Weird asf thing to have a reveal about bro lol ngl
He's either 19 or 32 years old
That “scrapey” sound is how all metal producers tell the bands to play chugs in the studio, it makes the attack more punchy
Yes I too like the pick attack to have a sound. Its like the spacer between the notes.
I just ended up doing it naturally and I feel alot of other people who play metal especially after learning pinch harmonics and tougher down picking have had the same experience, I recommend it to all Chuggers!
Chug is life
I love the “scrape” sound. 🤷♂️. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
@@ohvizn6119 Real
Me holding the pick with a thumb and two fingers pointing downwards for the last 6 years
Bro got the papa hetfield position
Papa Het's pencil grip is so much more stable for me when playing downpick-heavy songs.
Bro I was doing the same for last 3 years too
Bro you've possibly held yourself back on years worth of progress just from the way you held your pick 😂
@@yak_frost1196 is it really that bad?
the scrapey sound is metal af tho
On bass it sounds absolutely amazing too!
Everyone has told me that that is a thing I should get rid of.
@@tktspeed1433 Grrr but I guess there could be too much too. Some is good though.
It is if you can control it. What he’s trying to say is that it’s harder for beginners or someone that’s self taught and maybe doesn’t have their style or skill set down. Guitar is weird because almost everyone has a bad habit or something they do that’s technically wrong… but that’s also something that can make you different and set you apart. I mean Jimi Hendrix playing a left handed guitar right handed?! Just try holding your guitar that way and try playing anything… weird right? But that’s also the only way he can play. I could be wrong, but seriously doubt he could play right handed guitar. But learning the fundamentals in the beginning definitely helps with correcting bad habits. I always drop the pick (1 year playing) and I hold the pick the first way… trying to use the second way in the video but I always default back to the first way for some reason?? Driving me nutz
I had no idea Christian Bale was so passionate about pick etiquette.
HAHAHAHAHAHAH
Second method all the way🤘
And here I am with a perpetual crack nail on my index finger just so I always have a pick at the ready 💀
True guitarist
I love the pronunciation of "fookin" in the beginning. Not that I've never heard it this way but this one specifically is just perfect
I never considered how much the pick is showing when I encountered picking problems and assumed it was due to the type of movement I used.
When I used the minimum area possible it felt way comfier and I somehow got more speed with it.
I also use the first method but with the minimum area showing. Found it more comfortable than the second method.
Thank you!
Are you able to chug good like that ? Like triplet chuggs on 2-3 strings at once
I've learned how to play with no pick, just holding my fingers as if I'm holding a pick and using my pointer finger as the pick, I think doing that gives better clarity when you actually use a pick
Play for a few 8hr days your fingernail gets pretty sore and scraped off. Takes forever to heal back. It's good to know so you aren't the guy that wrecks a song if you drop your pick, but if you don't want a pick grow the thumb callous
@@SvMobyduck when i commented this i actually barely had ay experience using picks, bought a pack of picks about a month ago and realized its a lot harder to use a pick then i thought, atleast for technical playing
Me holding it with three fingers:🗿🗿🗿
I actually learn a lot from you because you make information easy to understand are descriptive and make it hilarious so the info sticks! Thanks for the lesson's!
Instructions unclear, I'm missing 3 fingers.
I always used the first method and thought it was wrong so i forced myself to use the second. Now i see this video and it makes me wanna go back to my old ways
I've been doing this by accident all along
I think everyone does and should hold their pick differently. No right or wrong. Find what works for YOU
I am for sure the second type here though I have major knuckle damage from squeezing too hard. Ive learned to loosen up. And use the middle finger to hold the pick also, my index needs the support
Shotty like ah melody
A combination of different techniques for different situations is ideal imo
I didn’t realize until now but I subconsciously switch between the two while I’m playing lol
i thought the whole pick was supposed to be out and i’ve taught myself to hold it wrong 💀, this explains why i always hit the wrong strings
A guitar teacher who ain't too old for a good hiding! 😂
It worked for me 🎉🎉
I have literally never seen that first method in my entire life
Jimi Hendrix played like this
Nothing beats the attack of a jazz pick
I really appreciate this fookin tutorial
I hold wit 3 fingers my dude
I'm a Metalhead and I've been playing keyboard for 15 years and electric guitar for 5 years. I'm still beginner on electric guitar, but I made a few good songs.
I've been playing guitar for like 8 years now and I can't play with a pick to save my life, I'll be half way through a song, feel the pick slipping out of my hand so I'll just chuck it across the room and keep playing
Jazz III’s the only way to go!
Thanks Brandon I was just thinking about this yesterday
I hold my pick with three fingers and on the phatt side of the pick.
After 4 years my guitar teacher looked at my hand and was like wait what the hell way are you holding the pick but now I can’t do it any other way 😢
And thats why I use fingerpicking
Damn it Brandon you are slicker than owl shit . So much awesome advice. Thank you very much
It's faster with less drag if you use the round side.
I’ve been having half the fookin pick sticking out this whole time 💀
I use my index and middle finger. I also only ever use downpicking
Me whose fingers can't do the first position without angling my thumb diagonally.
i prefer #2,,,control comes with practice,,another pro neglected with 2 is you are less likely to lose your pick
Also you got to remember that if you didn't have electricity you couldn't make music!!!!
Cover the Tosin Abasi method of holding the pick next.
"then, you take your thumb and you bend it back in the opposite direction to the point where it breaks"
My thumbs are also hyperflexible like his but I can't play for shit the way he holds the pick. Guess he's also not satisfied, I remember him talking about trying to learn to pick differently a few years back
I do the Hetfield hold, I still got good control but also can go very fast
My beautiful friend, you don’t seem PISSED OFF, still very handsome 💖
bro this whole time I was playing it the second way, but instead of my 3rd nuckle I was using my second I thought that was the way to do it bro😭
That’s interesting , I’ve always felt I held the pick wrong , first method .. I just could never sustain the second method .
Great.. for strumming what is a good pick holding style.
I've been holding the pick in the metal fashion? Nice
Well, I hold it with 3 fingers like papa Het
Or the Third Way turn the pick sideways and choke up on it
You can hold it upside down too
I hade to check how i fooking hold the pic. It the first example, the second way feels very akward.
How to hold a fookin pick. What i heard: how to hold the FUCKIN pick
What about for alternate picking
Here I've been using my thumb and middle finger for years.
i do a hybrid i guess
Thanks a lot. But I realized that my grip (with the first method, pr something cöose to it) makes my kndex finger hitting the string befote playing it with the pick. I even sometimes see a small irritation at the base of my index finger nail when I play for a longer time, mainly because my index touches the strings first when I play a downstrokes, and for strumming (which is not a problem for strummimg I guess). I‘ve noticee that when playing arpeggio this problem really makes me missing string! Is there anyway to fix this, wirthout losing control and a good feeling of the pick (because although this happens I feel pretty comfortable with my pick grip)? Should I let more of the picj sticking out or less angles while playing ? Thanks a lot fir your help, anyone !
You didn’t say Fooking leave!!!!
I was given 5 fingers in my right hand. I’m using all of them.
My picking technique is a wierd combo of both of those, I hold the pick like the first demonstration, but I bend my thumb backwards at a 90 degree angle
So you run into any issues doing that ?
I use the 2nd method for everything lol, rock, metal, jazz, even acoustic lol
I can't grow my pointer finger nail. Gets burned from the strings.
I got a third method. Throw the pick out
He almost played hail to the king
my issue with picking is accuracy
Not me using two fingers and a thumb for more speed, control, tone and chugginess
I had an accident and i broke my right hand fingers tendons so i grab it as i can HAHAHAHAH
Broooo is it like magic?? I do the second method and able to do the faster part of the song I'm learning on thankss😂
Second method actually sounds better on a nylon string
I mean, just hold it however you feel is best
Once you master catching the pick mid solo with your second finger and thumb while keeping timing and hitting the almost missed note with the edge of your thumb you will know you have acquired the most joyful skill in all of playing guitar... ..not dropping your pick.
Thumb and middle finger for 40 years
I flip the pick around and use the fat side idk why but I’ve just always done in like that and it’s comfortable for me
Not gonna lie, started to use the second method and I feel like I can solo faster.
No wonder a telecaster player says the scrape is annoying.
explain
What about holding it with 3 fingers? I do so
how do you not get caught on the string holding like this?
See you anchoring with your pinky why are there so many other guitars against anchoring with your pinky?
What about how hetfield uses it?
I notice you test your pinky on the pick guard, have you noticed if that has affected your playing? I do it too and im trying to break the habit
Hey I know you didn’t ask for my advice lol but I would say don’t try to break the habit just yet. Right hand technique is not exclusive to those 2 methods. There are plenty of people that hold the pick different than the two methods that he describes. He’s not wrong, there’s just more than 2 methods. I would look at Michael Angelo Batio or Joel Omans (they’re the 2 I could think of off the top of my head) for the anchoring technique. They’re both utterly fantastic and they both anchor. Just remember that as long as it doesn’t hurt, play the guitar however you want.
I mean Jimmy Page used to Anchor, it’s useful to try and break from it so you have both abilities but aint no shame in anchoring
@@ShadowD2C I don't think using Page's guitar playing as an example is a good idea. His picking is sloppy and weak
@@AffixedEvil He is one of the Most accomplished guitar players in existence, If you can achieve that maybe your guitar advice would be held in higher regard...
I do it aswell and i am never limited by it.
It doesnt really matter that much though i dont think. Look at marty friedman. He has like the worst possible picking posture and is great.
Also, just checked and i guess i keep my pinky fully extended on the low e. As i move through the a and d string my whole hand just moves lower while still keeping pinky extended. and then on the g b and high e my pinky slowly curls. And during sweep picking my pinky is just kind of there for show. It has no pressure at all on the pickguard during sweeps.
So im pretty sure my anchoring is a little different than the video but either way u should be fine. Just pick how u want and with time u will get better.
Jazz 3's are the only pick. if you know, you know.
Meanwhile I'm doing like option F where I have my thumb roughly in line with the strings but my first and second fingers gripping the pick with the fingertips almost like I'm fretting a note. I'm not saying it's superior in any way, it's just the way I've been doing for something like 10-15 years and I'm very much stuck in it now.
I don't even know how I hold my pick🤔
Grab it and check?
Ok I hold it the first way.
How many hold their picks with three fingers like Poland and Hetfield ?
y’all ever played a chord? you’re going to have an interesting time playing a chord with that.
🤓: Its actually called a plectrum
What about the james hetfield style?
lol I do it completely different than that😂
what about pick technique for chords?
My pick gets slippery all the time so i cant sustain a constant grip when im playing fast
Any advices?
Was that his world?
Im doing 3 finger method :)
I alwqys played the second methos because it felt nwtural lol
guessing 22
HOW TO FOOKING HOLD THE PICK😡
well there are 2 main…☺️
I think both of these assume you're not strumming? Got to choke up less and go into "disaster mode" for that, right?
2 ways? Everyone holds a pick a little bit different.
Bro your lik 26 or early 30. I’m cool knowing that
imagine using a pick
Has anyone tried playing Omega in either guitar or bass with the first method? Should be fun
James Hetfield's three finger technique?
