    I love it when you say "Super simpol"... it brings a sense of confidence to those who are learning, like me.... 5 years as web developer but the first time learning how to actually develop for Wordpress :D

      +Juan Bonnett Thank you so much for this amazing comment. It took me almost 7 years before starting to understand and properly use WordPress. So you're way ahead of me :D

    You have a gift for teaching. The pacing is very good. Each video has what seems like just the right amount of information to be useful and not overwhelming.
    You do a very good job in giving useful and succinct explanations about how something works, rather than simply saying to do something and not giving any idea as to why we need to do that.

    i love how you explain the small but important details like why you have to do this or that. You're not giving a man fish but a rod and a lure so we are indepedent.

    Hey mate, just want to let you know that your videos are extremely useful to me and probably a bunch of other people.
    You are going through really good topics, that make sense, through your videos. No waste of time, being unprepared, googling around in your videos, etc.
    I've already created my custom theme when I finished the 6th video, already had enough knowledge to do what I wanted to do, but will continue watching the all of the videos of the series and push that Like button as this is time well spend here, on your channel.
    Thanks a lot for this content!

    (AS OF 2021) post formats menu is located in "Status & Visibility" tab. Keep In Mind you have to complete the theme support using the array with the 3 strings before the "Post Formats" Become Visible! Took me a few to figure that out. Help that helps ;)

    Hi, great series, honestly for someone who is just trying to learn the basics you're the man! One question, is it possible to assign categories the same way as we did the format ? So the template changes based on the category selected, or does it have to be format ?

    • @alecaddd
      @alecaddd  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ziga Krasovec You can do it also with categories, no limitation for that.
      The only problem is that you could have multiple categories per post, and that could create a problem.

    • @ZigaKrasovec
      @ZigaKrasovec 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Alessandro Castellani Thanks :) Although I think I might have come around with a better solution - custom post type; it's a little bit trickier to wrap your head around at first because of all the new customization and slightly different looping system, but it does the job eventually :)

    Hi,
    I am making a one page website. I have sections on a single page. When the user clicks on the menu items, he is scrolled down to the particular section. I want to use different background colours for each section. But I am not able to stretch the div or section to 100% width as they are in other divs in the php file. How can I override all the outer divs and stretch the background colour to 100% width of the screen?
    Thanks.

    Hi Alessandro I will need to replay this tutorial several times for better understanding. But let's say on todays date I could have my Theme choose seasonal content of the year. For example March 20 thru June 20 is Spring content. June 21 thru September 21 I will have Summer content. September 22 thru December 20 is Autumnal content. And December 21 thru March 19 have Winter content?
    Your tutorials are great. Thank you for sharing your experience.

    • @alecaddd
      @alecaddd  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching, not sure if I understand your question properly, but I guess what you're trying to do it's certainly doable.
      Another approach would be to create a custom taxonomy called "Seasons" and assign a post to a specific season. Easier to manage and retrieve.

      @susansilva9347 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alessandro Castellani Thank you so much for your quick response. Sorry for not being a very clear. I want to select a seasonal image based on the systems date- if today's is =>June 1 and =< August 31 I would want to display a beach image and if today's date is => September 1 and =< November 30 display autumn image.
      Thank you for your great video tutorials.

    This is compulsory to create the file function.php for each theme that we have to build because it only just provide the menus and other relations functionalities???
    Or we can have to copy the function.php file from the latest theme that wordpress releases....
    Is this a bad approach or good??

    • @alecaddd
      @alecaddd  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can definitely reuse a previously coded functions.php file, it's not obligatory to start everytime from scratch.

    I have tried everything including just copying your entire functions page in get hub, and reinstalling my word press. I cannot get the post formats menu to show within status and visibility. Everything else is working fine. Was there another change in the location?

    • @riefkymaulana9040
      @riefkymaulana9040 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Add array('aside', 'galery') to 2nd parameter of add_theme_support()
      So the result is :
      add_theme_support('post-formats', array('aside', 'galery')) ;
      Now the format menu will show on "Status & Visibility".

    Hey Alessandro :)
    Is it possible to make it search for a post format inside a folder, or does it only work with a single file? :)

    • @alecaddd
      @alecaddd  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean by "inside a folder"?
      The search functionality can search posts, pages, taxonomies, categories, etc.
      Pretty much any content saved in the database is searchable.

    Hello, Congratulations by your videos, they are really awesome! :)
    How can I use two, or more, css? For instance, if I need another css to page-template1.php, should I specify the second css inside the functions.php and call him from hook wp_head();?
    Thanks and good luck for your projects

    • @alecaddd
      @alecaddd  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can enqueue another CSS in the functions.php page and you can specify an if statement like if( is_page_template( 'your_template.php' ) ) to enqueue it only in that specific page.

      You can enable WordPress suggestions. Go to the "Site" menu button, scroll down to "Site-Specific Code Hints..." and where you see the dropdown menu, select "WordPress" and specify your sub-root folder.
      NOTE: You must have all the WordPress files on your desktop for Dreamweaver to be able to read it. So setup your website on your desktop the way you would on your web server.
      I hope that helps!

      I'm not sure about the integration of different content inside Parallax theme, by default you should be able to include whatever you want into a single page, so it shouldn't be a problem.
      Happy Coding!

    If anybody is watching this and having a hard time finding the "format" box even after checking the Screen Options, I'm not sure if it's because of a change to wordpress but you have to add the array with format type (aside, image, video, etc.) for it to appear now.

  • @Carol-no2tc
    @Carol-no2tc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Regarding post-formats: I have noticed them in ready-made themes before, but have never used them. They seem to be getting a lot of attention though, and seem important. If people just wanted to post images, for example, wouldn't they go to Instagram, or another platform where other people also share mostly just their "images"? On my own blog, I'd always want some amount of text to go with a foto, video, or whatever, and say something. And I can do that with the editor. So I don't really get the point of these post-formats.
    Other than that, I love your tuts. Because they focus on the WP stuff rather than all sorts of distracting styling stuff. Thx!

    • @alecaddd
      @alecaddd  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching.
      Post formats are a way to give developer sand users a proper separation of styling and feature. If you want something more complex for your posts, you don't have to hack it with a bunch of conditions and deal with clean and separated files.
      You're not forced to use them if you don't need them :D
      Cheers

      @Carol-no2tc 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for getting back. Yup, I'll try and see if I can see their usefullness in a while, once I've finished my own blog and worked some more at the front-end. At the moment, I'm working on my first theme (only did child themes before) and the end users of this are team leaders of a research group. They already complained about the post format types in a lab notebook which they found confusing. But thanks for making me curious about them again at a later stage.

    Hi there booty savior. I never learn coding before, I learn just for my own hobby. i face 1 problem, hope u guys can help me on this too.
    I put an image src code like this: , why this image can't display at front page while can be seen at others pages?

    • @alecaddd
      @alecaddd  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +junyong5821 You should always put the absolute path of an image, starting from
      With the relative path that you have now, if you browse the site, your location changes, so the image can't be found anymore.
      Hope it makes sense.

    That one really confused me, ..
    It's now 2019, .. and there is a lot of talk and chatter about (Post Formats) being, .. or has been removed from the WP core. Must confess that the entire topic flummoxed me as my current theme as never had it in.
    - And because I've never had it.
    Then I really can't see the point of why you should want to change how your Blog posts look, and that's despite googling the subject intently.
    There must be a reason why Aside is a function; that's not achievable when laying out your Blog posts with straight forward etc formatting, but I simply can't see it.
    Anyone point me to some sites where Aside and Image are exclusively used, and why embedding videos in standard posts is a bad thing?
    Sorry to be so dense, but I've hit a brick-wall with Post Formats.

    • @alecaddd
      @alecaddd  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No worries, it can be confusing.
      Take a look at this theme for example: demo.wpexplorer.com/magtastico/
      The post loop is only one, but in the list of posts you can see sometimes you have a video, or a quote, or just an image, and the layout of that post is completely different.
      That's what Post Formats are for, using completely different structures without the necessity of polluting your post loop with multiple IF statements.
