Mary: Don't worry Jesus everything is fine actually. Let me sing to you and touch you.

I love the smirk Judas gives Peter here.
He's known Jesus for just as long. His attitude to Jesus's response just screams "Yeah. Here we go again. Same platitude. Guess you're not going to listen to me. Again. Why do I bother?" Then he smirks at Peter as if to say "And there go. As if you're any better just watch. Yup. There it is."
I completly buy that this version of Judas has been there from the beginning and (at this stage in the show) is just trying to hold things together. Very much in the boat of "we've come to far to stop now" even though his drive has been replaced with frustration and anger

Mostly because this is only one of the very few versions of the show that have Judas right in touching distance of Jesus (see Heaven on their Minds and how many times Judas touches him) most of the other versions have them quite far apart. That and actor Jerome Pradon is gay in the first place and from what I've read Glenn Carter is pretty much a hippie (he follows a religion that has a whole lot of sexual imagery involved in a way that doesn't devalue the women in the group.

There's so much storytelling going on in this tiny moment when Peter fights Judas at 1:09. Judas knows Peter is making a fool of himself by threatening to hit him in front of Jesus; in this moment, he gets confirmation that he is still the only disciple who really comprehends the message, even as he increasingly doubts its methods. He knowingly waits for Jesus to intervene and when he does, he chastises Peter directly, just straight up calling him dumb. It flips the scene around: now Jesus is angry because Judas is right; they are ill-equipped to defend themselves when/if Rome makes them a target. From here on, he pivots to complain pretty petulantly that no one will care when he's gone, which is pretty much all Judas has talked about for the last 10 minutes of musical.

and I also love the acting of some of the apostles in the background especially Simon he has an angry glare which is very likely directed at Judas for what happened to Mary and I also love the great depth this gives Simon while he may be rebellious and believe in fighting his heart is in the right place and he knows how to treat his friends and everyone that he cares about and Jesus asking Judas who are you to criticize her, who are you to judge her is another great moment not only does Glenn Carter perform Jesus masterfully including the above lyric it also does a great job of showing that Jesus was not perfect he was a flawed yet extraordinary and extraordinary brave, courageous compassionate heroic hero and Glenn Carter has perfect chemistry with Jerome Pradon as Judas and vice versa and Jerome 's Judas is perfect as well while his social skills may need some work in later scenes like superstar which Jerome performs absolutely masterfully we see the humanity in Judas and his sympathy for Jesus and that in his heart of hearts he has always cared about Jesus and been his friend!! Judas, Jesus and Simon are complex characters yet Jerome Pradon, Glenn Carter and Tony Vincent perform them masterfully and perfectly !!

The whole thing about Mary Magdalen being a woman of easy virtue is a Catholic perpetuated myth. She was a strong merchant woman who came from a good family, a rare woman of her time. The male traders were very prejudiced towards her. She helped the apostles where she could after the crucifixion, financially and emotionally. She was an unrecognised apostle. She even wrote a gospel, one of the many unseen gospels, locked away for centuries, rotting in a papal vault.

I think the whole point of making different versions of JCS is to make them artistically different, bringing something new to the table, and I love how the 4 release movies/live musical shows (and all the different plays around the world) give a different spin to the story.
For example, in the 72' and 00' version Mary and Judas have a much more complicated relationship, whereas in the 2012 Mel C version they mostly just dislike each other.
With that being said, Judas in this particular number seems to just want to start trouble for no good reason other than bother Jesus and Mary, with his constant taunting and shit eating grin. It kinda destroys the whole point of his character, honestly.

I don't really like this portrayal of Judas. By making him so blatantly evil, it makes us completely side with Jesus and not understand where Judas is coming from. In the musical, Judas represents doubt and fear. He's afraid of what will happen to Jesus and the apostles if they try to start a new religion, a religion which he thinks is absurd. "How could his friend, who he's known for years be God's son? He's just another man just like the rest of us." This portrayal removes what I believe to be an integral question that the musical asks.

This looks like a overproduced school play. I prefer the old movie.

The singing makes my ears bleed and the acting has an equal effect on my eyes. Why the fuck would Judas just throw Mary Magdelene down like that? How would that violence not stop the singing right there and then?

I think Jesus is OK but I agree about Judas. Though I give him 10/10 for effort.
