Hey Morgan, thank you for the kind words. I’m inclined to agree with you (lol), however I did apply to be a KUAT ambassador but was denied. At the end of the day, I’m a consumer too, so I’ll keep advocating for the best products because I honestly believe we all benefit. Thanks again. :)
Hey, thanks for the kind words! Re: the Amazon links, I’ve actually moved-away from that. I’ll be honest, I’ve made $0.00 from TH-cam for these videos and I was honestly feeling the financial strain, but I really want ‘integrity’ to be a core principle of any video I produce and I started to feel like affiliate links were compromising for very little financial benefit. Instead, I’m trying to do a better job at promoting the GREYWOLF Alpine dog leash but I’ve been avoiding the operational cost of a website and payment processing license. I have recently been approved for Amazon’s ‘handmade’ program, so I’ll be sending some to a fulfillment centre at some point so people can purchase through them.
I'm a bit late to the discussion. We love our Pivot V2 and use it with a truck camper with the tailgate down which is a good reason to have it set up like yours. However, we have a different bike rack which hung out even more than yours. Luckily I have access to a shop and was able to shorten the neck of the bike rack and drill a new hole for the pin.
Hey, thanks for taking the time to comment and share your experience. I’ve spent a bit of time considering how I might modify it to bring the bike rack closer to the vehicle, but I fear it would probably be easier to start with a full redesign. Re: cutting the shank on the rack itself, KUAT has a VERY nice anti-wobble system which uses a wedge at the end and it would also destroy any resale value, so I won’t be going that route myself.
Great video. Especially showcasing on the Bronco. I have a Bronco myself and have been researching what racks would fit best. The Pivot + Kuat rack is going to be perfect for me. Thanks for the video.
Hey, that’s awesome! I’m honestly glad the video was helpful. Right now an F150 meets my needs the best, but I’m super envious you have a Bronco. Maybe one day if I win the lotto millions. Lol
Excellent video 👍🏼😎I had seen the Kuat Pivot in another video but the details in your video are much better and specific to my own use case. I have ‘22 Bronco Badlands with a 35” tire on the back and this is exactly the option I’m looking for, but specifically the “driver’s side” Kuat option as in need it to pivot to the driver side of the vehicle, because of how tailgate on the Bronco operates in the opposite direction. So anyone looking for one, be sure to note the difference when ordering your pivot arm. ✌🏼
Hey Carl, thanks for the kind words! I actually had to delete a comment someone else left this morning, so this was greatly appreciated. That’s a good point too re: the driver versus passenger swing. I prefer driver because if you’re camping, the sites are always oriented to the passenger side. This allows me to swing the bikes away without creating an obstacle to walk-around. Also, congrats on your Bronco! I recently did a three-way video partnership with Cam Clark Ford Airdrie and Arrkann RV (Calgary) over on the GREYWOLF Garage channel with a Wildtrack Sasquatch and a Winnebago trailer. While my F150 actually gets better fuel economy, I love the Bronco and hope to own one someday. :D
For the cases where both sides would work, I was thinking passenger side so that when parked on the street you could use the pivot towards the side walk side and not the street side. From your experience with it, does that sound like it would be a significant plus? Or would you still prefer driver side for the campsite case.
@@PhilippeLalonde Me personally, I don’t like the swing out to the passenger side so it is potentially behind the tailgate, which on Bronco, also opens wider than 90 degrees. In my use cases I never have unloaded my bikes when parallel parked on a street; typically I’m in a parking lot. ✌🏼
Nice job including the Bronco except why didn't you show the tailgate open with the rack attached? I have a Sasquatch Bronco and would have loved to have seen that.
Hey, that’s a perfectly reasonable question. The simple answer was actually because this Bronco had already been sold to a customer but the dealer hadn’t done the PDI yet. So we basically tried to be as careful and least impactful as possible to the point where myself and the Media Manager at Cam Clark were super careful not to even scratch the paint inside the receiver. That said, Cam Clark and I will be doing more filming with Broncos as their availability slowly increases. They’re still a highly desirable vehicle so naturally they are very particular about them. How do you like yours? As a former FJ owner I would LOVE to get a Bronco one day.
Very good review, waiting to get my “Hollywood carrier” for the Kurt pivot2. I bought the magnetic trailer lights from harbor freight and plan on mounting them as applicable. We shall see how it works.
Hi, thank you for takin the time to comment. I honestly appreciate that. May I ask what a ‘Hollywood Carrier’ is? Lol. Good call on the lights though; they are the single best feature of the Piston Pro X
How about the bike rack has additional hole 5 to 6 cm away from the original hole to secure it to hatch so we can at least put the rack near to the tail.
I 100% agree the bike rack should have multiple positions so it can be fully inserted into the Pivot. In fact, I almost did what you are suggesting to gain the extra few centimetres. The only reason I haven’t is because I’ve been using the bike rack almost exclusively on the back of my camper trailer (@GREYWOLFrv) and I really want more than what a new hole would provide.
Good review and explanation. The space is good, I agree, especially for the configuration of the Jeep and tire. My question is this; Using the Pivot 2 and the newer Piston double bike rack, would it be prudent or even useful to shorten the tubing from the bike rack that fits into the Pivot 2 so the standoff from the Pivot 2 isn't so great? I can't see any degradation of the strength by doing that. Your thoughts?
Hey, my apologies for the slow reply. I’m actually on the road doing some filming. So, to answer your question, I 100% understand where you’re coming from but cutting the shank of the bike rack shorter would be cutting-off one of the best features of KUAT bike racks - the anti-rattle system. This uses a cam/wedge that tightens inside the receiver to prevent the rack from shaking-around. Now, as mentioned in the video (although perhaps not very well), one could drill a hole ~5cm/2” further in, but I think it really needs 15cm/6”+ to have any meaningful impact.
You forget, if the bike rack shaft was shorter, it may not clear the door when opened as there is only one pivot point. But yeah think of the leverage of 2 ebikes on there in the bumps, or 4 bikes.
Thank you for the great video! I'm a new Jeeper (24 Sahara) and road bike cyclist. I've been looking at the Kuat Pisto Pro X because I love the pivot feature that allows me seamless access to the back. Does it block the rear camera tho? Also, I'm not a huge fan of the lights and wires BUT I love how you explained the value of the rear lights for drivers approaching behind. I imagine that's why the Kuat lettering is white in that one area instead of the matte black...one of cons you described in another video. Anyway, will the camera be blocked or obstructed in any way?
Hey, first and foremost, congrats on the Jeep even if I prefer the Bronco. Lol. Re: rear camera obstruction, that’s going to depend on the vehicle, whether you have the Piston Pro X in the stow or carry position, and whether you have the original two (2) bike carriers or a +1 or +2 carrier(s). With that said, I can only comment on my experience with an F150 and while you can clearly see the rack in your rear-view camera, it is easy to estimate the distance when in the stow position. When it’s in the carry position with a bike, it becomes more difficult to estimate distance, but at that point your vehicle is probably long enough that I would recommend parking somewhere where there isn’t a vehicle behind you (e.g. using two consecutive spots or reverse parking over grass, that sort of thing). Hopefully this explanation is sufficient and thank you for the kind words. :)
Yes, it’s called the holllywood sport rider e bike rack. It is from the letric bike company. I have one of e bikes from them. I also have another brand of bike. I had ordered another type of e bike carrier but they sent me the older model and I sent it back. In retrospect, the one I sent back, we found another sticker on the box that someone had already returned that one. I didn’t want that carrier anyway because it had a short 2 inch adapter to my hitch, the other part was 11/4 that was long to the bike rack. It look flimsy to me. I try to research on TH-cam but unfortunately many reviews are BS. Like so many things, people ruin them, I think a lot of TH-cam post are strictly for the money, which would be ok but they don’t give accurate description. Well, that’s my story, have a good day.
I can appreciate what you’re referring to re: TH-cam videos. I’m planning to do a video once I hit 100 subscribers giving a little more insight to the channel and my plans. Nevertheless, one ethical principle I guide the channel by is I only feature products I believe are good. Beyond that I try to be fair and authentic. This way any subscriber or viewer can rest assured it’s worth consideration.
Absolutely, I just happen to love the Bronco. In fact, I’m partnering with Cam Clark Ford Airdrie right now to create a video on the GREYWOLF Garage channel re: sub 3,500lb off-road RVs that can be towed by the Bronco (or Wrangler).
very nice demo... it's a pet peeve of mine when people use the words "actual" and "actually" since those words add nothing of informational value and break my concentration on what is being said.
Thank you for taking the time to comment. I’ll re-watch the video to better understand your suggestion and attempt to be more conscious moving forward.
Hey, great question. According to the KUAT website, the Pivot V2 is not RV compatible. However, I cannot confirm nor deny my mother has been using a KUAT bike rack which is not RV compatible for 6-years behind her 35ft RV with zero issues. Moreover, I personally intended to use my KUAT Pivot V2 in conjunction with my KUAT Piston Pro X behind my new RV (21ft) this summer and beyond as I have 100% confidence in its construction quality and perceived safety. My suspicion is KUAT either hasn’t tested it for RV use or there are too many rack combinations to provide an RV endorsement. Therefore, to answer your question I defer to KUAT’s website which says ‘no’ despite the fact I personally intend to use mine in this application.
KUAT racks feature an anti-rattle system which uses a wedge integrated into the shank, so you would not want to cut it. Moreover, it would limit its ability to be used on other vehicles or be sold in the future. You could drill a new hole but that would only gain ~5cm. Not bad, but >15cm would have a meaningful impact.
Hey, thanks for the compliment. I actually want to push-back on your ‘target market’ comment because I spoke with KUAT and they confirmed it was a balancing act between pick-ups and vehicles with rear mounted tires. In fact, when you go to KUAT’s website the Pivot V2 is pictured mounted to two (2) pick-up trucks and two (2) SUVs. Moreover, the Pivot V2 is not pictured on any vehicle with a rear-mounted tire but it was designed to extend far enough from the rear of the vehicle to accommodate it (www.kuat.com/product/pivot-2/).
Hey, I appreciate the criticism. I could have phrased that a lot better. To be honest, I’m just a normal guy trying to make helpful videos. I don’t come from a presenting background and I try to be as authentic as possible in my videos. With that said, I prepare for videos by writing a list of points I want to discuss and then when I’m recording I’m trying my best to remember those points and turn them into sentences. Lol. In the end I was simply trying to say there are pros and cons for having the extension off the back of the vehicle.
Wow. I honestly find that surprising. Did you experience binding when you were tightening it down? Do you think it might have been overtightened? KUAT has been using this anti-rattle system on their racks for years and I personally have experiencing running a KUAT rack on the back of an RV for 6-years without issue (RVs being significantly more violent than a vehicle).
Hey, thanks for taking the time to comment. Keep in mind, this is more of a ‘rack system’ than a rack itself. The Piston Pro X alone does not stick out far, only when coupled with the Pivot V2. Nevertheless, I agree. It’s my hope to work with KUAT to develop a V3 with multiple insertion depths to bring things back closer to vehicles where a rear spare tire is not a factor.
