lol not really lol tbh curly hair of any kind is ALOT of up keep and sometimes time consuming and it can get a little expensive .Ablessing and a curse Allee Keene
***** Thank you so much, I appreciate it! And I didn't mean life would be sweet because her hair is better, it just seems a bit easier to manage than my hair. I still love my hair to pieces though! lol
the heat cap opens the hair's cuticle so the ingredients from the conditioner can better penetrate the hair shaft :) i also diffuse on high heat because i'm always crammed for time
Girl I have been watching and rewatching your curly hair routines for a year now. I've already found out my hair routine but you're just so darn amazing to watch.
she's only 2! my mom ignored my hair until i was running around causing havoc :) i think a leave in is fine. maybe some coconut oil. i was raised on coconut oil
Whenever I feel insecure about my curly hair I always come back here. I know it's an older video but seeing a beautiful curly woman just love her hair is so empowering for me💕
So surprised this isn't past 1Mil views!!!!!!!!!! Watched this literally 100x since the week you posted it. Love your editing I'm trying to get to your level one day. Xox
I hate the fact that I found you after you did the major chop. I chopped mine off to be trendy not for health but I am growing it back natural and you have helped me a lot with the mixture of brands and not biased products from brand name sites or endorsed sites. Thanks Hun
omg! i absolutely love your channel! I'm a Polynesian girl and i have very ethnic polynesian bushy curly hair. All my life I've tried to straighten and damage my hair all because i thought society would like me better. Now that im older i realize how important it is to embrace my culture and my curly hair. Thanks for being an inspiration!
You and me both! Right now I'm looking for something to really bring out my curls that have gotten limp and dull. I have hears of this line called carols daughter and I think I'm gonna try it
I agree. I've seen hundreds of curly hair tutorials and I'm not having any luck. The Shea Moisture works for like a day or 2, but I want it to last for at least 5-7 days. My hair just drys up too fast and it only looks okay for that first day. ugh.
Try using the LOC method. I have hair very similar to yours as well. You can search up the LOC method but basically it is the order you apply products. L= Leave in, O= Oil, and C= cream (or any styling milk or gel). If that doesn't help try the LCO method (same thing, but different order). I hope that helps
quiettepeakactually Did you give the LOC or LCO method a try? I'm curious what your results were. Using an oil before washing actually prevents water absorption so you may want to try detangling your hair in the shower with something like Kinky Curly Knot Today to encourage clumping first instead. If you want natural shine, seal in moisture with oil last always, creams do not encourage shine so I prefer LCO over LOC. For less frizz, try refrigerating your gel (cold seals in the moisture and close the hair cuticle. Flat cuticles reflect the light better). Do not apply oil or gel until your curls are moisturized and are clumping the way you want. Then use oil and gel to lock in that moisture and prevent frizz. I really hope I could help you a bit and I hope you and your hair are doing great! If you still have lots of curls and are interested, you can check out my channel where I feature easy and cute curly hair styles. All the best!
You were literally the 1st Curly TH-camr I saw on TH-cam.. Then i got obsessed with all the other curly hair videos other people had. Now I'm transitioning in 3 or 4 more months my one year transition will finally be completed. Anyways even though you didn't transition you seriously have inspired me to be shameless and love my own hair.
Your video has changed my hair routine. I get so many compliments on my curly hair and it was thanks to your tips. Thanks to you I can now tame my fabulous curls :)
Okay, I really need to start getting into a better routine like this for my hair. I used to have huge curls that my mom helped me take care of, but I just completely murdered it when I was 13 and have been doing it ever since. I need my curls back. :| Thank you, Maya! Also, the new bald look you have is beautiful!
i have been straight for 13 years, almost my whole life XD, but now i decided to go to my curly side and i bought a bunch of products trying to get defined curls but its been hard, my hair stays straight at the front and sometimes it gets frizzy in back. they looks like fake curls :c :l , what would u suggest me?
Leidy Bocio It' s great that you're trying to wear your curls! I went through something similar so maybe I can help. Were you straightening it with heat or getting perms to straighten it?
Okay. Well your hair is probably fried from using heat(your ends, especially). Nearly the same thing happened to me when I started. The best way that I found to deal with that is doing braid-outs and twists. The two-strand twist works really well, but I personally just started doing the three-strand twist and I find that gives a more realistic coily curl pattern, if that's what you're looking for. Do these after you have washed your hair and locked in moisture. You don't need a lot of product to do this. I use the LOC method. If you plan on making a long-term transition then you can either do the big chop like a lot of other people or allow it to grow and slowly cut off the damaged sections of your hair. Both of these take patience, but it's worth it. Also, try protective hair styles. This will minimize further damage and will definitely help with an frizz you may have. I hope I helped at least a little. If you need me to go further into detail about something let me know. :)
You're welcome! Doing those braids will help blend the texture of your hair and make your hair look consistent throughout. LOC stands for Leave-in, Oil, and Cream. It's a method for sealing in moisture. You first apply a leave-in conditioner, then an oil(coconut, argan, etc.), and finally a cream(like the Shea Moisture creams that Maya used in this video). After that, you twist it, braid it, style it, defuse it, or whatever you want. I do this after I wash my hair while it's still a little damp. Also, try co-washing every other wash. You may already know this but co-wash is basically washing your hair with conditioner instead of shampoo to avoid drying your hair hair. If you do use a shampoo, try using a sulfate-free shampoo and only shampoo your scalp. Putting shampoo on your ends can damage them even more because they are the oldest part of your hair and can break more easily.
Awesome video! My daughter's hair is just like yours, she's almost 9. I have struggled and struggled until one hair girl showed me what to do when my princess was about 4. I typically just do what you did in the shower, minus the cap and twisting. I really want to try the twist technique though, thanks for posting this!
So I'm going to add my 2 cents in this. I absolutely love curly hair but why the need to all of this. No diffuser. It's really simple. Before I go to bed, I take a regular shower and when Im almost ready to leave the shower, I condition my hair even though I know it will get frizzy in the morning. I'm 13, I can't get these satin bonnets or expensive hair products. I'm broke. Any who, Over the course of maybe 2 years, I have the hair products I need for my hair. Usually on the weekends, I wear my hair in buns because I'm not trying to impress anyone. I have to wake up early in the morning to go to school but sometimes I wake up late. I have school. I can't be waitin 40 minutes for my hair to dry and just pop out a diffuser in school. I just wet my hair in the bathroom sink, put some leave-in conditioner and moisturizer by Cantu, some Argan Oil by Orgnx (I think that's the name). There is this product called Nature's Gate and It's amazing. It leaves your hair so smooth and shiny. My hair takes me like 5 minutes. Once a month if I'm not lazy, I put on a masque and then the next week, have an oil treatment.
CrazyOreo you have to remember not everyone has the same curl type. And what works for your curls may not work for another curly. Thats what makes us curly girls unique :)
i tried the detangling & deep condition thing u did to your curly hair, i have wavy/relaxed hair, & when i did the i was 3weeks post on my relaxer, i did what you did, & it felt like i just got a relaxer, but im twisting my hair to make it curlier. ILOVE YOU LIFE SAVER!
Hey Maya! I loved this video it really worked for me ... since my mom passed away i had to always go to salons because i didnt know how to wear my hair or style it myself once it was wet ... thanks to you I can now embrace my curls and have gotten so many complements at school.
handle what? what's the problem? i'm still dealing with fears and stuff. i don't think those will ever go away but i don't let it stop me from moving forward :)
Wow, your hair is just gorgeous!!! And you are hilarious, love the spunk! I stopped relaxing my hair over 10 years ago and my natural curl pattern has not returned. I am seriously considering the big chop and then start from scratch.
Your hair is pretty much exactly the same as mine, and I don't think you know how exciting it is for me to see videos that cater to me! Perfect routine, I'll give it a try.
Your hair is beautiful! And I love your sense of humor lol! Im the same way all day! Thank you for your video. It really helped me with how to manage my curls better. My hair is on the thinner side. I use the same products and I love them. Not greasy but holds moisture wonderfully. Blessings to you always!
Shameless Maya is too beautiful with her lush curls! :D Thanks for the video btw too. I have been trying to find something to hold my curls w/out getting frizz and am still on my natural journey but I will give this a try :)
You have Beautiful hair! I wish my mom had more patience with my hair when i was growing up because at 10 years old my hair was big, poufy and CURLY. And from what i remember my texture wasnt bad it was just big lol. But my mom insisted i get a perm because my hair was allll over the place and different from her hair and my sister's hair. Im currently transitioning and im embracing my curls and cant wait to be fully natural.
New subscriber and I just had to watch most of ur videos and I enjoyed all of the ones I was able to watch cause couldn't watch all of 'em in one day. You are very blessed and a blessing to me. Very beautiful and pray u succeed in all things.
*sigh* I wish my mother was like you when I was younger. I'm half-Filipino and half-black (and a whole lot of other stuff too, lol), and ever since I was like six, she began straightening my hair. I didn't really grow up around my black family members (and even then, they don't really seem to care about curls), so I never knew how to deal with my hair. I'm totally not blaming anyone, but I really don't think my mother understood how to take care of my hair, and so figured that straightening it would be a great way to get it under control (so thankful she never relaxed it). Anyway fast-forward to 2017, I'm sixteen now, and I've jumped onto the whole naturalista band. Love my hair, love the curls, love everything. I know it's only been a few months, but I'm always filled with envy whenever I see girls with beautiful, defined curls (especially you, Shameless, since we have the same hair type), but I have to remember that it'll definitely take tons of time before my hair is at this level. You're my role model for gorgeous hair, and I really look forward to having hair like yours. (Lol, sorry for this whole paragraph on this old video, and I know you're short-haired fabulous Shameless now, who's just as gorgeous now, if not more!)
Omg, last night I was thinking of how you did your hair when i went natural last night. I am also biracial. My father is white and my mother is black. I put coconut oil 7 hawaiian silk to keep it looking healthy and feel healthy. And i put it in a bag an hour & it came out great. Thank you. I love you (:
I agree with shynese walker. You inspired me to embrace my curls and natural beauty. And helped me learn how to take better care of my curls cause that was always an issue with me. Thanks :)
Your hair is beautiful, exactly like mine. My hair suddenly started to come out. I didn't clip my ends may be the reason. I lost all my crown again and length as well. I am learning not to use so many products and I dyed to get rid of gray. Thank you for all the great tips.
I'm loving the video, Im int he process of goin natural, haven't had a relaxer in 10 months, but I'm scared to do the big chop, but this video is oerfect for my daughter's hair!!!!!! I love it!!!
Your hair is so pretty!!! I need to get a diffuser for my 9 year old we have the curly hair routine down until the last step a diffuser. Girl I'm going to get my baby one right nah.
your beautiful without your hair and I'm 15 and I am a model and I've always wished i could have hair like you had and your videos ands the one from 3 weeks ago just made me open my eyes and learn to be shameless. Thank you Maya you rock !!!

At least it's not an Afro which you can't comb through at all
Her hair is no better then your, your just as beautiful with your NATURAL hair Queen.
***** Thank you so much, I appreciate it! And I didn't mean life would be sweet because her hair is better, it just seems a bit easier to manage than my hair. I still love my hair to pieces though! lol
She cut all that gorgeous hair 😩

I still watch this video from time to time 💕 love you maya
Emma Peralta, omg me too! One of my first and my favorite curly hair tutorial video!!!
Girl I have been watching and rewatching your curly hair routines for a year now. I've already found out my hair routine but you're just so darn amazing to watch.

I hate the fact that I found you after you did the major chop. I chopped mine off to be trendy not for health but I am growing it back natural and you have helped me a lot with the mixture of brands and not biased products from brand name sites or endorsed sites. Thanks Hun
Just found this channel, this girl is so lovable lol!
it prevents the curls from flying all over the place. the air is 'diffused' creating more defined curls instead of frizz :)
She resembles Gina Rodriguez, (Jane from Jane The Virgin) anyone agree? She's beautiful!
Jalena Nicole she does kinda look like her
yes
Jalena Nicole they're both funny too
you can google them both! i bought the Vatika Oil in Jackson Heights and Parnevu on 125th in Harlem
Omg I NEED your hair texture like now

if your hair doesn't unravel, make sure it's completely dry, then gently separate the curls with your fingers :)
I asked for the Shea Moisture products for Christmas because I have super curly hair and I used the Curl Enhancing Smoothie and I loved it
the dog at the end! omg, almost died, so adorable.
Loved the vid, your hair n silliness
You look good with short hair, but I miss your longer hair, because you had the best curly hair routine videos to go with it! Lol
You were literally the 1st Curly TH-camr I saw on TH-cam.. Then i got obsessed with all the other curly hair videos other people had. Your video has changed my hair routine. I get so many compliments on my curly hair and it was thanks to your tips. Thanks to you I can now tame my fabulous curls :)
Who else cringed when she used the brush
Why
demetrias harmonize Do you have Straight or Curly hair?
Violet curly
I use a paddle brush when my hair is wet
demetrias harmonize I'm assuming your hair isn't very curly then, because i don't use brushes do to how much hair it causes to come out.
they sell them at the drug stores here in NY but check online if you don't live in the US
don't get me wrong, your short hair is HAWWWWT, but I find myself missing your curly hair videos
i have a video in my curly hair playlist "5 tips for healthy, bouncy curls"
Has anyone ever told you that you look like Sydney Park?

THE QUEEN OF CURLY HAIR!! I miss it
i have been straight for 13 years, almost my whole life XD, but now i decided to go to my curly side and i bought a bunch of products trying to get defined curls but its been hard, my hair stays straight at the front and sometimes it gets frizzy in back. they looks like fake curls :c :l , what would u suggest me?
Leidy Bocio It' s great that you're trying to wear your curls! I went through something similar so maybe I can help. Were you straightening it with heat or getting perms to straighten it?
i used heat.

thank u so much. i'll do definitely the braids, but what is the LOC method?
You're welcome! Doing those braids will help blend the texture of your hair and make your hair look consistent throughout. LOC stands for Leave-in, Oil, and Cream. It's a method for sealing in moisture. You first apply a leave-in conditioner, then an oil(coconut, argan, etc.), and finally a cream(like the Shea Moisture creams that Maya used in this video). And I am super proud I never put any chemicals or relaxers in her hair!
+Aleksandra Sidel I glad you don't either, that can/will ruin a person's hair.
Who's watching in 2017?
2018!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
2019
LOL. ur personality is through-the-roof in this video. love it
Your hair looks like my hair wen its wet
Same here.
my mom is filipino and yes she had to treat my hair differently than hers. she always put coconut oil in my hair since i was young :) my dad is black
Adri'Ana M Of course but sooner or later you will get lazy and try to find the easiest way and strategy for your curly hair.
CrazyOreo over time most curlies do find products and strategies that work for them. :)
Chill
your hair is so fxcking beautiful, thanks for the tips, and laughs haha
Binge watch time😂😌
coconut oil makes it very reflective :)

what the efffff how do u keep your curls so defined omg literally every curl is perfectly perfecttt
I agree with shynese walker. You inspired me to embrace my curls and natural beauty. And helped me learn how to take better care of my curls cause that was always an issue with me. Thanks :)
thank you :) and my hair was amazing

Great tips! You are so funny especially towards the end "this is all for free!" "But you gotta pay" lol
Your hair is beautiful, exactly like mine. My hair suddenly started to come out. I didn't clip my ends may be the reason. I lost all my crown again and length as well. I am learning not to use so many products and I dyed to get rid of gray. Thank you for all the great tips.
