For me, there's a trade-off between firing at the higher targets that are probably also tossing BVR missiles, and the lower ground targets who are probably gonna try to scoot into a valley or behind a mountain when they see the smoke trails flying toward them. If you're lucky, there won't be much terrain to hide behind for the low and fast targets (with nothing to hide behind if its Sinai lol), and you'll be able to just launch at 50km+, and sit and wait. On the other hand, the higher targets will probably immediately notch+chaff to avoid the incoming BVR-spam (Hell, its what I do in the Tomcat). Another thing I do occasionally is just fly low and fast, then quickly side-climb to lob some at the ensuing dogfight in the middle of the map and try to catch people off-guard lol. Especially with the Fakour-90s, the IRIAF Tomcats can work at a surprisingly close range.
Interesting tactic, normally i like shooting at higher targets to clear out the biggest threats. But hey, it works for you. Nice short video too, earned a sub

@WiltingGardenOfHeathen yeah phoenixes seem to be working alright again. I've been having more success just launching early asf. Its more about getting ahead of the clutter from all the fox3 spam
I should also mention that if you are paying attention to your missiles and have a bright green dot on your radar for the guys you wanna track you CAN guide the missile in until very close to target then swap off TWS to minimize their time getting a radar warning, but in my experience letting them self guide too late will cause you to miss some hits
What are the exact camands / keybindings you're hitting in order to swap targets on a half lock, I tried all the radar hot keys for me and can't figure it out
@@garrettdavis6802 It should be automatic under (some) distance. Unfortunately every tutorial differs in the distance from the enemy for the Phoenix to self guide. But just fire the missile, let it rip with your TWS still on (presumably the missiles hog the radar pings in a sort off imprecise guidance) and once in range (below 12km) TURN OFF your radar. The missiles should realise they're not guided anymore, and switch to active radar homing. That's how i think those missiles work. The radar they're carrying is still rudimental to what AMRAAMS have, and needs to be in quite close range to be able to guide themselves. But the way the radar is controlled in this game is fucking killing me. Literally a guitar hero.
Good to know on the "Keep the TWS on" bit... 0 mention of that being important in the ingame tutorial. I guess the missiles get fed info from the plane's datalink?
Quick heads up that I forgot to throw in the comments cause I spaced. My comment at the end about the R27 is a little invalid, I have since been informed that you can launch the missile with a soft lock in tws, but it requires a hard lock for terminal guidance! So I'd recommend against ripple firing them.
Do you play sim battles ever? I’ve been wanting to see more people playing sim with the aim54. It’s really fun but the radar symbology isn’t great so it’s hard to know distance to target and stuff

There is a flight setting mode that activates control damping on modern aircraft in the game for the simulator mouse joystick that makes it easier to fly using your keyboard in sim. I'm disabled and can't use a joystick but a friend told me about the damping mode first on the F16 and I was able to fly almost as well as realistic. Only thing I have trouble with is free camera in the cockpit to keep an eye on an aircraft if I get in a merge but it is what it is.
My only advice is you can see here I targeted 2 of hte same people on accident while rippling, just make sure ur on a different target every time, more worth than doubling up!
not quite sure what you mean boss, if you could upload a lil clip or sum i could try and help tho. if you dont get double circles when you prep missile you are either too far, shitty radar reading, or its a missile not a plane. if you can't prep the missile or launch it you're probably not selecting the phoenix, other than that I'm unsure what you could mean sorry!

go bind it in your controls, filter search radar, I have a video in one of my recents called "top tier binds in under 2 minutes" that should help u bind up everything if you struggle to find it. It's just called "swap target" or something like that. Mines on 3 right next to R which is my radar lock key.

@vgames1543 lmao just go bind everything and copy me! You are using dogfight acm mode, which is what will be activated by that bind. Its kind of counter intuitive but I have a "top tier controls in 2minutes" that'll help ya out with binds. You just need to swap the radar mode to TWS, not activating dogfight acm mode which has a max range of 9 klicks on the tomcats. Then set max range to 93km, cycle targets, prep missile, yeet once you meet your launch parameters. 1.1mach, 4km altitude, and 50km max range
54C tracks better! However the 54A has a larger payload. Generally speaking in most cases the 54C will be better though due to its enhanced tracking and the missile proxy fusing better! Just gotta figure out the quirks on the tomcats radar and ur set man!
@@UserEthernet if you ever need to grind mission score fast just bring 6 of those and 2 heaters and yeet them at altitude and try to rod from god some people with those 9L's lol! I grinded like 20k for the event everyday doing that in around an hour and change!

sry didn't see this one and im late as nuts but I have a "top tier controls" video that'll help you find everything but you basically just need to be able to switch to dogfight/acm mode, lock radar, cycle targets, and to change the distance on ur radar and swap ur radar modes so you can use TWS or PD mode for non phoenix usage

Correct! In real world it would get info from other tomcats in TWS mode as well but whattaya gonna do

You don't lock them! Fire from soft lock and maintain soft lock by keeping tws on and targeted to them

They will do it eventually at a certain distance but you can force it early by disengaging to have more chance to evade
