This composition has the four qualities that make a sublime organ work. First it is austere; Second it is long ( although there are segments to the work, these are not pronounced and do not take way from its overall unity); Third it is monothematic; Fourth, it contains chromaticsm (although not a chromatic work overall). I can't imagine anyone living to-day having the intellectual capacity to conceive of such a composition; never mind executing such.
