I edited together two fan captures from the 2017.8.29 release party in Osaka for Girlfriend's debut album CHOCOLATE. I only discovered their music in the last couple of months as a result of their bass player @mina_gf_band appearing in one of Davie504's videos. They dissolved the band in April 2021. Their second album HOUSE showed a lot of maturity in their songwriting and playing style from the standard J-Pop. Unfortunately, COVID stifled their ability to promote the album and the band, and their upward momentum stalled.
I used Audacity to sync up the audio tracks, each of them compressed separately and then I rendered them down to a single track after dialing them down just a hair because they were clipping consistently throughout. However, after the initial mixing of the two audio tracks from the phone footage, the quality improved significantly.
To show just how skilled the band is when they played their songs live, I next grabbed the audio track of the studio version of this song and mixed it in just enough to supplement the missing quality from the phone audio. The studio track supplemented the live track without taking away from their actual performance and the atmosphere (I think). Either the mix in the club or the phones did not capture Sakika's guitar nor Mina or Nagisa's vocals very well. Once that was mixed in, it only adds to the overall quality of the performance and enjoyment of this short clip from the show.
I'm fairly pleased with the results in the audio. I was able to also work on my transition and A/V syncing skills. For the most part, the videos are similar in a wide view, but one of them does do a sweep of the band midways, so it made for a nice change in perspective, and one of the phones has a better quality camera. I'm still tweaking it just as practice, but I don't think I could get much better with what I had to work with.

UPDATE 10-21-2021: After posting this of course I would come across two more videos posted by "GF banban" and "キ". The one by "GF banban" was essentially the same angle as the two I used and not quite as good quality, so I didn't mess with it. The one by "キ" was a portrait style of just Nagisa (lead guitar) and Mirei (drums). I'll link them below. I've been experimenting with adding one small section during the bridge when Nagisa sings a part, as the camera cuts away right when she steps up to the mic, but I'm having trouble making it look as good as I'd like because of the limitations of my editing software. I've added an annotation to the beginning of this vid with the link. You can watch it if you choose (it will be unlisted) and leave a comment on whether the transition looks ok or not. The additional edit is around 2:40.

Blows me away they were all only around 16 or 17 years old here and already so accomplished.

Sadly, we probably never will have any opportunity to see this brilliant band live one day. Too bad, really. But at least, we can have an idea of how it felt in reality, thanks to your work. Thank you very much for sharing this with all of us.

Thanks - I'm appreciative of the fans over there who captured the original clips that made this up. I'm trying to figure out how to maybe do one more compilation clip - I've been combing youTube trying to find some more live clips. But it's going to be a stretch.

@@sonoftheredfox Hope you will succeed. What you did on this song is really impressive.
Don't know much about this band (and not much about japanese bands in general) but discovered them with their first full album "Chocolate".
A pure gem in my opinion. Hard to believe that such a young band could play at such a level. Even harder to understand why their staff and environment (label, management, whoever...) didn't support them more. What a potential really, what a waste !
There must be something really twisted in Japanese music business.

Don't know if you were aware, but Sakika is working on something in the studio - plus she posted pics of Mirei playing drums with her. Looks like they might be collaborating at least. So that's something.

Well, I guess we’ll never know the real truth.
What I find strange is, that there seems to be a lack of communication or concern about Nagisa if she is suffering serious health problems.
Both from the rest of the girls and the management.
I just think the fans who supported them over the years deserve an honest explanation of why they have disbanded.
Whether it be Musical difference’s, ill health, or even pregnancy.
As for Nagisa, and the pregnancy rumours, I would rather her to be a pregnant teenager, than a teenager with serious health problems.
I’m sure we can all agree on that.
They were all great characters, and made some great music.
I always looked forward to the Friday “girlfriend 4 you”
    I wish them well.

True, but I guess the best way to look at it is that it prepared each of them for the next step in their lives and greater things to come, hopefully. At least we have the music.

Still hope that they get back together.
Can’t help thinking it’s more of a management decision, rather than the girls wanting to call it a day.
Does anyone know the real reason why they split ?
I even miss their “girlfriend 4 you” blogs.

I have had this discussion with a few others who have been fans for much longer than I. Truth is in the music landscape they live, it's not uncommon to see these groups formed, broken up, and reorganized on a regular basis as a purely business decision, with no personal issues causing it. The thought has been that COVID just ground the momentum they had been building to a complete halt. There are also rumors of health issues, and possible "breaking of the rules" in regards to violating contractually agreed items regarding their personal lives.
It's effectively been a year since the beginning of the breakup, because by this time last year Nagisa was not appearing with them on their videos, apparently due to some stuff she was going through. But none of the members have commented (I don't figure they will in the future either) about the breakup outside of the statements they published back in April 2021.
MINA seems to have stayed with the management group that GIRLFRIEND was with - of course she's still got a huge following on TikTok, Insta, and her TH-cam channel. She's defnitely able to still generate buzz.
SAKIKA has been more low key (I think on purpose), but still staying busy. She had a live show back in Oct which was really good with some original songs. She's finishing up university. One of her recent vlogs (which it seems that she is going to be ending soon if I got the translation right) stated that she has a new project that in the final review stages. I'm guessing it's an EP of some sort, because she was in the studio a lot last summer and fall. And she's still hanging out with...
MIREI, who I'm not sure what she's really doing - I've checked out her socials, she posts a lot of great photos where she is showing off fashion. maybe she sat in and tracked drums for SAKIKA's project.
NAGISA is the one that seems out of the loop. The other girls don't appear to be following her on socials, which I try not to read into it, but that says a lot to me.
Anyway, they were together for over 5 years, and I think now they are all just taking an opportunity to live life. Their teenage years were spent trying to make this band work. They had a good run. Will they collaborate again as a group of 4? My money says probably not. But you never know.

sonoftheredfox. Many thanks for your reply.
Regarding them breaking the rules violating the terms of agreement on their personal life.
I did see a comment on their last “girlfriends4you” blog, that he thought that Nagisa maybe pregnant, and that would be a big no no in Japan.
Whether that was true or not, I don’t know, but the comment did get taken down.
Don’t know if you saw it.
I think the management have been a little to strict on the girls.
They were young, and still are young, and who doesn’t make mistakes when you’re young.
Even if Nagisa is not pregnant, all the problems seem to point to her, which in my opinion, is a little unfair.
None of them came across as difficult or rebellious.
I miss their videos and watching them develop, I think it’s a missed opportunity by their management.
And this comes from someone who usually doesn’t like to listen or watch a band unless they are singing in English.
I remember the 1st video I saw of them, a cover of Perfume’s Flash.
      Fantastic !
The quality of their musicianship was outstanding.
      I miss them !

@@nidge0482 I'm pretty sure that was a very very unsubstantiated rumor. There was talk thought about some actual very real health issues that were preventing her from being able to perform. When they posted the video of them playing Full House with just the three of them, you could tell it just wasn't the same, especially having to play along with the backing track of Nagisa's guitar. Something was off. Sakika is a good guitarist, but Nagisa's riffs and lead stuff were an integral part of the sound. Everything that happened in 2020 with COVID and lockdowns - I'm convinced contirbuted to them being disbanded. I think if they were on the level of a Scandal, they would have weathered it. But they needed a solid showing from HOUSE. 'Sky and Blue' was big for them, but having 2 albums with solid sales/streaming would have been a saving grace. Or it could have been that some things were bubbling underneath for a while.
