Angelina has just hit 1 million monthly listeners on spotify for the first time. Of course, this number is fluid and can rise or fall, but with her new music on the way, it will help to keep her heading in an upward direction. Another thing I was waiting to find out was who her new music was released under, and it appears that Bad Valentine will be under Toby's record label Kite Records, and not Republic Records.
Great news! Interesting that Toby's record label Kite Records and not Republic Records will release Bad Valentine. I think he was waiting for the respective legal teams to work out the details. I wonder if Bad Valentine was one of the 8 songs that Toby and Angelina had worked on but were never included in her EP, or if it was a new song they developed later on? Probably the latter. Apparently, it had hit Toby pretty hard after all the work they had put in together that nothing was included in her EP. Good to see he's taking care of himself, and I assume Angelina, with this release. Toby did say that he and Angelina were working on new material together. It would be awesome if they presented that at Angelina's upcoming concert at The Alex!! And officially launched the release of Bad Valentine at that time, Sept 20!
@KenChawkin James Theil verified with Toby that Bad Valentine was one of the 8 songs they worked on 2 years ago. At the Hotel Cafe, Toby said that they were working on new material and one of the songs they were going to release was Bad Valentine. Now that we know that Bad Valentine was already almost two years old and technically not new, my feeling is that he just didn’t feel comfortable saying at the show that they had already recorded new songs but the label didn’t release them. These songs, and possibly other unreleased songs were recorded for Republic so UMG probably owns them unless they sold them. Why it was decided to not release the songs at the time we don’t know. We also don’t know if Angelina and Toby actually worked on more songs since then, except of course If I Were a Boy for Toby’s album. Do we know for a fact that Bad Valentine is being released under Toby’s label or is it just speculation? We also don’t know how many new songs are being released next month and how many are songs worked on with Toby. There are many producers that Angelina works with. We should have more answers soon.
@KenChawkin Back in May, when we first learned that Toby was working with Angelina, I started searching for information about his career. The fact that he has a strong jazz background is, I think, very important as he is more likely to understand Angelina's vision of the type of music she wants to make. As for why Republic decided not to use the songs that he and Angelina had submitted, I honestly don't know. I do have some theories about it, but I will keep them to myself. I personally believe that Angelina and Toby are a good fit when it comes to music, and I'm looking forward to hearing what they have in store for us.
@pjg58x I try my best not to speculate when it comes to Angelina. I found the information on Amazon Digital Music. Bad Valentine Toby Gad and Angelina Jordan Kite Records. I tried to pre save, but it wouldn't work for me.

Nice compilation, Steve! I was surprised that Bad Valentine will also be released by Toby's Kite records, I did not expect that. Thought it makes sense with some things Toby had said and done in those last couple months (or the other way round?).
@@most2dot0 Thank you! I appreciate the huge amount of AJ research you've done and published for us all to enjoy. Kite Records publishing BV does make sense, but likely required some negotiating with Angelina's label.
Do we know for sure that Bad Valentine is being released under Kite? Not sure if it makes sense as far as Republic is concerned. Why would Republic not just release a song like this themselves?
@@pjg58x As I understood it, that's what is or was indicated on iTunes when Steve saw it there. Now, he wrote it was briefly listed, as if it was gone afterwards, so maybe there is a very tiny chance that it was removed because the entry contained errors? I don't have iTunes myself... However, it also appears as if James Thiel hat communicated with Toby about the picture used, and I think Toby's answering that also indicates, that he is in charge of this release. However, but that is *pure speculation* on my side: it could be, that like of If Were A Boy, there will be a second "Artist's version", which both of could be included (later/same time?) on an Angelina album by Republic. In case of Bad Valentine it might even be the original recording from 2022. As an alternative, maybe Angelina's contract with Republic gives her the right to publish some originals that Republic passes on on her own/elsewhere? Again, this is *pure speculation*!
@most2dot0 I just checked iTunes. Bad Valentine is available for pre order with expected release September 20, the day of the concert. I pre ordered. The picture is pretty cool. Angelina is in a 50s Corvette convertible. The artist is listed as Toby Gad and Angelina Jordan, and yes, it is under Kite Records. It kind of bothers me that it’s not just Angelina’s name because it wasn’t originally recorded to be a joint release. Maybe because it’s on Toby’s record label? Oh well, I guess as long as it’s released. I guess Kite bought the rights from Republic/UMG. Why would Republic let the song go? Why was the full album never released last year as she has said it would. Does Republic still have plans for her? It will be interesting to see what other new music is being released and what label it will be under.
Hey Steve! Thanks for staying so dialed in on Angelina’s career. I met you at the Vibrato Jazz Grille in June. Hoping to see you at the Alex September 20th. BTW, as of right now I have a couple of extra tickets available if you know of someone interested.
@@robertanderson6494 hi Bob! I remember meeting before the Vibrato concert. You and your son Ian were in Vegas right? And Ian is shown in 10 Years in the Making. Exactly right Steve! Meeting my HS friend again who lives in Malibu. Meeting him near the venue at the Carousel Restaurant prior to the concert if you don’t have any plans.
That was great. It’s interesting how we knew so little about what had been going on behind the scenes.i think the most surprising thing for us fans was when we found out a few weeks ago from Toby’s interview that he and Angelina started working together when she was 16. From his comments at the Hotel Cafe I think we all thought that this was all new and that they were currently working on new material. They actually may be for all we know. But I think Toby didn’t feel right in saying that they had actually already recorded 8 songs but Republic didn’t release them. So basically Toby was just one of several producers she was working with a couple years ago for her album. When the decision was made to release an EP instead of an album (why this decision was made we don’t know) of course some songs had to be left unreleased. This turned out to be all 8 songs that Toby and Angelina worked on and who knows, there may be other songs left off that she worked on with other producers. Shortly after in a live stream she said that the full album would be coming out very soon. Of course that never happened. I suppose some day we’ll find out why and by whom all these change in plans were made. Since these unreleased songs were apparently completed as long as 2 years ago, I wonder if she re-recorded any of the vocals. Toby commented on the texture of her live voice. My hope is that the label doesn’t destroy that with autotune or pitch correction which, for whatever reason, has unfortunately become the industry standard today, even if an artist doesn’t need it and is also sometimes done without the artist’s knowledge.
@@pjg58x Agree with all you said. She may not have final decision making on the produced tracks, but bet she would at least try to push back against use of pitch correction. I have seen on some of her tiktoks she has included a hashtag #noautotune. I'm sure it's a source of pride for her. And as she gets further into what will almost certainly be a very successful career, she'll have the negotiating power to get final say over production, if she doesn't already.
That’s great that she feels that way. It’s criminal to use that kind of software for a voice like Angelina’s. I’ve also read that it’s being done to Freddie Mercury and Celine Dion. Why is that even necessary, especially for old recordings? So frustrating especially when the CD artist has no control over it. I would like to hear a really detailed explanation by a record label and producer as to why they automatically use that kind of software on almost everything.
@@pjg58x Completely agree. It's probably some combination of competitive pressures, lack of deep musical appreciation by young producers, trendiness, and some laziness by artists who no longer need to hone their craft like Angelina has.
❤️❤️❤️❤️👣 As a relatively new angel of only about a year, it seems to me that Republic has not done nearly enough to promote Angelina. I know that her family had concerns about over promotion when she was younger, but since the release of the statement making Old Enough, I would have thought that they would have heavily promoted her. Now, to learn that much was left off of that release is discouraging. If Republic uses Autotune on her voice, it would be criminal! Thank you for this video, Steve. It would be my honor to meet you and other angels in September. Unfortunately, due to obligations at home, I will only be able to fly in for the concert and then quickly fly back home to Texas. My cousin, who is flying to LA with me, and I are looking forward to this concert. Hopefully, Angelina will release more of her collaborative efforts through Republic soon.😊
@@Pyanfar Thank you, and hope to meet you during your short stay in LA ... at least you'll be there for the most important part, the concert. I also am puzzled by Republic Records. Hoping a full album gets out to the world soon and the RR promotion engine finally kicks into gear.

❤️❤️❤️❤️👣 It was nice to speak briefly with you at the concert. Yes, I am a fairly new angel, a little more than a year. This young woman has rocked my musical world in the best of ways. Thank you for all that you have done and will do to promote this magical young lady. I sincerely believe that she is the most versatile and skilled singer active today. Anyone who can shift me from Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones to not just AJ but Amy Winehouse, Etta James, and Nina Simone just has to be magical!
@SteveAckerman-ly3qg You may have a point about her being the best ever, but there are some well-known jazz singers that I haven't heard yet. Haven't gotten to Diahna Washington yet, for example. Have you listened to Diana Krall yet? She is not as good as AJ, I don't think, but she is pretty good. She's Elvis Costello's wife. Thanks to accidentally finding Angelina a whole new musical world that I hadn't previously known about is there for me to explore. Since listening to so much AJ often when I hear another singer, I think to myself, "something is missing. " That's the Angelina magic that others just don't have.❤️❤️❤️❤️👣
@@Pyanfar I can't say I've done an exhaustive study of female vocalists, but I have listened to most of the jazz greats since finding Angelina - Billie, Ella, Dinah Washington, Nina Simone, Etta James. I've heard a couple by Diana Krall. Listened to Norah Jones. In most cases I find 3-4 songs that I really like and now listen to occasionally. In contrast to about 150 of Angelina's. There's just no comparison; she's the total package. And we get to enjoy her before the rest of the world has woken up to her talent. Keep pinching myself to make sure it's not all a dream. 😇
@SteveAckerman-ly3qg You are probably right. I usually also end up finding a few songs that I like. There are mabye two songs by AJ that I don't like. There are many recordings that I wish were better, but that has nothing to do with her. I listened to everything on Spotify by Mylie Cyrus and came away with 5 songs that I like. I like almost all of the collaborative songs by Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson and a couple of others. I think you are a lot further along than me in exploring this music. But so far, it tracks with your experience. I think Angelina just has something that others don't and have racked my brain for the answer to what that might be and how she can affect me so deeply almost every time I hear her voice. Yes, I have watched a lot of Wrapped In A Warm Blanket, but they aren't any closer to the answer than I am, I don't think. I have asked several reactors and especially vocal coaches how they might explain the phenomenon, but usually they have no idea or don't reply. No matter how many times I tell myself to just enjoy the experience and not worry about the how, my mind comes back to it again.
We know that she said that there will be new music being premiered at the concert. We don’t know how many songs but I was hoping that she would release Bad Valentine before the concert date to create some buzz and maybe drive up ticket sales. Some fans had suggested that Bad Valentine should be nominated for a Grammy next year. However today is the last day of the current eligibility period for the 2025 Grammy Awards. So we would have to wait for next year. Releases during the current eligibility period are Our Time, her Christmas EP and If I Were a Boy.
@@pjg58x Well there will be some pre-release buzz I bet! Pre-sale promotion. As for awards, it will be outside the Grammy eligibility period, BUT it will be eligible for an Ivors award - the rough British equivalent of the Grammys. I saw Angelina comment/hint to Toby in a social media post this past May about coming back to London next year to possibly win an award. But thst was puzzling - there needs to be a British connection like a songwriter from the UK. Well - the credits now being shown for the BV pre-sale list a 3rd co-writer named Charlotte Jane....who is from the UK 😇.

Team of 1 that pays close attention to everything AJ related, though there is a small cloud of angels who do the same and exchange information either directly or on the Facebook fan groups or on their own TH-cam channels. She's so inspiring and it's such a joy to follow her - I'm realizing a young performer's (especially THIS young genius) music career is full of twists, turns and surprises.😇❤️
Nice and well put-together video Steve. By the way, that post that you used from ronaldwong20, who is that guy? Oh wait, that's me! LOL 😂 Thanks for including me on this. I cannot wait for the official release of Bad Valentine...this song is so good! This collaboration with Toby should produce some great and amazing songs in the near future!
@@rw716 Thanks Ronaldwong20! I'm SO glad you asked Toby that question that way, which triggered the response from him that it did😇. Very cool to know how and when he first became aware of Angelina. And I completely agree on, well, that waitening 🙂 feeling about the BV release.....AND more from their collaboration. I think it has an excellent chance of being something long-lived.
Steve, well done!
😀😀😀😀😀
Thanks Steve!! 0 =)

@@TaylorSelene2000 Thanks Taylor. Angelina is the most amazing person (much less artist) I've ever known.
Awesome to hear you'll be able to be there in LA, I also wouldn't miss it. I'll keep those extra tickets in mind. Hope we can meet again there😇
Exactly right Steve! Meeting my HS friend again who lives in Malibu. Meeting him near the venue at the Carousel Restaurant prior to the concert if you don’t have any plans.
@@robertanderson6494 Bob, what row are those 2 tickets? I know a possibly buyer
Steve!
Steve, what a gift!! Thank you so much ❤

@@Pyanfar Great meeting you too! Your sentiments above mirror mine, except I'd replace "active today" with "I've ever heard".
Our angel Angelina is simply the best female singer in the world...IMO...👏👏😍
