Great drone footage. I only live a mile away and I thought they were going to clear all of the site for housing and some industrial units. They still have a hell of a lot of work to get it ready. Would be ideal for an industrial estate with rail access.
Worked there until it closed in December 2014, worked on the ovens with D team, miss it like mad. Edit: The last oven to be pushed was oven 17 at 2pm think it was 14th December.
Back in the early nineties whilst I was working as a volunteer for the Embsay Railway we lifted some track from here to be relaid at Embsay railway station. As far as I know it’s still there making up the sidings.
I remember it well, I used to work there when Hargreaves had it. A busy, noisy, dirty place. Who got the Unimog? Or was it scrapped. Good video, thanks.
Enjoyed watching ❤

The concrete structure looks identical to an LMS locomotive coaling stage .
What was the building with the 2 huge square intake/chimney things for?
@@crusherbarny It was a fanhouse for Monckton Main Colliery. I've covered this in a separate vlog 👍
@@wetdogFBK oh! Ill give it a watch, i walk next door quite alot, wonder if you can peek down the shaft its self!
where did you get the old Royston map
It's a hobby of mine, old maps and local history books. I trawl charity shops and look online. 👍
😎❤️👍
Is it true the Germans in world war 2 tried to destroy the Monkton pit and the bombs missed and landed near by?
Quite possibly, the coke opens would have been visible from the air.
Remove the C and you have the name of another former cokeworks in the North East, Monkton
