  • Elzetta makes The Toughest Flashlights on the Planet. Two keys to this extreme durability are Solid Acrylic Optical Lenses (see Vlog episode 5) and fully potted electronics. This Vlog explains electrical potting and why it is absolutely necessary for making an LED flashlight tough enough for true tactical use. While potted electronics may be a hidden feature, the difference in durability becomes abundantly apparent when things get rough. If you trust your life to your flashlight, demand fully potted electronics.

Elzetta makes some awesome flashlights and weapon light mounts. Once I finally bought my first Elzetta, I liked it more than I thought. I then upgraded my Charlie to the AVS head. That was an awesome upgrade. Good throw, good spill and the acrylic lens is pretty unique. I like it a lot.

Does the potting affects the heat dissipation ability of the flashlight? Thanks for the great vídeo, educational and very entertaining as always!!!

The potting compound we use enhances heat transfer and keeps the electronics from developing hot spots that would reduce reliability.

You guys need to find a distributor or two here in the UK, I would love to have a closer look at your flashlights.

Steve Clark Why would you want a flashlight filled with glue that you can't fix?

Does potting and water sealing apply to the bones model?

I my experience filling electonics with silicone =(potting) makes it overheat and not laxt long enough how long does your potted stuff work?

    • @ElzettaDesign

Our potting compound is thermally conductive and actually reduces hot spots on the circuit boards thereby increasing longevity. We do not use silicone.
