Sacks is one of the finest examples of a fully lived human life I've come across.

So awful; so sad. The amphetamine experience. It is good that Oliver Sacks unsparingly tells his readers and listeners the true effects and dangers of amphetamine addiction, stressing that it turned him into an electrified rat for entire weekends at a time. How brave he is, telling the world of his past weaknesses.

I've never found it to be anything like that, it was always a social drug there would be no point in taking it alone but maybe that is to do with personalities because I don't drink alone either. If you highlighted people with drink problems and said this is the normal for people who take alcohol and read stories about the extremes that alcoholics go to it would be a similarly horrible picture but is that a whole and true representation ?

i am a amphetamine user for over 20 years now ,15 of them without a diagnose , i was diagnosed with ADHD 5 years ago and am currently on Attenthine, i can honestly say that amphetamine saved my life.. no one i did not tell would never se that i am using .. the problem is that many doctors refuses to give long time users of amphetamine the drug be course they se it as an substitute for an addiction.. the thing is that amphetamine alone does not create fys addiction (you dont get sick if you dont get the drug) and still today there is not made a study on how dangerous a long time use of only amphetamine really is.. sorry for my poor grammar ..

I also have ADHD and can relate. I know it shocks people when they find out the treatment is often with amphetamines (or other strong stimulants), but it's only by using the medicine that I feel at ease and can actually sleep at night. My brain, in its normal, is always restless and hyperactive. I feel sorry for Sacks though. I think neurotypicals have a totally different experience, especially when they get addicted to it.

@@filipedecarvalho3390 He was taking doses way higher than a doctor will prescribe. You would have the same experiences if you took a week's dose at once. Everyone's brain behaves the same way when taking huge doses of amphetamines.

That person must have been taking about five times the maximum allowed prescribed dose.
