This does fix flat cells I reset batteries quite often I don’t use this method I use wires but it does seem to work brought a flat battery back to new condition charges to 21.5 v from flat so guess it does work but it’s a 50/50 not every time would it work but if you don’t try you’ll never know if you’ll have it working again so I’d recommend doing it but outside incase it reverses which they can if the battery becomes faulty but it’s up to the person who’s doing there choice of what they do with there battery but good luck to anyone resetting them and nice vid as well 👍

Nicads & Nickle metal hydroxides are only batts I "fry whiskers off" using an higher voltage for a "flash". Funny that Paul; my friend gave me his deWalt Post battery Nicad blackbox set ($1500 yrs ago) & bought Milwaukee/ No comparison he says. Hence sons & I are deWalt users. Amazing tools. For a number of years now I'm happy using a extension cord which never loses power... + I don't have to keep buying expensive batteries that have to be recycled once it can't be recharged. THIS is a good video in that it shows it is possible to get a little more life out of the pack. However there is a video out where the guy explained JUST because the drill spins DOES NOT mean the battery is GOOD. I thought why the hell not.HE SHOWED WHY.!!! you need to put the drill under a LOAD,TRY drilling a 1/2 hole in wood with pressure.IT may stop dead let off the pressure it runs.He explained it this way.IT takes 18 volts to spin the motor but very little amperage.THE AMPS the battery can keep putting out are what has the POWER.To do it right you really need to replace the cells that no longer have CAPACITY to hold amps.Hope this helps you guys that are like me and like to mess around getting stuff to work again for fun.

Yeah, internal resistance is another factor in batteries dying, anything from an old AAA zinc-carbon to a car battery. In flashlight batteries, over time gas bubbles build up around one terminal and that obviously limits the output current, I suspect something similar happens in nicads but I'm just guessing. It's independent from the reversible nickel crystal short circuits that can be zapped as seen in the video, but as the battery ages both processes occur.

I had several dead batteries, instead of this, remove the battery packs out of the cases, use a ohmmeter to see which doesn’t have any voltage (check after having on charger) and replace that cell from one of the other ones, most packs only have one dead cell keeping the battery from charging full. Just need a soldering iron. I’ve made 3 chargeable batteries saving $$$ until I run out of replacements.

This method worked fine for me with a 12V Li-Ion 2Ah Bosch battery, which seems to have good capacity after being revived and charged. It got overheated several times during charging after the initial boost presented in this video. I left it to cool down, and then resumed normal charging until full.
The battery was dead right from the start after unpacking the new drill, I am glad I kept it around until I saw this video, thank you!
I suspect that this method is very useful to get a battery out of a deeply discharged state, where the charger will not start doing it's job. What I mean is that it's not going to make wonders with a battery that has reduced capacity / dead cells after a lot of use.

It's not going to last. It you pull the case apart you'll find a pack of D size batteries inside all soldered together to make you the appropriate voltage. One of those cells has gone bad. You can buy them on line and solder in a new one. One other option is to completely remove the battery pack from inside, drill a small hole in the side of the case and run a pair of 10 or 12 ga wires through and attach them to the contacts inside. Now attach a pair of cable claps on the other ends , attach them to a 12v car battery and now you have a working drill for any remote areas.

My 20 years+ old Bosch drill/driver's battery (NiCd) packed up.
I sawed off the base of the pack and found 6 cells inside, wired in series.
Removed them with side cutters, making a drawing of where they went, polarity, etc.
Ordered 6 modern NiMH cells, with twice the Ah capacity and higher current capability (more power). They arrived fully charged in 48 hours.
Soldered them all back into the case (the cells have solder tags) and fastened them with the hot melt glue gun. Then glued the base back with Superglue, and painted over the cut to conceal the repair.
The old charger works fine with the new battery, you just have to time the charge using NiMH, and not leave it on permanently.
The repair saved me over £50, and my old Bosch drill works better than new with its upgrade!

My batteries will charge they just don't last long. I'm old school and hate battery devices so I bought a Honda 2200 generator for the back of my truck. My "battery" weighs about 50 pounds, fits every tool I own with more than enough power, and never needs charging. It even fits the house if the power goes out. That's what I call a battery!
FYI if you have a smaller generator that you use frequently it will start when you need it. I have a large generator that seldom gets started that may require work. Better to have a small one that starts than a large one that's sketchy.

This doesn't convince that the first dead battery has been rehabbed successfully. From the 1st result where the charger indicated "replace" to showing "fully charged" after only 5 min of additional scissor jumping, doesn't make sense, and your test showed it would drive the drill slowly. Do you have a follow-up video that verifies that the 1st dead pack ultimately accepted a full charge? Label me very curious but unconvinced yet. Thanks for the video though.

This trick is a hit and miss , much depends on how crystallized a cell or cells in the battery really are, but in no instance will it be the equal of an uncrystallized battery. I revived a couple batteries that had dropped to ZERO volts , initially the chargers would reject them without attempting to charge them but after tricking the chargers they began charging again .Still after all they will not charge past 15 volts no matter how many times this kind of trick is used, besides there is another way of doing this, much safer , and simpler without jumpers or scissors that avoids a possible short, and that is to plug the charger into a power strip with a an on off switch. Why it works as described below takes too long to explain and without knowing principles of charging the explanation will not be understood by many , so why waste the words ? The easier way is to plug the battery into the charger and then cycle the power strip switch on /off allowing the led on the charger to stay on only for a moment when it recognizes a load and then off again . After about 5 to 8 cycles the charger will go in to charge mode and the batteries will charge , but never to their original 21 volts surface charge when they were fresh , and they will not have the MAH that they once did . A Volt meter will tell you exactly what you have really accomplished , the battery will power the drill for a short duration under load but will fall flat again .

This video looses all credibility because the battery he uses is brand new. My batteries after a month certainly show they have been through visible use. What ever type of work this chap does it is not in a shop or on a job site.

Don't you think that this is similar to 'kicking a dead horse'?
Ni Cad batteries are obsolete,, so why waste your time? Heck, even Lithium ion batteries are being replaced these days too! Look for the newest polymer batteries now.
It's all a part of the 'through away' world we live in. Tool makers don't want you to have a tool for years and years,.... they'll go out of business if they made the perfect battery powered tool, wouldn't they?
One of the worst things that has been done to Ni Cad powered tools is to keep them on charge,.. use them 'till flat then charge them fully. Too late for these shown here.

Fake. When batteries go bad, they are done. You have a pack of some good and some bad. Only way to fix is replace the bad ones or replace all. Its cheaper to buy aftermarket complete pack for 15 dallors.
I'm guessing you should get back to sewing instead.

I use an ATI Radeon cooler to fully discharge it, after the drill stops working. I already experienced improvement. Charging time is 5h fir all cheap devices.

  • @barryrudge1576
    @barryrudge1576 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes the battery has charged but when placed in the drill and pressing the trigger it shows very little charge and I doubt it will run for more than 5 minutes. Better to just suck it up and buy replacement batteries. For DIY purposes you can buy very cheap Chinese copies but wouldn't recommend them for professional trade use.

This is so common with these $200.00 batteries. Solution, go to Home Depot, buy a new one, take the recipe and the old one back and return it. Sounds shady, yes, but to spend that kind of money on a battery that doesn't last a year? Screw'em.

before you ruin your wifes new scissors you may try this to restore batt to take a charge 2 jumper clip leads i connect these lesds temp. to my golf (36 volts ) plus to plus just tap the dead batt. plus and minus may see tiny sparks no problem 2-3 clicks shuld do it now place batt on charger it should work now if repeat click it alittle longer no adverse effects and save buying a batt.

what happens to batteries over time small hair like shorts grow in your batteries . a surge of power or quick pulses burn the .... shorts out and your battery works again some times its too far gone . A great way to exstend battery life is to run them dead or very close to it ,then when charged put on drill and spin for 3 seconds then put the charged battery into storage spot. leaving on charger is not good for the battery .tried to exsplain it simple terms . thanks dog

I still have the charger to for the battery of speaking of which I could continue to charge the battery with after trying this technique
