Such an understated car. I know later Olds were only driven by senior citizens before going out of business, but in 1960s, who was the customer type for these Olds?
Bill, this is a great car and what makes it better is the lack of common options from the day. Not crazy about the dealer installed AC, but at least you'd be comfortable when driving it here in hot and humid New Jersey!
A very nice survivor car. I almost bought an Olds 98 of this generation as my first car back in the late 80s. Solid cars and with a non emissions choked 455 under the hood, these land yachts had a surprising amount of get up and go in them.
I HAD A 2 DOOR 98 HOLIDAY COUPE. 72,000 WHEN PURCHASE FOR 750.00. DROVE IT 287,000 MILES. EVERYTHING STILL WORKED, ENGINE WAS A GREAT ONE, 455. STILL RAN GOOD. SOLD 500.00 DROVE IT FOR 16 YEARS. STILL HAD GREAT INTERIOR. FULLY OPTIONED.
@@christianbugatticg LATE 80S' I BOUGHT A 72 MARQUIS 24,000 MILES NO RUST FOR 1800.00. WIMBLEDON WHITE AND BLACK VINYL BLACK CLOTH INT. 429. THE OLDS WAS A BETTER CAR. MERC RAN HOT AND SUCKED GAS. THE OLDS WOULD MAX OUT THE SPEEDOMETER AND KEEP GOING. IT NEVER BROKE DOWN. JUST ROTTED AWAY. THAT OLDS WAS STOUT AND WORE TIRES EVENLY. THE WONDER BAR STEREO STILL WORKED. @christianbugatticg YOU WILL NEVER EVER FIND THOSE CHEAP. PEOPLE NEVER TOOK CARE OF THEIR CARS LIKE THEY DO NOW. I HAVE SEEN BILL BLASS LINCOLNS SITTING NEXT TO BARNS. THOSE 460S WERE PIGS. AS WAS THE 400. 11 MILES TO THE GALLON. UNDERPOWERED SLUGS, SHITTY CARBS, TINY RADIATORS BUT, THE TRANSMISSION WAS WONDERFUL.
@christianbugatticg 1972 BUICK ELECTRA LIMITED COUPE 455 WAS EVERY BIT AS GOOD AS THAT 69 OLDS. THE NEIGHBORS HAD A IVY GREEN, AVACADO TOP, AND MED IVY GREEN BROCADE INT. EVERY OPTION. THE CAR WAS VANDALIZED WITH CHAINS, PAINT AND CONCRETE BLOCKS. IT MADE YOUR HEART HURT WHEN THEY BROUGHT IT HOME. THE CAR HAD 28,000 MILES ON IT. BACK THEN IF DID SOMEONE WRONG, THEY EVENTUALLY WOULD GET THE CAR.
There is a lot of lead filler in those sail panels. I've seen original paint cars with traces of 'handwork' visible. Most Olds 98 roofs in 1969 were probably cover with a vinyl top. This Town Sedan is very interesting; I'm guessing it was the least expensive "C" body in 1969. A beautiful automobile.
The flaws in the sail panel are typical of a car that's been repainted. The lead filler in the joint gets contaminated from sanding. Common error when repainting. Two of my cars are the same way.
A good looking car that shows when the styling for the 70's cars started. Re the paint defects, it's a shame, they would drive me nuts and trying to correct them with new paint would not be easy. A drivers car for anyone that can live with it's issues.
This was back in the day when you could custom order a vehicle and end up with some odd combinations, like this car. A six way power seat and a power trunk release but no power windows or door locks. Not even factory air conditioning. Nowadays everything is so generic. Oh how I miss those days, but then I realize that this car is 55 years old. Man, I’m really getting old!
I used drive my dad's 98..like driving a battleship!!😊😊😊
And I bet it was fun!!
My grandfather had a luxury sedan that color in 69. Bought a new 98 every year.
This 98 is beautiful.
Thanks!
My best friend's grandfather had one. He loved it. Big, solid, strong, fast Oldsmobile!
Nice!

Oh yeah! I certainly appreciate the cold air down here in hot steamy SC!! lol
The rear tailights, etc remind me of my old 71 monte carlo that my dad bought in conway,s.c in 97
Yes, very similar.

Yes! I will do a driving video maybe tomorrow!
Nice car olds are such good powerplants
Yes they are.
Truly a beautiful, strong car
Thanks!
Bill, that’s typical on most repaints, unless an oxide primer is used. This is a chemical reaction with the solvent and the lead joints.
I think that is right!

@@brettedgar6733 I know, the market has changed a lot!
The flaws on the back sail panels are probably because an original vinyl top was removed and painted over, which is an improvement if it is the case!
You know someone else called me and said the same thing. "Maybe some glue was left behind in those areas and the paint reacted???
