    Wow, this is so inspirational. . You have such a succinct way of presentation and so organized n your thoughts. I learned a great deal. I live in Menlo Park, CA, and will start my Protea garden starting in January of 2024. Need to do a mound like yours first because accumulating my plants. Thanks for the video and the experience you shared.

    Proteas love windy areas. - From South Africa. BTW grow some Ericas(Fynbos) alongside the Protea.
    Same fibrous roots, dislikes super phosphates and they enjoy windy breezy areas.

    Appreciate all your videos. I saw you had germinated protea magnifica a few years ago but I couldn't find any follow-up on them. I just germinated about 30 seeds (they're my favorite) following your techniques. As I prepare for next steps just hoping to learn from your experience. Thanks

    I love watching your adventure growing protea. Completely inspired with these plants. Since this video I have been looking for phylica pubescens and I cannot find them in any nursery in Southern California. Not even seeds online! Incredibly rare!. Would love to see an update on it.

    Super impressed you grew so many of those from seed. Did you plant them in gopher baskets?

    thank you so much for posting your lovely protea plants. I live San Jose ,and I have planted protea for two years. I killed one white king protea and two king proteas. The two king proteas were survived in the first years, but suddenly died the second year in spring time. I recently bought 5 king proteas and other 9 varieties of proteas. I am not sure they will survive. I have watched all your videos about your plants and how to make your own protea soil. Thank you again.

      Thanks so much! drainage is the key - but my king proteas seem to grow where the leucospermums couldn't. Drainage doesn't seem as important to them.

    I live in south Africa in the Western Cape where Fynbos is endemic and just grows in the bush.
    I am so glad to see the rest of the world is getting to enjoy these amazing plant.
    Do you get Leucaderon by the name Safari Sunset, Burgundy sunset or winter gold? They add amazing colour to a Fynbos garden when the pincushions and proteas area not in bloom.

      I am so jealous! I've thought about going to SA to see the Fynbos in person. Yes we have those varieties here in the USA... thanks!

    I was so excited to see someone growing protea in Sacramento! We were in Fair oaks and just bought 3+ acres in Orangevale. I am a little obsessed with Grevillea and Leucadendron and now have a couple protea and leucospermum in pots. I am so afraid to plant them in the ground! How do your protea take the summer 110° weather? Do they get some afternoon shade?

    • @growproteas1148
      @growproteas1148  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If possible I would recommend some afternoon shade for leucospermums - but my grevillea and leucadendron have had no problem with full sun or heat - Mounds help leucospermums but aren't needed for the others - there are 2 other protea growers in Sacramento who have contacted me so that is amazing!

    You should try growing Banksia Banksia plagiocarpa with it’s stunning blue flowers and it’s a hardy plant

    I threw some seeds into my herb garden last fall - two rooted and are now 12-15” tall. Should I cut them back (if so, how much?) before trying to pot them? Appreciate all your work on these beautiful plants.

    • @growproteas1148
      @growproteas1148  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      which kind of plant is it? leucospermum?

    • @acroell
      @acroell 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct, I collected seeds from two large plants I have had for 10+ years

    • @growproteas1148
      @growproteas1148  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@acroell I would cut back around 1/3... to encourage branching

    • @acroell
      @acroell 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So cut back before potting? And how long should I wait to pot?

      I don't think they will grow in that humidity... it would be like trying to grow a tropical plant in the desert.
