Aspen Plus - Pressure Swing Distillation to Separate Ethanol Water Mixture

  • In this video, we will generate Txy diagram to find the azeotropic composition the binary mixture of ethanol and water at 1 atm. We will recommend the pressure of the high pressure column after analyzing the Txy diagram of the mixture at elevated temperature. Optimized column (i.e., high pressure and low pressure) parameter specifications such as reflux ration and distillate-to-feed ratio were used to obtain high purity ethanol (99.7 mol%) and water (99.5 mol%).

    8:33 ethanol-water mole ratio 20:80
    26:24 mole-frac value ethanol 0.8 water 0.2
    It shouldn't be mole frac 0.2 ethanol and 0.8 water?

      I think it is a mistake in the design problem..because my explanation is based on feed 80:20 EtOH:water..but anyway, the concept is still the same...
