here understands what it takes to make a game like this. Producers must have had to compromise. Although they should have kept all these details.
A lot of you gotta understand that Storm 2 brought not only a way bigger roster but online play as well which meant a lot of things needed to be balanced/removed. It’s not laziness as much as necessity.
Honestly, I was watching these videos a while abck, and it made me start to kinda prefer Storm 1 over the others in certain areas, but like As time’s gone on, I’ve noticed some of the little details in Storm 4 that nobody ever seems to talk about either. The facial expressions at low health? I’ve seen them in Storm 4. The walk fights? I believe they may only be story mode, but they are in Storm 4. Jutsu clashes would be really janky to include in a game with such a big roster with a huge number of jutsu that really can’t “clash.” Look, you can praise the little details of any of the games as much as you want, but don’t just go and call the developers lazy for a few details, when they’ve been trying to program a huge roster of characters on an unknown budget and timeframe. And, I personally find Storm 4 a bit of an easier game to enjoy. That’s just my opinion, though

Stiger Pines I believe what he’s saying is the way the storm games quality went the opposite way games in a series usually do, most of the time the first game of a series is either the worst or the most basic since the first game is supposed to establish the mechanics or basic premise of the game and each game later in the series improves and expands the mechanics. To sum it up, unlike other games with naruto ninja storm the 1st one is the best while the others were a downgrade so basically naruto ninja storm started with a amazing game in the beginning but later sequels failed to deliver.
Because wall fighting wouldn’t work online, you have to consider connection, the way certain moves work on the wall, the camera which was pretty bad etc. Sure it’d be fun, but online wouldn’t make it so because people would probably abuse things as well.
Another detail you didn’t mention in both of these Storm 1 videos is the fact that an ultimate jutsu’s damage varies depending on who you use it against. For instance, characters who are supposed to have great defensive skills, like Gaara and Kimimaro, will get the least damaged by an ultimate, and characters who are supposed to be pain intolerant, like Eight Gates Rock Lee, will get the most damaged by an ultimate.

If you’re gonna comment about someone else’s criticism, how about you’re main argument not be an “oh you can’t do better or you don’t know [insert here]” type answer. You cannot answer criticism of any kind with these types of answers. You point out what good the game does have in its current form or explain why the game doesn’t have the effects like the ones in the video that made the game more unique.
I never noticed that alternate Naruto costume transformation. Man... I kinda forgot how great this game was in 08 as a 13 year old. I remember that summer when the demo came out i played it non stop. Huge leap from ultimate ninja 3 in the US which was my most recent game. Good times
Hot take: things like removing clashes isn’t bad. They’re cool but removing them keeps the pace up, and as much as i love details like these and generally prefer them to be included, they absolutely can be removed without much lost. And issue resource wise with UNS4’s record breaking cast size it’d take lot more to ensure details for, say, every clash with every jutsu for every character. UNS1 has tons of amazing details but 4 is for sheer character variety and how it frankly tells the story better than the actual anime are more than proof enough CC2 was still putting everything they had into the games and went out with a bang. That shinobi striker thing I’m just gonna chalk up to Bandai wanting that esports cash grab money that rightfully failed. Especially when ~~even if Aniplex fucked it up~~ Cc2 went back to UNS style with that demon slayer game.
Ngl If the only Naruto games we got from now on were just remakes of old games (Ultimate Ninja Storm, Clash of Ninja, Path of a Ninja, the Ubisoft games, Uzumaki Chronicles) or continued stories in those series for the rest of the arcs they didn't cover in previous games, I would 100% be ok with it
I really wish they would've have brought back Jutsu Clashes in Ultimate Ninja Storm 4. They should've never taken them out, to begin with. I understand some people are glad due to the fact that it wouldn't be fair if someone had a bad connection when playing online and they got into a clash with someone who has better internet (honestly if your connection is that bad, you probably shouldn't be playing online anyway) but if that's the case then they should've had it only on offline play.

This game actually has the fastest combat system out of all the storm series, all the characters feel slower in later games, and i don't know why they did it like that.
Imagine Storm 4 with these mechanics and aesthetics, it’ll be even better. I kinda understand why no “cinematic” ultimates due to online, but they’ve managed to lengthen Ultimates since Storm 3, so I really was hoping they’d update the ones introduced in Storm 2 and Generations. There’s also a few ultimates in Storm 1 that never returned, like my favorite being Jaraiyas Flame Rasengan. Edit 1: I also was pretty upset when they nerfed the chakra shuriken combos in Generations onward. I understand it was Bc people online used chip damage to whin while the opponent had little health left, but they fixed that in letter entries. Other than the long range characters having all shuriken combos like Deidara or Temari, I would like to see every other character have unique Shuriken combo as they did in the anime and manga, like Sasuke and Itachi using the Shuriken combo or Naruto and Jaraiya using the Shadow windmill shuriken like they did in Storm 1 and 2
This was back when all that CC2 cared about was delivering a damn good single player experience. Mind you I love what they did with storm from 2 onwards, making it more balanced for online play but games with nothing but fanservice in mind always have a special place among the fandom (Tenkaichi 3 for example).

Itachi’s time over animation implies that he used his MS too much and either went blind or bled painfully.

Everyone forgets revelations. I feel like that game was the most important because it removed having all this bullshit on the screen.
Now add the story mode and storm 1 kind of falls apart with only like 3 cutscenes, while the storm 2 cutscenes look insanely good.

Storm 4 objectively has the best gameplay. It's smoother, flashier and just overall much more engaging and responsive. 1 - 2 are awfully slow when you're just used to Storm 3, Rev and 4.

(If I remember correctly wall walking was easier because it merely required a stable "not too much, not too little" -output of Chakra, while with water the amount you need changes constantly...)

Storm 4 is not a bad game but here's an issue.
The Storm series was always.
1 step forward. 2 steps back.
They add a fun new mechanic.
They remove a combo and some other thing.
They give us a banging story mode fight.
They take away some character details.
If Storm 4 kept all the little details this game had with all the competitive upgrades it would he the best game in the series.
But instead we all have to compare it to this game. Even though I do think that Storm 4 is more fun.

Jutsu clashes were the coolest. In the story mode fight where Naruto fights sasuke before he leaves the village I won with a rasengan chidori clash
TLDR; Storm 1 was meant for a small group of friends to play and nerd out to their favorite anime characters with an ambitious new game engine.
TLDR; Storm 2 on up was meant for a mass community of players(Probably without the aforementioned for Storm 1 friends to play with) who wanted a competitive experience with fast pace fights matchmaking.

Goes to show just how much passion and care this game had put into it. I will always love this over some of the newer additions.
Storm 1 really wanted to make you feel like you were IN the world of Naruto, not just a fighting game where everything has to be balanced or standardized. The characters were designed to feel genuine to their source material first, so balancing wasn't so important.
But then again, this was also way before the series' infamous power creep due to which the developers now have to deal with characters that ranges from "barely stronger than human" to literal Gods. Even if there is no way something like kid Tenten could possibly win against Itachi, it's still much more likely than Konoha-maru beating Jubii Madara to death... Let alone, Kaguya.
Honestly this was my favorite game in the storm series. The original ultimate ninja series will forever have a special place in my heart tho 😭♥️
The truth is there were less characters to give this level of attentions and detail in the first game and no one here understands what it takes to make a game like this. Producers must have had to compromise. Although they should have kept all these details.
A lot of you gotta understand that Storm 2 brought not only a way bigger roster but online play as well which meant a lot of things needed to be balanced/removed. It’s not laziness as much as necessity.

As time’s gone on, I’ve noticed some of the little details in Storm 4 that nobody ever seems to talk about either. The facial expressions at low health? I’ve seen them in Storm 4. The walk fights? I believe they may only be story mode, but they are in Storm 4. Jutsu clashes would be really janky to include in a game with such a big roster with a huge number of jutsu that really can’t “clash.” Look, you can praise the little details of any of the games as much as you want, but don’t just go and call the developers lazy for a few details, when they’ve been trying to program a huge roster of characters on an unknown budget and timeframe.
And, I personally find Storm 4 a bit of an easier game to enjoy. That’s just my opinion, though

Stiger Pines I believe what he’s saying is the way the storm games quality went the opposite way games in a series usually do, most of the time the first game of a series is either the worst or the most basic since the first game is supposed to establish the mechanics or basic premise of the game and each game later in the series improves and expands the mechanics. To sum it up, unlike other games with naruto ninja storm the 1st one is the best while the others were a downgrade so basically naruto ninja storm started with a amazing game in the beginning but later sequels failed to deliver.

Because wall fighting wouldn’t work online, you have to consider connection, the way certain moves work on the wall, the camera which was pretty bad etc. Sure it’d be fun, but online wouldn’t make it so because people would probably abuse things as well.
It's a real shame they removed the curse mark in Storm 4...
Another detail you didn’t mention in both of these Storm 1 videos is the fact that an ultimate jutsu’s damage varies depending on who you use it against. For instance, characters who are supposed to have great defensive skills, like Gaara and Kimimaro, will get the least damaged by an ultimate, and characters who are supposed to be pain intolerant, like Eight Gates Rock Lee, will get the most damaged by an ultimate.
The developers of this game got so god damn lazy in the later games.

If you’re gonna comment about someone else’s criticism, how about you’re main argument not be an “oh you can’t do better or you don’t know [insert here]” type answer. You cannot answer criticism of any kind with these types of answers. You point out what good the game does have in its current form or explain why the game doesn’t have the effects like the ones in the video that made the game more unique.

Hot take: things like removing clashes isn’t bad. They’re cool but removing them keeps the pace up, and as much as i love details like these and generally prefer them to be included, they absolutely can be removed without much lost. And issue resource wise with UNS4’s record breaking cast size it’d take lot more to ensure details for, say, every clash with every jutsu for every character. UNS1 has tons of amazing details but 4 is for sheer character variety and how it frankly tells the story better than the actual anime are more than proof enough CC2 was still putting everything they had into the games and went out with a bang.
That shinobi striker thing I’m just gonna chalk up to Bandai wanting that esports cash grab money that rightfully failed. Especially when ~~even if Aniplex fucked it up~~ Cc2 went back to UNS style with that demon slayer game.

I really wish they would've have brought back Jutsu Clashes in Ultimate Ninja Storm 4. They should've never taken them out, to begin with. I understand some people are glad due to the fact that it wouldn't be fair if someone had a bad connection when playing online and they got into a clash with someone who has better internet (honestly if your connection is that bad, you probably shouldn't be playing online anyway) but if that's the case then they should've had it only on offline play.

No, buuutttt, and hear me out, we could have had Rasengan clashing with Chidori/Lightning Blade, any projectile jutsu such as Water Dragon and Fire Ball, Amaterasu clashing with Fire Ball Jutsu, hell, Chidori/Rasengan clashing with the Eight Trigrams, Wood Dragon Jutsu clashing with Water Dragon Jutsu, Ay’s Lariat clashing with Jugo’s Living Wall Fist, must I go on?!? OBVIOUSLY, not all of the Jutsu would have clashed, but they still could have done something with it.

This game actually has the fastest combat system out of all the storm series, all the characters feel slower in later games, and i don't know why they did it like that.

Imagine Storm 4 with these mechanics and aesthetics, it’ll be even better. I kinda understand why no “cinematic” ultimates due to online, but they’ve managed to lengthen Ultimates since Storm 3, so I really was hoping they’d update the ones introduced in Storm 2 and Generations. There’s also a few ultimates in Storm 1 that never returned, like my favorite being Jaraiyas Flame Rasengan.
Edit 1: I also was pretty upset when they nerfed the chakra shuriken combos in Generations onward. I understand it was Bc people online used chip damage to whin while the opponent had little health left, but they fixed that in letter entries. Other than the long range characters having all shuriken combos like Deidara or Temari, I would like to see every other character have unique Shuriken combo as they did in the anime and manga, like Sasuke and Itachi using the Shuriken combo or Naruto and Jaraiya using the Shadow windmill shuriken like they did in Storm 1 and 2
This was back when all that CC2 cared about was delivering a damn good single player experience.
Mind you I love what they did with storm from 2 onwards, making it more balanced for online play but games with nothing but fanservice in mind always have a special place among the fandom (Tenkaichi 3 for example).
