    I have a 2011 bmw n54 323i, 2.5L Canadian version going 186,000 mile or 300,000 km. As you pointed out, Engine is super reliable, zero issue with transmission as well. However, a there are other part unrelated to engine or transmission that are not reliable . Through the years of driving the car, I replaced my rear differential, ignition coil, valve cover gasket, also replaced vanos system and timing chain. Vanos had a recall from BMW. But in term of engine and transmission. Zero issue. The other good thing is that the warning light when an issue comes up is very precise. just replace the part. Good to go. No time wasting in long diagnostic.

    I'm at 176k miles with my 2013 335i n55. I was pretty nervous but the PO seemed to take good care of it. And did a lot of freeway driving. I agree the engines them selves are solid, it's some of the components that struggle. Hell, my e28 is up at 385k miles. Haha and going strong 💪 The original engine made it to 350k.

      Whats the update on the 2013 BMW 335i?

    • @175dell
      @175dell 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@2stocke9x I sold my e28 😞 I regret it daily. My 335i is now at 194K, stage 1 tuned, upgraded downpipe, upgraded intercooler, upgraded diverter valve, short shifter kit for my 6MT. I do 5K oil changes on it. I did the oil pan gasket recently, that sucked. Haha It's still been really reliable. I don't beat on it like I did my e28 because the turbo drops off at around 5500 RPM. I love my F30 but it is true , driving a slow car fast can be more satisfying then driving a fast car fast.

      @@175dell f10 335i I blew my stock turbo at 140k miles. 150k miles. Transmission oil pan also needed replacement. Oil pan gasket also needs replacement. Valve cover gasket also needed to be replaced. Whats expected after 150k miles? What repairs did you do since you had the car ?

    • @175dell
      @175dell 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shadedaireh4478 I'm creeping up on 200k miles now. When I first got the car I did the usual maintenance. I replaced the plugs, coils, valve cover gasket, oil filter gasket, belt, tensioner and idler pulley, all of the fluids, air filter, and cabin filter (the old one was nasty). I did install some bolt on mods along the way as well. Recently I replaced the oil pan gasket (that sucked), differential seals, and a full brake job. I have a few items on my watch close list. I have some waste gate rattle, my electric fan sounds like the bearings are failing, and I learned my water pump and turbo are original. Other than that not a whole lot left to do for a while. I want to replace my timing chain/guides within the next 20k miles. BMW says they are life of the vehicle but BMW most likely means life of the warranty period.
      In my experience the N55 seems to be pretty reliable aside from the typical issues. It sounds like you've got the usual stuff covered. I hear the water pumps and high pressure fuel pumps are another weak point of these engines. I've had some issues with brittle plastic connectors on the coolant hoses and crank case breather hose. So the cooling system may become a weak point as these cars age. I would also invest in a cheap Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, they aren't super in depth but you can pull some basic codes of your car is acting funny.

    I think the biggest problem with N54 cars is those kinds of people who don't know much about cars. They don't know how to treat the car well in the first place. Then they go fbo and race it expecting it to last like their moms Camry. Comparing the RB or JZ engine for example, most of the accessories around the engine have probably been replaced in the last 20 years or so. While the N54 engines are just now reaching the point when stuff around it getting worn. All cars eventually reach that limit, moving parts, rubber, gaskets etc. are not ment to last forever, on any car let alone an abused performance machine.

    • @fohatadri
      @fohatadri 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If injectors are replaced on time, there is no reason for the engine to blow so I say it's still worth owning N54, considering the performance.

    I got 335i e92 2008 bought it from my brother in law few months ago..prior of me getting the car things been replaced are the water pump, thermostat, oil filter housing gasket and one transmission fluid change before 100k miles..now at 117k still running strong with original index 07 injectors..if those things weren’t replaced yet then that would set me back $1500 parts and labor..find a good n54 with good service record..i love my car

    Neighbors got a 2014 BMW 750xi....300,000 miles on the clock right now. Runs great almost all highway miles and used for a limo service. Goes through a quart of oil every 3,000 miles and I'm interested in finding out where it's going cause he wants only 5 grand for it.... seriously debating it

    • @175dell
      @175dell 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Freeway miles really are gentile compared to city miles. I'm almost at 200k on my 2013 335i. Majority of those miles are freeway. For the 750xi I would suspect the valve stem seals are leaking, which is a really expensive job. I heard they also have some other common oil leaks. With that many miles I would also expect a lot of brittle plastic under the hood, like plastic coolant hose connectors. If you would ever need to pull a cooling hose I would expect to have to replace it. Definitely get a pre purchase inspection on that one.

    • @jonc2914

    I only drive about 15,000 km a year. I have a 2008 528x. I've owned it since 2012. I've maintained it well. It's more expensive than a Japanese car to maintain. The BMW has cost me between 3-4 thousand a year. It's a love hate relationship. I love driving the car and have for the last eight years, and I'm not sure I would feel the same driving a Lexus ES 350.

    My 2008 BMW 335xi AT runs great, i just have this surging issue, bought the vehicle with a failed hpfp, also changed the water pump, But have never been able to fix the surging issue with light acceleration on the throttle. Even when i have the car in park if i try to hold my RPM at around 1400 rpm, its just not stable it will surge to 17-1800 and come back down. Looked the on live data and noticed that 02 sensor bank 1 sensor 2 (post cat) goes from 0.14-0.7 volts when surging. so there's definitely something going on with the AFR ratio. Please if anyone resolved this issue let me know!
