    Hey Thea, great job as always. My daughter's High School is in Hell's Kitchen and I never knew the history. She goes to the Professional Performing Arts School, PPAS, and they are a stone's throw from the theater district as you mention. Thank you also for the Actors Studio reference. I never heard of it before and will definitely check it out. Rock on!

    I needed to hear that last bit about Daredevil. The gritty, gloomy atmosphere of its setting turned me off from looking up Hell's Kitchen until today lmao.

      lol. If you have watched the show, the bar that they frequent was filmed at the Turkey's Nest in Greenpoint/Williamburgs (which is actually a nice neighborhood). A lot of shows these days are filmed in Greenpoint and Long Island City.

    I've always associated Hell's Kitchen with Gordon Ramsey! Thanks for clear that misconception of mine!

      Tbh, there are other stories of where the name comes from and there's no clear evidence to prove any of them. But it was for sure long before Gordon Ramsey 😅

    lmao hells kitchen was empty last year 2022 during the free train days... All them dudes were up in Harlem and on the trains having wild nights... You know, all them colorful flags you got? This city was wild honey, a history thats gonna be quickly swept away. If youre really from NYC I am sure you seen what many dudes were doing on the trains...
    Whos gonna make record of that history??

    Actually in this 'race' to be the winner as the highest priced city, isSan Francisco is the winner for being THE most expensive city in America! NYC my favourite American city is still 'cheaper' than ritzy snobby Attitude By The Bay!

    I loved this "guide", so I am now a subscriber to your channel. I am a native of NYC, and a resident of HK for nearly 10 years now. Did you give any consideration to the impact of the Westies on HK? The gang's zenith of power was the 1960s through 1980s. Just something to consider... I look forward to watching more of your fine work!

      The Mafia mostly stayed away when I lived there. It was Irish gang territory - the Westies. But the Mafia and Westies worked together occasionally.

    Great Thea, Hell's kitchen is my second favorite area to walk, after the lower east side. The hotel i stay at is on 47th between 7th and 8th, so it's very handy, one of my must stops is the Landmark Tavern on 46th, across from the Intrepid, a quick refreshnent then walk the Hi-Line. Keep the videos coming, Thank You

    Did I actually see a place called” Mickey Spillanes’s with rainbow flags on it? Do you know who Mickey Spillane was and what he represented in Hells Kitchen? He was the leader of the Irish Mob called,” The Westies”. He was murdered and the new leader became Jimmy Connan. The Westies (Irish Mob) ruled Hell’s Kitchen during the 1970’s and 1980’s. They chopped up bodies of people they killed and disposed of them without a trace. Now they have places like this named after him to keep the history in some sort of way? It’s laughable. I wish the Westies were still around to get rid of the snobs they have in that neighborhood now that have a fit when their latte isn’t made by someone it’s a foreign accent. Old New York was grimy, but it was much better.

    • @C--A
      @C--A ปีที่แล้ว

      Grimy but much more dangerous!
      As for the rainbow flags 🌈 in Hells Kitchen tons of gay artists moved to Hells kitchen in the 80's. They just were much more discreet back then!
      Times change buddy..... Hells Kitchen is a lot safer than it used to be, which is a good thing 👌🏾

    • @UFCANT

      @@C--A I park at a garage on west 50th street every year to take my kids to see the tree and Times Square. You’re right. It’s definitely much safer but unfortunately the past couple of years things seem to be going backwards. Hopefully it won’t get as bad as it was. The migrant situation certainly isn’t helping. Lots of homeless Americans that should be taken care of than these people.
