I actually prefer a wrestling shoe as I think it helps a more athletic boxer who actually gets in alot more different positions defensively and offensively rather than someone who is more flat footed, but I could see how they might be too grippy and awkward for some people
I just bought some asics wrestling shoes for boxing training. They were definitely a step up from the running shoes I was using that were causing my foot to move around while moving laterally. I feel more planted to the floor with the wrestling shoes. I may sand off some of the grip to allow for better pivoting in the ring.
Asics does make an actual boxing shoe. I haven't seen many people wear them. I've seen Shawn Porter wear them, but that's about it. They're pretty expensive, but not as expensive as Mizuno. The look is distinctly different and they employ a traditional boxing sole.
the sole on traditional boxing shoes is a joke, made only for the ring. There’re a lot of gyms that have crap floors that’ll chew through the sole in a few months. This is the reason why I chose wrestling boots over boxing boots for training. The ankle rolling danger mentioned in the video is a non issue - in kickbox and muaythai you train barefoot, so if one is training in any fighting sports, should have steady feet and balance, no matter what. Nike hyperko and everlast elite have better sole, but come at double the price, and are mostly worn by pros and competitve fighters - you’ll raise some eyebrows showing up wearing those at the gym while not being able to do damage, if you know what I mean...
I get it.. flash can attract haters who will try to "humble" your garments. ..But if somebody tries to 'humble a noob' simply 'cuz they got nice shit, they're a jealous dick..
Excellent breakdown Carlo!! I've been using Vibram 'Toe shoes' for bjj and kickboxing, theres virtually no padding/support for the ankle or underfoot - so your knees, heels & back feel everything if you're flat-footed - but BJJ and kickboxing are barefoot, so it feels right (They also machine washable!) This vid was the nudge I needed to decide their replacement lol.
I've alway used wrestling shoes for boxing. One of the main reasons is the availability from your local sporting goods store. Yes they fit a bit tight off the bat but they're very affordable ($35 to $50). They do grip to the ring and your right i wouldn't want to run in them (you'll wear out the sole especially on asphalt). But for the most part, if its tuesday and you needed "boxing shoes" for your next class on Thursday, I'd difinately go with wrestling shoes from your local sporting goods store. Note: this comment was sponsored by ASICS... lol! Jk!!
You're right about the availability part Troy; I looked online everywhere and all I could find are wrestling shoes because all the boxing shoes were sold out (at least for my 10.5 US size).
@@fearnobodyandtrustnoone wrestling shoes will do just fine. Now if your more of a advanced competitive boxer, then yeah spend the cash of some nike boxing shoes.
Interestingly, the Rival Prospect boxing shoe uses the same outsole as the Asics Matflex wrestling shoe. It's literally the same thing with the Asics logo removed.
I use Adidas pretereo 3 wrestling shoes for both. Strange thing is, in the US, they're sold as boxing shoes. In the UK and Australia (where I am), they are sold as wrestling shoes lol.
Hey Carlo! Love your videos man. I started boxing about 2 weeks ago and bought some (too much) gear after extensively watching your videos. I decided to order a pair of 14 oz Top Boxer Win1s in Green w/ laces (I’m 5’4”, 125lbs) and really looking forward to using them. My question is, have you heard of the Otomix Ninja warrior shoes? I saw them on a couple of “good boxing shoe” lists and was wondering if those were good training shoes for boxing. Thanks bro!!
Thanks man! I know about otomix and reviewed a pair of their boxing shoes a few years ago. Nice shoes and as long as they’re comfortable for you and the sole allows you to feel planted then you’re good to go
I started wrestling and, where I live (Canada), I can't find wrestling shoes anywhere. So I was wondering if boxing shoes would do the job... Well thanks to your video I now realise that we have almost only wrestling shoes marketed as boxing! XD Shopping is gonna be easier!
If your a beginner or starting boxing I would go for wrestling shoes until more advanced or you can afford boxing shoes. I used both and boxing shoes help and support my ankles a lot better especially if your flat footed
I actually have the Title Speed Flex High boxing shoes and they feel amazing. I can dance around, they are comfortable, and durable. I’ve had them for like 1.5 months now and they are only $50. You can get some good boxing shoes for cheaper
Wrestling Shoes are better. In wrestling your standing, moving around while standing & your on the ground. Wrestling Shoes are great for standard work outs too.
Yo I'm thinking of upgrading boxing gloves I have some everlast gloves right now there where 40 at wallmart my budget is under 90 what gloves do you think I should get I'm trying to go pro when I'm 18 I'm 15 rn and I use 16 oz only
I’m 14 rn and I got some superior boxing gloves on eBay from superior boxing. If you search it up then you’ll see them on TH-cam, they look a little like winning gloves. Csquared did a review about them, they are the white pair of Velcro gloves, so search up superior boxing gloves and you’ll see them. I actually have a yt channel and am about to do a review on them. They are genuine leather, and feel fantastic, best gloves I’ve used in terms of comfort and protection. And I’ve used Cleto so they are my favorites. Check them out if u need anything and he doesn’t get back to u just insta me @evanilliniSamano and tell me it’s u. Cuz I’m in the same boat, I’m young and tryna make it pro
I’ve worn wrestling shoes for years . Never rolled my ankle . Boxing boots have way too many laces . Can’t be bothered with them . Wrestling shoes all day . I’ve noticed pros using low cut boots too . I don’t think the extra laces are that important imo
Is there a wide wrestling shoe that you recommend for men with wide feet? I ise my wrestling shoes for the weight room, occasionally some penetration shots, shadow boxing, jumping all inside the gym.
I know lomachenko have asics agressor shoes in some title fights.. thats mean its okey with wrestlingshoes i thinks they are more durable then boxing shoes
Lol saw u wearing these in ur ig video, with you jumping rope with the 1 lb rope, and I thought to myself why you did that, and I guess I see now, lol! Great review btw!
I saw your review of the Nike Inflict 3 for boxing and I was genuinely considering buying them... however, I think I'm better off saving the money. If I'm wrong, let me know... For the people that have no choice but to use wrestling shoes for boxing... believe me, there have been worse boxing shoes made that'll make your wrestling shoes seem like the best thing on the market. The Roy Jones Jr Jordan boxing boot is the worst boxing shoe I've ever used. They're heavy, clunky, uncomfortable, and just all around bad aside from looking cool. They feel like a basketball boot. Nothing about them seems like they're made for boxing. I keep mine in a display case lol.
I personally use wrestling shoes but that’s because I don’t really know any good places to get boxing shoes from and also the size of the shoes gives me a hard time trynna figure out because I use a size 8 for my sneakers and for wrestling I had to buy 10.5 so I don’t know if it’s the same for boxing 🤷🏾♂️so if anyone wants to help me out with that pls do Thank you!
I have the same problem with the size difference. I have to wear 16's in Wrestling shoes and I haven't been able to find Boxing shoes above 13 anywhere online. Thankfully I got a pair where the grip lets you pivot no problem. Plus they're just way more affordable and go on sale more often.
I do MMA and wear my Asics wrestling shoes in boxing class. After boxing, I immediately go to wrestling class with the same shoes on. Convenient!

Raise some eyebrows? You can wear whatever shoes you want at the gym, who cares what others think.
This is why I like wrestling shoes. At my gym I train on rubber mat, concrere and asphalt. It would destroy boxing boots.
If you train MMA/Muay Thai, why are you looking at shoes for training anyway? This is a boxing channel. GTFOH.
