What fabulous projects, so inspiring! With color dominance you identify which color is more of the background and which you want to pop off the background. With a 2 color sweater like misurina - the contrast colorwork in the yoke would be dominant and you'd want that to pop, the main color or non dominant would recede. All you really need to do is hold the dominant color in your left hand and the non dominant in your right. Took me years to figure out. It's subtle but definitely makes a difference.
Even though I am already knitting Pressed Flowers, I love your kit and may have to cast on another! Ever since I started knitting over 15 years ago, my reading time has really diminished. Thank goodness for good tv! Love the podcast.
I knit two socks simultaneously on two sets of needles too. It works for me. I enjoyed seeing your projects. Thanks! I know hot flashes are the worst, but at some point they will be nothing but a distant memory. Hang in there!
Gina, you make me smile. It makes sense that you make the special once in a while because that's what makes it special. Currently I only have the mental bandwidth for seemingly mindless things. I tried reading my book and had no idea what I was reading. I'm down for knitting and watching things I don't have to concentrate on. I look forward to your next episode.
Always excited when your notification pops on. Knitting the Sea Glass tee for Kristy's mini march KAL and the upside down sweater too.. I love love seeing your projects! - Kimberly
Love your Don’t Look Up sweater - a home run. Love the Kettle Black worsted too - great idea! I just planned a classic cast on myself. Love the idea of alternating between play and timeless.
I missed that podcast. I have only seen a few of yours. I have come back because 1 your knit beautifully and 2 you crack me up. but I am older than you. I think you are gorgeous. but thats really not important. I learned a lot during this pandemic. Just be happy with yourself, be the best you. Treasure family and friends
Love seeing you and hearing about the family. It's so hard to believe that Ben is of driving age and Marcella will be a teen on the next birthday. I have started my channel. Love the projects. You are beautiful.
I love the Posh & Nutmeg combo too - something about that lovely warm grounding colour contrasted by the bright pop of pink. Love it so much! And, I’m so tempted to join you and knit a Willa or two - they’ll be great for the 5 days of summer we get over here in Scotland! The rest of the time I can layer them - lol. As for what I’m knitting right now, I’m re-knitting the hem on my Rock It Tee. I ripped back the icord and now I’m knitting in rib with plans for a tubular bind off. Think I’ll much prefer that look and it’ll become a wearable piece for me. Anyway, sending lots of love to you, Gina - I always so enjoy hanging out with you. xxxx
So glad you are feeling better about the aging thing! ❣️ LOVED all of your beautiful projects, and thank you for the TV and book suggestions! 😀 Always love your podcasts! ❣️ Just finished Larksmeadow, a beaded lace shawl from Boo Knits, and am knitting a Shift Cowl today.
OMG, your podcasts are the best💕. Your favorite sweater is on my list. I saw that same movie and wish I could find more of the sweaters she was wearing. Keep podcasting, love you❤
Always inspired by your beautiful projects♥️ You told me to get myself a Baby Grand, so I just did!😂 Can’t wait to see it in person! Thanks for a great podcast ..
I always enjoy watching your episodes. As I’ve said before you are just so real and say what’s on your heart and mind. I’m older than you (much!) and in a different season but we all go through this together😊 I have the Willa pattern but haven’t made it. Seeing yours makes me want to get one started. And I’ve loved Pressed Flowers since it came out, and your yarn colors make it gorgeous 🥰. Looking forward to the next one!
Loved your latest podcast and your projects are AMAZING! The color combination on your sweater is stunning! I am working on the Astraeus sweater and can hardly wait to finish so that I can start the Suvi Knits Striped sweater using your perfect color palette mini skein set. I’m also making Vanilla Latte socks (two at a time on 9” Chaiogoo circs) using a fun self-striping colorway called ‘ Spooky Pumpkins’ from Timber yarns. Soooo fun! Finally, my fall back blanket project is the Stained Glass mitered square blanket which eats up all of my scraps and advent skeins. I love that each square has a slim black border which sets it apart visually from all of the other mitered square blankets.
OMG.. I need to get my sh** together and get back to that shawl. I agree..I think it's the prettiest knit ever for me it's bc of your yarn!! Kim PS love the list of "experiences ..." lol
I’m doing my first colorwork sweater and I don’t understand the color dominance either. I’m just so happy I did the colorwork part without having to redo anything 😃 You are beautiful and have a lovely weekend.
Lovely pressed flowers shawl and your color work sweater is so pretty! I just finished my first color work sweater, the Arboreal by Jennifer Steingass. Now I love to knit color work, but haven’t tried 3 colors in a row, ugh!
Re: color dominance- my understanding is by holding the one you want to “pop” in your right hand, it moves that stitch slightly forward in the fabric. Re: you only dating older men should you outlive Dave, I have high hopes for you being a cougar later in life. 😜 and I say that with the utmost love and respect for you. 😘😋
I love your podcasts! I always look forward to seeing what you’re working on because it often inspires my next knit. :) I also made the Hitofude cardigan but I was lazy and didn’t alternate the skeins so there’s a visible line. I didn’t notice it until blocking. Your pressed flowers shawl is gorgeous! I finished my pressed flowers shawl in January and will cast on another. I’m currently working on the Yara shawl by Natasja Hornby. I’m about to cast on the No Frills by Petite Knit and the Swallowtail by Jamie Hoffman. Oh, I’m getting close to finishing Float by Dawn Barker and I just got more yarn to make another color pooling shawl. And I’m nearly done with the half and half triangle wrap. That’s taking forever! I’m looking forward to your next podcast to see what you’re working on! Happy knitting until next time. :)
I haven't done this for a long time, but my favorite way to fight second sock syndrome is to knit to the heel, put it on waste yarn, knit the second sock, then pick up and finish the first sock. I did that for a long time. I like knitting magic loop, but two at a time is more than I want to handle. I could do two simultaneously on DPNs, but not sure I have enough short circulars. OR I can just bite the bullet and do then one after the other.
I just love your podcasts! Thanks so much for sharing your life along with sharing your absolutely beautiful knits. A possible sweater pattern you could check out is Louvre by Petite Knits - simple turtleneck raglan sweater with somewhat balloon sleeves. By the way, the added captions gave me a real chuckle 🤭 Thanks again!
Love your podcasts! Need to head to your website and check out some of the kits - maybe the Willa but also want to make the Pressed Flowers Shawl - love your colors. Sheep Camp Sweater on my needles right now and then joining in on the #HandmadeMAL by Traveling Yarn.
My hitofude is one of my favorites too! Don’t know if I could give it away. I couldn’t find the link for the free sweater you are knitting in color work pattern.
Love all the things you are working on, so, so beautiful!! The sweater you want to make with that gorgeous black yarn, you mentioned “turtle neck”. Are you crazy? Hot flashes, dahling! Hot F-L-A-S-H-E-S!!!!!! But otherwise yummy yarn and will be stunning no matter what you make.
I didn't understand the color dominance either until I did the advent sweater. I could see the dominance in one section where it was 1 color, then the next color with just 1 stitch for each color.
I don't worry about colour dominance, I knit willy-nilly and it looks great. If you look up Arne & Carlos' opinion on it, they don't believe in it, they say if a colour is dominant it's because of poor tension 😁
Love Severance! We just started and hooked. Thanks for keeping it real about aging. I was always told it’s a game changer once you turn 50 and that is no lie. Add onto to that I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the start of the pandemic 🤦🏻♀️ talk about body changes. Oh my word! I’m learning to roll with it and I don’t look like my younger self at all. Getting used to the new, evolving me. Gotta love Bowies song “Changes” right? 🥴🤣
Gina I want to copy you on that Purl Soho Linen Quill yarn. Perhaps Miromesnil by Cleonis on Ravelry? Keep us posted! I've been wanting to try that yarn!
I think you should tell Karen that you have another sweater for her if she returns the one she borrowed for Rhinebeck. Then your time was not wasted knitting an acrylic sweater.
Everyone says Payton’s Kroy yarn is more like a sport weight yarn. I usually do size one 72 inches with fingering have any recommendations on how I would deal with a thicker yarn to get gauge? Maybe smaller needles or less stitches? I might look up some patterns for sport weight. Thanks
Lmfao!!!! You’re hilarious. You can’t trust “Karen’s” love your knitting. When one buys a “Kit” is the pattern included? I’ll check out your webpage. I LOVE your podcasts 🤣 and your knitting!!!
Hi Gina: Love all your beautiful projects! I love the Mustache yarn stripe socks. I hope the dyer is selling them! Did you use the 30 stitch markers to knit the Whitmoor sweater you knitted in acrylic? I failed knitting that sweater because the stitch markers kept on moving with the yarnovers and the stitch count and last set of design were way off! I have not build up confidence to knit it again yet! I am knitting another pair stripe socks with advent minis and leftover scrapes with contrasting cuffs, heels, and toes. I enjoyed the first pair so much, that I am trying to destress from all the craziness NYC is experiencing with unprovoked violence attacks, unprovoked racial attacks, and the uneasiness of the war with beautiful gradient of colors I am creating knitting the stripe sock. I am so glad you decided not to do the face lifts and use the money to have memorable experience with your kids. They grow up real fast, they will be on their own before you know it and you will miss them! You will probably experience empty nest syndrome, too. Being there, done that! Happy knitting and enjoy all that you are bless with! Thanks for sharing! ❤️❤️
Colour dominance is very confusing - as an English Knitter I actually hold both colours in my right hand, so all those people telling us that the dominant colour is the one in the left hand - well thats no help. I finally found a great Brooklyn Tweed tutorial on You Tube and he explained it well - sorry didnt save. the way I do it is that the one I want to pop - the 'dominant' I have on the right and the nondominant (my MC) is the one I loop OVER the dominant colour. Will try and find the tutorial which will explain it better
I can only repeat, we have to do it like french women...put red lipstick on, like italian women...put silky underwear on, I can't remember, Joan Collins talked about wrinkles ;) And maybe a new colour scheme in our wardrobe will help, too, some changes, instead of struggeling. I am so sad that the shipping costs are so high for europe, great new yarncolours! Have a nice day, NANA :)
Magic Loop, ugh! I’m working on sock cuff and I’ve just noted my ribbing seems inside out. Just how? Hate the damned Loop right now, Hot flashes make me feel awesome when I’m at work and someone sees me turn red and sweaty. Six years and going strong! Those bitches that don’t have hot flashes …….🤬
I wrote you a long response about face lifts and I don’t think you got it! Your episode was finished and it just went somewhere…. First-you are a beautiful woman and do NOT need any knife to your face or neck. I am 81 years old -check out my photo-and everyone I know who has botoxed up and/or has had a facelift, looks dreadful! I inherited my mothers skin and it is basically unwrinkled and I am happy for any sagging or wrinkles I get! My advice to you, sweet friend, leave your skin alone. You are beautiful and will remain so! PS-I love your podcasts! Hugs from northern Virginia!
Love you skeincocaine. Always looking for you and happy when I find you again. You make me laugh.

@@theskeincocaine HAHAHA! The last picture I just took on my phone is of the two year old sitting on top of me while I was resting.

From what I understand Color dominance is a tension issue especially if using two hands, one will be looser than other and that is the dominate color.
I love your podcasts!
