//LYRICS//
Aeroplane fell
Came right through my ceiling
American cheese
On blackened telephone
I called up the office
Said I’m not coming in
They didn’t know my name
I didn’t know my name
Oh please,
(you’re not alone)
Cast light
Over me
(you’re not alone)
This is the city light
Oh please
(you’re not alone)
Cast light
Endlessly
(you’re not alone)
This is the city light
But the money came in
My creature of habit
The centre is missing
I feel like an ambulance
Oh you are a woman
And I am a man
We live in the city
And we do what we can
Oh please,
(you’re not alone)
Cast light
Over me
(you’re not alone)
Yea, this is the city light
Oh please
(you’re not alone)
Cast light
Endlessly
(you’re not alone)
Oh, this is the city light
How can you laugh at it
If you don't know the joke?
Oh please
(you’re not alone)
How hard can this be?
(you’re not alone)
Under the city light
Oh please
(you’re not alone)
Cast light
Over me
Under the city light
I see
Cast light, endlessly

That descending scale at 0:20 is aeolian dominant, and it's my favorite. These guys use it a lot.
thanks for the insight and have a great day :D
Oh
Facts, I love that scale they use it on Metroland is burning too.❤❤
also called mixolydian b6 which to me makes more sense. And to be less precise but easier to comprehend it could also just be called melodic minor of Ab. Beautiful stuff indeed, cheers!
One of their most powerful songs at the moment. The outro is just fucking magnificent.
This album is giving me a very specific kind of nostalgic feeling i cant quite place. Im involuntarily crying
Somehow anytime I check out a new EE album, I get a feeling of nostalgia FOR the album, as if I revisited it after some time, remembering all the tunes from way back when
At this point I think they do some mind controll and implant fake memories🤔
And I'm all here for it
💯
Me too.
I know what you mean.
It feels vaguely 2010s, reminds me of a band called HAWAII from that era
It's 1:20 am listening to this and waving with the rhythm on mine balcony watching beautifull cityscape 🏙 Sarajevo .❤
i miss that city sooo much ❤
Cringe
@@r2dadizubz says the guy, profile picture Jesus with AK-47,says a lot ! Here we say imbecil for ur tipe of mind.
@@meanka_the_mean why u don't come and visit it,I believe u,I was living in Germany 5 yrs, that nostalgia that Sarajevo soul and vibe give ist just something that u feel, need and want to come back.
Long-awaited serotonin reuptake inhibitor in a form of music
Its less ssri more musical HEROIN to me
@@GamesWithBrainzheroin gives you diminishing returns though. Or maybe that was your point?
Probably the most emotional song they have made for me
There is something unique in this band
everyday i grieve over the fact that EE isn't in the american mainstream yet, i think their music is so important and would really rock the people here. they're so clever and musically intelligent, poetically intelligent, and such good communicators and storytellers. when they want to evoke a certain emotional response they are always successful, and are always able to stay authentically unique while doing so.
This deep cut off of the album is one that will be overlooked by many, but is maybe one of my favorite tracks from the band and it belongs in the same company as other great recent songs like "I Don't Live Here Anymore" from War on Drugs, "The Alcott" from The National, and "Megaton Mile" from Local Natives. I'm in my mid-50's and have been listening to music for years and very few modern songs really are able to resonate with me. This is on that short list of songs that still can reach me even at my age. Well done, lads.
Will check the others out. Thanks and love that it resonates with you
I don't think ive listened to a song that has given me as much dopamine as this one just did, every second of it just hits the spot perfectly, how.
I want to listen to this on repeat as much as i want to savour it. i realize inevitably you can only listen to a song so many times before the charm starts to wear off, so im really trying to pace myself with this album and appreciate every listen to maximum potential.
Great comment. Couldn’t agree more
Congratulations gents!
My heart is breaking again. Leviathan killed me. This is even worse. But at least it makes me feel something. Instant classic.
Same here! I thought Leviathan was sooo intense in many ways and now this ❤😭
same here too :)
i do believe that these songs must come from real experience / real life, this cannot be faked
leviathan seemed to come from a place of real pain, city song seems to have some kind of partial resolution but there is still something really sad about it ... an unforgettable song for certain
Ah, so it's not just me then. Have a great day, friend.
Yep, can't listen to this one from the LP on my commute, I start to well up as soon as the 'you're not alone' backing vocals come in. Nobody wants to see a grown man in tears on a train in the UK [or probably anywhere]. Leviathan was the track from Raw Data Feel that did the same to me. The Actor had the same effect on Re-Animator. Can't think of another band's songs that have that effect, without it being about the song reminding me of a particular time or person, EE don't even have to have those personal connections to make me tearful and that's very strange, like a kind of superpower really.
@@anonandonymous6045 Leviathan definitely did come from experience. The music was written by Alex while his wife and in-laws were dealing with the decline and death of his mother-in-law. Jon incorporated lyrics adapted from her eulogy. And Jon has suffered with mental health issues throughout his life, I think; so, his perspective and the feeling he imbues into his song lyrics is coming from something very real inside him. It's worth pointing out, though, that from everything I've seen, as a band they really know how to enjoy themselves, support each other and have fun. They allow the darkness in because they're very grounded and real, but I don't think they allow it to overwhelm them.
Masterpiece of a song, again.
mountainhead is the best album of all time
Fuck Yeah
It's certainly 100x better than Re-Animator. God that album is depressing. But this one is magical. ❤
Now you're making me
Emotional
...literally cried in public to this song. Thank you EE ❤
Jonathan, looove your voice. So unique
So beautiful this song. From production to vocals to lyrical writting! One of those tracks i come across seldom where i wish i wrote and produced it myself! Stunning album guys!
It’s beautiful, and it’s messing with my head.
Real music, I’ve missed you ❤
this is probably the most beautiful visualizer I've ever seen
The problem I have with great music is that it simualtanously makes life worth living whilst it makes me feel so deeply I want to turn away from it, to protect myself from the emotional intensity of being alive
Well put . This song pretty much encapsulates that whole dichotomy for me.
how incredible it is to feel anything at all. the raw intensity of authentic feeling is something the people around us and society at large don't prepare us for. be brave, and let yourself indulge in the sincere and powerful emotion you have the privilege of being born to experience. the world we live in is complicated and mean, but we can be kind to ourselves in a way that no one else can. let yourself be kind, you'll find that emotion is what keeps you alive, and you were born human so that you could experience that. cry, laugh, rage, love, let yourself do those things because those are the things you were built to do, billions of years of growth and change came together to make that possible for you. and what an incredible privilege that is
Saw them in Sheffield on Tuesday, absolutely love them. My favourite band at the moment ❤
How do they sound live? As complex as they do in the studio?
perfect night music
This is just the perfect vibe and so sweetly sung, I'm a massive fan so keep making amazing music love you guys!

I'm torn between being happy to introduce you guys to new people and being sad about you guys not having as big a following as coldplay. Wish you guys reach more ears.

They do indeed continue to deliver the goods. Cheers.
Please schedule some concerts in Italy
After giving the album a week's worth of listens. What's your favourite track off the album? And why is it City Song?
The first song i listened right after the album come out. I knew since when they reveal the title and length of the tracks that this song would be emotional and powerful, and probably the best on the album, and... I was right.
Buddy come over
Аmazing!Congratulations!
Well. The consensus seems to be, if you fall for EE you fall hard. What IS it with these guys? I come for the clever stuff (which is as clever as it gets)but there’s always at least one song on every album that breaks me apart. I’m only just recovering from Leviathan - and now this. …Why? Why? Why! Who are you, EE? The bastard sons of Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush? The Roundhead custodians of the English songbook?
Very special boys.
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG
Remindsme a Warm Healer
Pozdro od Podsiadło

Todo hacen bien loco
Can't stop laughing. We love how ridiculous it is
🟥🔵
American cheese. Artificial as. But not this song. Keep on pasteurizing!
What's the deal with the occult symbolism?
Thought this was a UK band
We switching up bro... Hold tight
Not gonna lie he has a similar voice to sam smith.
Technically not as good as Sam smith yet infinitely better somehow
