Great video, John. I myself enjoy facsimile covers. In fact, I plan on purchasing both reprints and originals. I’ll more than likely have the originals graded and stored away and the reprints hung on my wall 👍

That is so smart! I also graded most original keys and will re-read the facsimiles. I’m actually more inclined to get affordable coverless books keys when I see them, knowing I can put a beautiful facsimile cover on them. Thanks again for watching and commenting! I really appreciate you!

I really enjoy "Marvel Tales" and would love to hear about the contrast between them and fascmiles. I kind of like "Marvel Tales" because I'm less interested in the ads then the story themselves.

Thanks so much for your comment. I have a few Marvel Tales also. Really great and reasonably priced comics. For the story, you are right, those reprint types of books are definitely best bang for the buck. In saying that, the OCD side of me prefers to have a facsimile so I can file a copy as a placeholder with the actual title. My OCD even gives me issues with “true believer” reprints lol. My burden!

My collection is young. I just started sometime last autumn. Anyways I always see these at my LCS, and being that these are neat and all, I'd prefer the OGs when I can afford them. But there's a lot to be said about having a book not knowing it's value or being able to determine it as it was when I started collecting.

David you are spot ON! We collectors definitely hope we can get the originals/first printings, but so many of them are so out of our price ranges. Even if I was able to afford all of the comics of my dreams, to be honest, I’d rather spend the Money taking my whole family on a cruise or something, the high prices rarely warrant buying the comics, so for the most part, finding reprints or facsimiles (or as in this video, counterfeits) seem to be the way to go. But my friend…trust me…I always hope I somehow find a OG gem in a box I acquire lol…I dream of that!

Are you saying some of the recent facsimiles are exact copies of the originals? How do you define a facsimile vs a counterfeit? Is the later an unauthorized edition?

@@lexluthor8888 I believe the “exact” replicas that we’re discussing are counterfeit, which means Marvel had nothing to do with the printing of them. From what I’ve been reading, those copies were created by somebody with excellent facilities. Professional printing with newsprint pages from images of the originals that are beautiful. However, if marvel did not publish them, I do not consider them facsimiles, I’d consider those counterfeited. I believe if marvel reprinted exact copies, they would notate it somehow. While o do own some counterfeits, if my suspicions are correct, they should hold zero value. They are fakes. But again, from what I’ve read, some people are taking these counterfeits and aging them to sell them as originals, which is very scary. You are spot on, caution absolutely needs to be exercised.

@@Johnthecomicguy This is indeed scary. I am surprised this issue has not received further attention from other You-Tubers or CGC who some us would look to for identifying counterfeits of very expensive books.

Is counterfeiting common? How much do I have to worry about this?

I personally don’t know, and I personally don’t purchase a tremendous amount of super expensive comics, but I’d always advise being very careful- you just never know when a seller is selling counterfeit items, and even they may have been victimized and are selling you a counterfeit unbeknownst to them. I had a viewer comment on Facebook he was scammed a graded copy of Incredible Hulk that was replaced in a slab. So he blight a slab but it was opened and replaced with a counterfeit. Whenever people deal with high dollar amounts, you have some risks from untrustworthy scammers. I’m glad you commented because I wanted to bring this to people’s awareness

Thank you again for your comment and I’ll drop my special Halloween episode this Friday. Be on the look out for your shoutout!

I'd never buy facsimile books. Most of the key issues can be had through reprints for a lot cheaper price. Marvel Essentials was a great line (if you don't mind b&w reprints) for people who were born too late for the Silver Age books to be affordable. I have a decent collection of Silver and Bronze Age Spider-Man (I've got a mostly complete run of ASM from 9 to 441 with annuals, giant-size included) a complete run of Spectacular Spider-Man, Web, Spider-Man, and Marvel Team-Up. If I ever feel the need to complete my Amazing Spider-Man run considering I need issues 1 through 8 I'd be really wary with the advent of these facsimile books. Just my opinion, lots of people enjoy the facsimile books and that's fine too.
