    My PlayHouse is a channel where i will show, what i am working on. I have this house, it is 168 Square Meters / 1808.3ft² and it is full, of half-finished projects.
    I love working with heating, insulation, Servers, computers, Datacenter, green power, alternative energy, solar, wind and more. It all costs, but I'm trying to get the most out of my money, and my time.

    Congratulations on acquiring one of these servers, Morten. Here in the U.S. when I last looked at used ones to purchase, they were still selling for around $1,000 and up depending on configurations. I shall be excited to see all of your upgrades and ninja hacks to this server!

    16:25 - If it's similar to older models the connector is more likely the backplane-management. I upgraded a M2ish some time ago to 12 bay and am pretty sure the IBM-kit contained a Y-cable for power.

    I recently purchased a pair of Intel Xeon E5-2970's, 8-core 16-thread 2.6GHz (turbo 3.3GHz) socket LGA2011 processors. I don't know if they would be compatible with your server but they're ridiculously cheaper than Intel's recommended price (because they're old: Intel "End of Life") I picked them up for $400USD($200USD each) and plan to use them in a overkill home data server.

    The internal USB near the Onboard Raid istfor using when you've got a tape drive for backups like LTO 5-to-7.

    Awesome server. it will run very nice on a couple of cheap e5 2670 (8 core 16 threads of pure sweetness)
    edit: the connector on 16:39 looks like a USB 3 header.

    • @anthonym10
      @anthonym10 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly what I was thinking, 2670's would make this server a powerhouse. My concern would be the power supplies handling it though. My dual 2670's build pulls well over 750w but that's running a gfx card, and a lot more other stuff that this server isn't running. With the 550w PS's in this server I do think it would be taxing them.

    • @Joe72Bug
      @Joe72Bug 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have this server (3 of them actually) with dual 2670's from the factory, they are equipped with dual 750 watt PSU's instead of the 550's here. I'm running one firepro W7100, one W5100 and a V3900 in one and never ran into any power troubles. I only have 6 drive bays occupied though, I would suspect adding more drives would stress it.

      Joe72Bug Awesome comment and facts.
      My PlayHouse Seems a great pairing to me as long as you're mindful of your power supplies. It wouldn't hurt to meter the wattage pulled from the wall during a stress test after the cpu change to see how close you're getting to that 550w.
      I run a lot of things you won't be to pull 750w, a gtx980, water cooling, lighting, 10 drives and have all 7 pci slots in use. Motherboard I/O and power delivery pretty much maxed.
      I think your choice of 2660's is just about perfect to max out them power supplies. Goodluck!

    • @MyPlayHouse
      @MyPlayHouse  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anthony M
      I do not need to run every thing in just one server. You can change the PSU´s from redundant to double and get more power and no reduantens. Well lets see how long I get with 550W

    Excellent video as usual! Been looking at Lenovo servers since seeing them in action on your videos. Regarding drives, the selection of drives that Lenovo offer on their servers is obviously a bit limited and massively pricey, is there any reason not to choose my own enterprise type drives and stick them into empty caddies? A drive is a drive really and Lenovo ones are just other mfr's rebranded. they don't make it obvious about warranties and getting empty caddies!

      is the Frequency optimised 6 core version , if your going to be putting a GPU in it and using it for rendering thats what i would go for . Most video rendering software still only uses a few cores so the clock speed will give better performance.

    Good morning mate.
    All right ?
    I'm from Brazil, and my English level is basic, so I write through Google translator.
    I always follow your videos, and I confess that your content helps me a lot.
    I would like to ask for help regarding the Server here at the company where I am responsible.
    We have an IBM System X3650 M4, where we have made several memory, disk and processor upgrades.
    Today, all disks are in RAID 0, that is, each disk represents a unit.
    My C: drive (disk 0) is experiencing some issues. And my doubt is, how to make a clone of this disk and replace it correctly with a new disk.
    My controller is the M5110e, and I'm struggling to get it successfully.
    Any tips or suggestions?
    Thank you very much for now.
    Hugs from a fan, here in Brazil.

    I just found one of these at work that I can take. I’m guessing in 2022 this is just completely underpowered? Or is having server grade hardware still worth it, even if it’s updated? My other choice for a Plex server is an Optiplex with an i5-5700.
